Hi Community,
I want to pose an open question whether we (as a group) want the UPDATES thread. We had this for some time and my original motivation to install it was to have a place where we can collect information on Talga. Where we can go back in time and find all the relevant and important stuff. Where we can send new people and say: look at this thread, it has all the important information and none of the chatter around it. Its a dense piece of information.
Now, this is at odds with most peoples intuition in public forums. It creates unnecessary rules to follow, like cross quoting and following a certain forum hygiene. If I read the responds by @curiousmagpie correctly, it seems to me that he doesnt want to put up with the rules around an update thread. It seems he was very annoyed by my request to take the discussion to the discussion thread. I might be wrong, but we probably have lost him as a member. I definitely dont want people leaving due to this kind of stuff.
An added complication is, that none of us has admin capabilities. If we had admin powers, we would be able to simply move the posts over to to the Discussion thread, and continue there without having a fuzz about it. However, we cant do that, everyone has to be diligent. I can totally see this being annoying, especially if everyone is asked individually to move an ongoing discussion in the wrong thread.
So the question is, do we want an updates thread with its associated rules or do we not want one? I personally find it useful but I also dont want to annoy people. I want people to be welcomed here and I want to encourage discussion and disagreement. Its super important that we dont live in a bubble where dissenting opinions are discouraged. Its important to have people disagree on stuff and not be mad about it. Talk it out. So here we are. What is your opinion on it?
