I remember them when they were affiliated with challenger … What’s the LinkedIn decorum for reaching out to one of their PMs, we have 2 mutual friends. Might have to test the waters.
Were you thinking of Ellerston Capital? They were also on the TLG register with their Chairman being linked to Packer (Consolidated Press Holdings) and with links to Challenger.

Challenger used to be the Responsible entity for kinetic’s fund , the emerging companies fund , and they also had a distribution and administrative agreement with kinetic capital partners which was terminated many years ago …

First time posting, but long time reader of this thread.

I can confirm what Gero said was correct, the Kinetic fund has recently been closed and has been liquidting assets. I work in the asset consulting industry in Australia so have contacts with a number of fund managers as part of my day to day job. This is the response from Kinetic I got regarding the status of the business. In subsequent emails Richard told me that the fund was recently closed and was being wound down in November which certainly explains much of the recent price action. If they haven't already liquidated then hopefully not too much more to go.

Keep up the good work team, hopefully better days round the corner.

OK so we know Kinetic were managers of a number of funds of which I guess the Talga shares were in one fund.

How do we know that all these shares are going via the ASX ? Surely a large parcel like that would command at least some premium over the ASX price. You try and create a parcel of 17M shares and without the SP rise substantially

Perhaps the shorters have front run the SP in an expectation of it all being dumped on the ASX ?

Could we soon end up with a new Top 10 shareholder instead ?

All speculation of course

Holy F**k Batman we might suddenly end up with a Substantial Shareholder Notice.............LOL

Not related to the above also note that none of the principals at Kinetic have changed their Linkedin profiles yet their last listed corporate phone number just rings out immediately and their website is screwed

It's all just a bit weird

While Kinetic could in theory package up the shares and attempt a block trade with other small cap managers, as a forced seller I doubt there is any way they could achieve a premium for it. There's just no incentive for another fund manager to buy the shares from Kinetic when it is well known that they will be a seller on market which is likely to push the price down. I speak to a number of Australian Small Cap managers through my work and TLG doesn't appear in many portfolios at the moment, I suspect when we get certainty around permits you may start to see this change.

Merry Xmas legends!

Thank you all for continuing to share your research and DD... especially you @cosors! I'm very grateful!

So no present from Santa but it must be imminent. In the interim, yesterday's ANN re new appointments got me excited.

It's fair to assume these appointments wouldn't be made till such time as there was concrete progress and a basis to support such.

If I put my rose coloured glasses on perhaps we have:

Eva to spearhead lobbying, PR and negotiations for a "massive" (MT's word not mine) expansion of Vittangi

Dr Motta promoted as now she'll have a new division under her watch being the leasing of our IP and tech to others

Mr Kruse to look after "strategic alliance/s". Perhaps we're close to a deal as otherwise no need for him now, nor to refer to the role as has been done. Business development could've sufficed. Strategic alliance ? Business, political, both... 🤔

So the cannons appear loaded. I'd say the behind the scenes "transformational year" has happened, here's hoping 2024 becomes such for us shareholders and the subsequent sp.

Lastly, if you start thinking about TLG whilst having your ear chewed by the in-laws at Xmas it's totally normal 😁

I would also like to thank everyone here and wish you a Merry Christmas and I hope you and your families are doing well. That is the most important thing.
Talga will find its way. I'll be a bit distracted these days and maybe I'll get back to you from the off.

Here is Polestar:
"Talga is a leader in the development and production of durable materials for battery electrodes. Through innovative technology and vertical integration of our wholly-owned graphite resources in Sweden, Talga provides electric car manufacturers with access to a safe, low-emission supply chain."

It is relatively warm here.
It's raining non-stop and rivers are bursting their banks (?). Right now it's drizzling rain with storm here where I am.
So yes, let's have an icy Christmas! I'll gladly accept your wish 💘🇭🇲 I'm a child of winter and it's my birthday at the turn of the year.)

We had yesterday night first hail, then a single lightning bolt with quite strong thunder, followed by snowfall which turned to smooch by today morning. Other than that, thx, I would have loved to be stuck in 50cm snow, but it was all rain the last few days .. happy summery Xmas down under!

I don't know. But I don't think it's important. Talga is entering a new phase and I think it's perfectly normal for the staff to change here and there. I just posted it because I couldn't find anything else.
I think we just have to be patient.
Regards from vacation...

Do any of you know to what extent the conventional production of anode material from synthetic graphite causes waste water / environmental damage?
These hurdles must also be overcome by Chinese companies if larger anode factories are to be built in Scandinavia.

"EU Approves $986 Million German State Aid For Northvolt’s Battery Plant, Matching US Subsidies

The European Commission gave the green light to a $986 million German measure aimed at bolstering Swedish sodium-ion battery-batteries company Northvolt's initiative to build a battery production plant for electric vehicles in the country.

The sum sways Northvolt's decision towards Europe; absent this aid, the plant would have been situated in the United States, where comparable support was offered under the Inflation Reduction Act.

"This $986 million German measure is the first individual aid being approved to prevent an investment from being diverted away from Europe, under the new possibility offered by the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework since March 2023,” said Margrethe Vestager, executive vice-president of the European Commission, responsible for competition policy.

Matching aid, said Vestager, is a European Union’s ‘new feature’ to allow European companies to find an equivalent sum of investment or aid in Europe, that they can receive in other jurisdictions.

Germany's proposed measure is designated to assist Northvolt in establishing a facility in the city of Heide, with an annual capacity of 60 GWh, able to produce batteries for approximately 800,000 to 1 million electric vehicles annually.

This investment aligns with the EU’s efforts to advance towards a net-zero economy, echoing the principles of the Green Deal Industrial Plan. “This is an important step for the electrification of transport in Europe while preserving the level playing field in the Single Market," said Vestager

Furthermore, the plant contructions alignes with the plans of the EU-block to produce more environmentally friendly and responsible batteries. The Swedish battery maker’ commercial sodium-ion battery cells are free from lithium, nickel, cobalt and graphite, limiting the outsourcing of raw materials. With the revision of the Batteries and Waste Batteries Regulation, it will be a prerequisite for commercialisations that batteries will be made with raw materials sourced respecting both environmental and human rights.

Plant’s operations are slated to start in 2026, with full production capacity expected by 2029."

"Quantum leap for electromobilityCan't burn:
Chinese launch new e-car with sodium battery
January 03, 2024
1704803568109.png

The new JAC Yiwei 3 with sodium-ion battery.

Electric cars with sodium-ion batteries are now being mass-produced in China for the first time. According to media reports, the Chinese e-car brand Yiwei has been producing a small electric car with a sodium-ion battery since the end of December, which is due to be delivered to the first customers this month.

It could be a quantum leap for electromobility: The new small electric car from Chinese brand Yiwei is now the first electric car with a sodium-ion battery to be mass-produced. Yiwei is a brand of the Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corporation (JAC), which also has a joint venture with Volkswagen.

The Yiwei EV 3 is a compact electric vehicle whose cylindrical sodium-ion battery is manufactured by the Beijing-based company HiNa Battery, reports the industry portal CarNewsChina. Yiwei is still a young electric car brand that was only launched by JAC in 2023. The JAC parent company, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Holdings (JAG), is 50 percent state-owned and 50 percent owned by the Volkswagen Group. The German automotive giant had already acquired the stake in 2020. However, according to Spiegel Online, Volkswagen was not involved in the development of the EV 3.

Sodium batteries are cheaper, safer and non-flammable
The Yiwei 3 emerged from the Sehol E10X prototype, which was also equipped with a sodium-ion battery. To date, most electric cars have lithium-ion batteries, but lithium is expensive and is sometimes mined under critical conditions. Sodium is a much cheaper raw material that is available in large quantities - for example in the form of common salt (sodium chloride). Sodium-ion batteries are also considered safer and are said to be non-flammable. However, they also have a lower energy density and are heavier than lithium-ion batteries.

The range of the Sehol E10X prototype is said to be 252 kilometers with the sodium-ion battery. The battery has a capacity of 25 kilowatt hours and can be charged from ten to 80 percent in 20 minutes. CarNewsChina gives the energy density as 120 watt hours per kilogram on a pack basis and 140 watt hours per kilogram on a cell basis. It is not yet known how expensive the Yiwei EV 3 will be.

At the end of 2023, Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt announced that it had achieved a major success in the development of sodium-ion batteries. The energy storage system is more sustainable than batteries that use the usual chemicals made from nickel, manganese and cobalt or iron phosphate and does not require lithium or graphite. According to Tagesschau (German main news media), the Fraunhofer Institute sees great opportunities in the field of sodium batteries: "Thanks to their unique properties, a sodium-ion battery can press the reset button, so to speak, for the conventional way of thinking and using batteries. With sodium batteries, we can suddenly make use of a domestic raw material base that is independent of strategic, even critical imports," explains Michael Stelter, researcher at Fraunhofer IKTS and Director at the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry CEEC at Friedrich Schiller University (FSU) in Jena."

I'm not posting this because I assume that this is the solution. I suspect it's just another approach. Why else would China invest over 2.5B in graphite anode factories. It's not my topic. Maybe one of you could comment on whether this is a competition or an alternative (because of the lack of range).

The government's climate action plan - all the way
to net zero

...
A secure supply of metals and minerals The final report (SOU 2022:56) states that Sweden has good geological potential for both industrial minerals and critical raw materials. Some examples are graphite and lithium, which are needed for battery production, rare earth metals for the manufacture of permanent magnets and tungsten for special alloys and cemented carbide production.

Mining and mineral policy

"Climate Action Plan: Swedish mining and minerals industry ready to accelerate with the right conditions
2023-12-21
The Government today presented its climate action plan. The plan contains 70 proposals to achieve both national and global climate goals and Sweden's commitments to the EU. Svemin particularly welcomes the announcement of more efficient authorisation processes and the importance of increased self-sufficiency in metals and minerals.

The Swedish mining and mineral industry plays a central role in the ongoing climate transition. Significant investments in new environmental technology and fossil-free industrial processes promote growth throughout Sweden. Svemin has consistently pointed out the need to improve the efficiency and predictability of the authorisation processes. These changes are fundamental to enable the green transition and to strengthen the competitiveness of the mining industry.

- It is gratifying that the Government emphasises that the entire value chain needed to manage the climate transition, where sustainable metals and minerals are necessary building blocks. The mining and minerals industry is crucial to Sweden's and the EU's competitiveness, the ability to adapt and our security. With its rich bedrock, Sweden has a fantastic opportunity to reduce the EU's dependence on undemocratic states, increase self-sufficiency and produce sustainable raw materials," says Maria Sunér, CEO of Svemin.

Maria continues:
- "The mining and minerals industry accounts for 8% of Sweden's total exports, and thus contributes to the Swedish economy and welfare. With the potential Sweden has, this can increase in the future. We therefore welcome the Government's ambitions to create favourable conditions for the mining and minerals industry to develop in Sweden, with a focus on more efficient and clear permit processes and a secure electricity supply. The plan contains many good ambitions for the Swedish mining and minerals industry, but these must also be translated into action.

Managing the climate transition requires a significant increase in electricity production. By 2030, the basic industry's electricity needs are expected to increase by more than 72 TWh, which corresponds to about half of Sweden's total electricity use today.

- It is ultimately access to reliable electricity and competitive electricity costs that will be crucial if we are to succeed with the transition and investments in Sweden. If our industry is not profitable, we cannot contribute to the climate transition either. The losers will then be both Sweden as a country and the climate as the Swedish mining and minerals industry is a world leader in terms of both climate footprint and environmental performance," says Joakim Aspeheim, responsible for energy and climate issues at Svemin.

With the right conditions, Sweden has a good starting position to take a major global responsibility for the climate transition by utilising the opportunities of the Swedish mining industry.

- We can conclude that the Swedish mining and mineral industry is ready to accelerate the transition work if the right conditions are given and if the profitability is available. The common thread in the climate action plan is that Sweden should manage the transition to climate neutrality without losing competitiveness, which is of course absolutely central to the Swedish mining and minerals industry," says Joakim Aspeheim."
