IMO there won't be an appeal.
The main point in opposition to the permit was the potential impact of future mines. That's not a reasonable objection, higher court will rule same.
Second point is even activities just in this permit will impact reindeer herding.
There's no evidence for this that the court hasn't reviewed. They came to the judgment the two can coexist. Without new info, higher court likely to have same opinion.
The reason I don't think they'll appeal, is that a judgment from a higher court sets a stronger precedent for any future activities. So they want to make bloody well sure they win it. And they just don't have that strong a case yet.
Is it worth them taking that risk for our first little mine? I don't think so. If they lose, then we go into out next permit application with a much stronger position. A lost appeal at a higher court just reinforces the position that these activities can coexist and their objections are not valid. Our next permit will be for an operation multiple times bigger than this. And remember, it's the future mines that apparently they have a problem with.
So they may well let this go ahead, and then when the next application comes around scream 'oh woe is me! Life with just this small mine has been so hard!'. But the problem is they'd then have to actually show evidence it's had a severe impact on them. And you know what? If they can actually show evidence then sure fair enough. But as of now they have nothing and so I don't think they'll play the appeal card just yet.
It looks like they're going to try it either way. But it is their right.
"Hello!
Just in time for the Easter celebration, on April 5, 2023, the Land and Environmental Court in Umeå granted permission to Talga AB to mine 120,000 tons of graphite per year in Nunasvaara södra, a permission that extends until 2070. A rather long period of time.
What kind of environment will the area around Nunasvaara, including Rovasuando
(island in the river to the south => google mapps Rovasuando), be for our children who may want to stay in the cabins, be in nature, enjoy fishing, berry picking etc. just like we are allowed to do and have been allowed to do so far? What will the environment be like in the area in 2070 if the judgment becomes law?
It is worrying that MMD grants Talga's application so easily, at the same time that Talga submitted applications for exploration permits for connecting ore bodies in Nunasvaara north and Niska which further affect areas by the Vittangiälven.
Talga themselves are completely open that the deposits are connected. Test drilling shows a link between Niska north and south - Talgagroup SV. Not so long ago, another letter steamed into the mailbox, now it is not only Talga that shows interest in minerals in the same area, but also
Northern x minerals, which has been granted an exploration permit for deposits that basically cover the entire Rovasuando area and more besides (It is found that look at Bergstaten's website Prospecting in Sweden (sgu.se) select the map and zoom in on the area around
Torneälven.
It is the combined effects that must be tested for the environmentally hazardous activities, so there should therefore be a requirement that the application cover the entire planned quarrying. At least for the respective operators, even if negative environmental effects occur regardless of who causes them. Could it be that if Talga gets a permit for Nunasvaara Södra, their future permit applications and also the future applications of other stakeholders will be facilitated?
We who are directly affected by our properties being destroyed by the environment around us being polluted by vibrations, noise and dust, we who want to be able to stay in nature without it being colored by soot, we who want to be able to fish in the river without worrying us for what the fish contains, we can come together and make our voices heard.
Those of you who are interested in doing just this, by joining together and filing an appeal, are welcome to read the judgment that was announced on Wednesday, it is attached to this email.
It is our democratic right to appeal, however, it is important that we can make relevant points of view on the judgment in order for the appeal to be taken up for examination at the Land and Environment Cour
t of Appeal, which requires leave to appeal in order to take up a case. Trial permit - The Land and Environmental Court of Appeal at Svea Court of Appeal

The verdict can be appealed until April 26.
If you are interested in being involved and in the form of an affected property owner within the area of influence being involved and appealing, you are welcome to respond with your name, the property you represent and what you believe is wrong with the judgment. We would like to have this information by April 20 at the latest in order to prepare an appeal.

Email the information to this email,
gruvinformation@gmail.com and we will make sure to compile and send in the appeal. You will receive a copy of the appeal before it is submitted.
Please spread this information to others who may be affected but do not have access to an email address.
It is fine to comment with your email address in the comment field and you will receive the verdict and the information.

Note that this person mixes two processes! Someone has already contacted her, but he has to do with this Northern x and lives there.
This does not sound very promising to me.) Let it be...
I think that no human being lives on or near the mine of Talga. But the opponent talks about how directly they are affected. The nearest house is down at the river. And
@beserk is that the home of these Sami there is always talk of village although probably an area is meant (in Kiruna ~70Km away)?
