Among other things Talga supports the cultural association in Kiruna. Now it's time to take the Talga bus to Kiruna:

Free bus from the villages to Kultura Kiruna with Talga AB

1699863116989.png

Kultura Kiruna is the event that puts the municipality on the cultural map. In order for as many people as possible to be able to experience Kultura Kiruna, Talga AB offers a bus trip from the villages and back on Saturday 25 November.

Kiruna is one of the world's largest municipalities in terms of area. Kiruna is much more than just "the city". Talga AB believes that the entire municipality should come alive and be able to take part in homely cultural experiences. That's why they offer a bus ride that takes you all the way from Saivomuotka (and eight other stops) to the festivities in the new city center. Hop on the bus for free from the village stops, sit back, and enjoy everything well in place.

The journey back from Kiruna city centre starts the same day at 18:00 with disembarkation at the same stops.

Hope to see you there!

Unfortunately it got lost or I had forgotten to post it so I'll make up for it. It was our host's birthday. Of course Talga was there too:

"The Luleå facility celebrate 60 years of research

31 October, 2023

The Swerim day in Luleå was a bright spot that provided fuel. Together we celebrated 60 years of research in Luleå.

Our own business area managers Mikael Larsson and Daniel Palo gave the audience the historical picture.

With history as a starting point, the afternoon continued at a high pace with flash lighting of several current research projects where industry collaborates with Swerim. An example was Pär Ljungkvist, SSAB who came more or less directly from the test halls to the stage in Clarion's large conference room. He indicated that it was difficult to leave the research trials because they were so exciting, but still gave a colorful status report.

Another who testified about how decisive Swerim was in being able to take the step out into industrial production was Stefan Sandberg, Talga Group. We received a quick "pitch" of the state of the anode factory, which is scheduled to be operational in 2025.

The afternoon ended with a panel discussion with Annika Roos (Jernkontoret), Roger Hahne (LKAB), Per-Emil Back (Gestamp HardTech) and our own Pontus Sjögren, where those present could agree that it is research that creates development!"

I was unaware of this collaboration with GlobalTrust. We apparently obtain some kind of data from satellites from them. I don't know what exactly is behind it.

For the archive. Hitachi knows Talga and Talga is involved with composites and with polymers through the Rudolstadt research and many other things.

Saab and Hitachi Energy join Collab Composite to attract composite companies and startups from all over Europe to Piteå for development work in fiber composites.

For Saab, it is interesting to develop composites that are used, among other things, in the production of aircraft such as the Gripen*.

"Twin cities, Luleå and Boden – water and sewage in the green transition

28 november 2023

The green transition. New industries as well as existing companies that create completely new innovations in Luleå. How do water and sewage come in and why is it important to work together? At LTU's conference "Circular water management – a paradigm shift" in Luleå, Petra Viklund, head of water and sewage at Lumire and Magnus Bäckström, water and sewage strategist in the municipality of Boden who start the interesting list of speakers. The conference, which is held every five years, is about gathering expertise from different countries and professions and will, among other things, deal with innovative sewage systems, AI in the industry and gender equality in water and sewage. The paradigm shift? Yes, it's about challenges, climate and environmental problems, but also possible solutions.

"We love the Luleå River!", Magnus Bäckström exclaims at the beginning and tells the interested audience more about the river where 500 cubic meters of water flows per second. Only the Göta River has a larger flow.
"Thanks in part to the river, there are logistics solutions that in the long run give us advantages and the opportunity to connect with Sweden and Europe," says Petra Viklund and continues:
"With the strategic ports* we have, it gives us good conditions for exports in the future, regardless of whether companies establish themselves in Boden or Luleå," says Petra Viklund, who in the presentation mentions Talga, SSAB, LKAB, Fertiberia and Uniper as well as H2 Green Steel.
New rail corridors and a new port area are underway. In simple terms, the purpose of the green transition can be said to be to reduce Sweden's total carbon dioxide emissions by ten percent. If you look at the population's starting points, why you should want to live and thrive in a place, Petra Viklund and Magnus Bäckström bring up the ideas of the so-called "15-minute city", which is about being able to manage large parts of your everyday life within a 15-minute time radius, where the proximity between Luleå and Boden is seen as positive. But collaboration between the public sector, such as municipalities and municipal companies, as well as companies and the business community, is also important," says Magnus Bäckström, explaining:
"Technical water, which means water that does not reach drinking water quality but which can be important for our industries, is under development.
It will require a part of Luleå municipality and Boden municipality as it is about being able to find collaboration for water and sewage solutions that can be of benefit to both cities. Perhaps this can result in a so-called grid, a system that links together water solutions for societal functions that need to exist. This may include redundancy – security – for hospitals and other parts that are important to society. A lot is at the planning stage, a direction that is in line with housing construction and development as well as business start-ups that are taking place. When future infrastructure investments take place; within hydrogen or railway corridors, Magnus Bäckström emphasizes the following:
"A safe, secure and robust network is important, and we therefore want to be involved in the calculations at an early stage.
Large investments, what does it mean for the so-called water and sewage collective, which stands for the water and sewage collective, and to pay the water and sewage tariff, which is an abbreviation for the water and sewage tariff? This is largely about getting a growing population that together shares the costs, even if you distinguish between different types of investments, purpose, type of water and its development:
"We're ready," says Magnus Bäckström, and Petra Viklund agrees, but also concludes:
"This also includes challenging ourselves, our own organisations and finding completely new solutions."

The global situation permeates the meeting place for the Swedish mining industry

Issues relating to mineral supply and the special role – and responsibility – of the mining nation of Sweden are highly topical. Both for the real climate transition and in Europe's quest for increased self-sufficiency. This is reflected in Svemin's Autumn Meeting 23 - the mining and mineral industry's major meeting place. The media is welcome.

The EU's recently finalised Critical Raw Materials Act permeates Wednesday's mining conference, which this year also focuses on the geostrategically changed situation. Leading representatives of the Swedish mining and minerals cluster will participate. The full program can be found here *."

Talga AB is further prospecting
"A very exciting project"

666dd7c3-b06d-01f1-f206-72757246aacd.jpg
The graphite project outside Vittangi is one of the world's best with a content of 23.8 percent graphite. It is also the largest in Europe according to the accepted JORC standard. As the demand for graphite continues to rise, Talga AB is investigating the deposit more closely.

At Nunasvaara Södra outside Vittangi, a successful geophysical survey was recently carried out using an electromagnetic method that can locate ore bodies up to 1000 meters deep. The method allows electromagnetic waves to reach the bedrock, which reacts differently depending on the content and is particularly suitable for use with graphite.
- We have previously focused on shallower levels of around 200 meters as they proved to be very rich in graphite ore. The ore bodies in Nunasvaara Södra continue at depth, which makes it a very exciting project, says Tom Kearney, geologist at Talga AB.

The results of the investigations are currently being processed and will serve as a basis for various alternatives in the future, for example underground mining with possible advantages in reduced waste and lower soil impact. Tom Kearney explains that as low an environmental impact as possible is the highest priority for the company.
- If we can grow in the same area where we already have a mine, we can, for example, plan early for underground mining and then less land needs to be claimed compared to open pit mining in the area. The Vittangi project therefore has the highest priority, but due to the increasing demand, we are also prospecting in an area north of the project.

The area (Vittangi no. 6 in the map above) is located approximately nine kilometers from Nunasvaara Södra and is being investigated with an existing prospecting permit. An older geophysical survey from Sweden's Geological Survey, SGU, indicates deposits in this area as well.
- We have carried out new geophysical measurements and seen that there is good potential to find large mineralizations even if it is not exactly the same type of graphite as in the existing ones. The deposit is interesting to explore further to understand any future potential in the area. But today we are focused on Nunasvaara, says Tom Kearney.

Facts, graphite
The EU has classified graphite as a critical and strategic mineral. This is partly due to the heavy dependence on imports from Asia, partly due to the great need, and then mainly for battery anodes for lithium-based car batteries. The initial production rate in Talga AB's battery anode factory in Luleå is 19,500 tons, while Europe's estimated battery capacity in 2030 needs 1,450,000 tons of anodes.

New proud sponsor of Luleå Ridklubb

b062a1b7-a6d3-96e7-6f85-c9239bdbe2a7.jpg
In our endeavor to benefit and collaborate with the local community, Talga AB has stepped in as a new sponsor of the long-standing Luleå Riding Club on Hertsön.
The association was already established in 1949 and works to ensure that as many people as possible develop and exercise their interest in equestrian sports. The more experienced and older help the younger. Luleå Ridklubb also offers para-riding for the disabled.
- Children and youth sports are a focus area in our sponsorship work. Children and young people need rich free time and community. Luleå Ridklubb is a good example of an association that works for that, says Liz Asplund, operations coordinator at Talga AB.

How might the establishment affect society?

f455669b-cd1d-0ca5-bc40-0b4a0b4e3011.jpg
Talga AB has engaged the consulting company Ramboll to carry out a social impact assessment of how the establishment at Nunasvaara may affect society.

An important basis for the assessment will be dialogues and interviews with a broad target group that may be affected by the establishment in various ways. The purpose of the talks is also to find out how Talga AB could contribute to positive social development in Vittangi and the surrounding area. Klara Denckert is a senior consultant in social sustainability at Ramboll with many years of experience in similar issues.

What is the origin of this mission?
- There are significantly higher demands on companies today than there were just a few years ago. In the past, it may have been more common to only look after the interests of shareholders, but that time is over, today much more is required to get financing for industrial projects. The financiers place high demands on how the companies act, mainly from the perspectives of social impact and environmental impact.

How can it benefit Talga AB?
- Talga AB wants to lead the way for positive and sustainable social development, both in terms of the climate and society. This will be an opportunity to raise and analyze how the company can compensate for any negative effects that the establishment could bring. An example could be a risk of fly-in-fly-out and how would Talga AB then be able to compensate for that effect. The opportunities to make a positive contribution can, for example, be to create youth jobs. These are just two examples and our work should provide the basis for the company to work on these types of issues.

How do you ensure that you get a good base?
- We make contacts widely, with different target groups, but will also try to get the opportunity to talk to people in and around Vittangi. For example, we participate in the Open House in Folkets Hus on December 7, which we see as a good opportunity to capture different points of view. But it is clearly a challenge in itself to reach such a broad target group of stakeholders. If you want, you are very welcome to contact us so that we can get as representative a picture as possible - social.sustainability@ramboll.com.

That is a fantastic article, thank you cosors for finding it! I very much like the prospect of an underground mine without more land allocation. Let's hope my pessimistic view of expansion timelines are sufficiently squished and we can have a meaningful expansion way before 2030. Very excited about the search for ore bodies down to 1km. That has the potential to 5x our indicated resources (or was it 'infered'? I forgot the proper JORC code for that).

The network sustainable construction met today in the town hall in Luleå to highlight current issues in the industry! One of the points was a panel discussion on the need for contractor housing linked to the various industrial investments that are now underway. Lulebo's CEO Erik Öhrling participated together with Emma Själin , Talga , Annika Ohls , Luleå Municipality , Magnus Carlborg Police and David Sundström , Lindbäcks bygg! A very good and important conversation with various questions about this, here both challenges and possible solutions were raised! The need for collaboration became clear!"

Continued collaboration crucial for a sustainable European battery value chain

Batteries are a central and crucial part of electrification and the development of fossil-free energy systems. In order for Sweden to be able to contribute to a sustainable European value chain for batteries, a common situational picture to follow the development and continued collaboration between actors in the battery sector is crucial.

There are both opportunities and challenges in the development of Sweden's parts of a sustainable European battery value chain. Sweden has several areas of strength that give us great opportunities to become a leading battery nation. The Swedish Energy Agency, the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency report on the government assignment "Develop collaboration for Sweden's parts of a sustainable European battery value chain".
"Sweden urgently needs to gear up its efforts in academia and industry to meet the challenges of sustainability, skills and material supply. Actors working in the battery sector also need to increase their collaboration and joint action in order for Sweden to succeed in contributing to a sustainable value chain," says Carolina Liljenstolpe, economist at the Geological Survey of Sweden.
Within the framework of the assignment, the authorities have developed a method for producing joint situation reports that follow developments in the battery area.
"Based on the needs we three agencies have identified, we would like the Government to decide on a new assignment so that the Swedish Energy Agency can continue to collaborate and produce and publish situation descriptions," continues Carolina Liljenstolpe.
Read the final report for the government assignment Develop collaboration for Sweden's parts of a sustainable European battery value chain*

About the assignment

The Swedish Energy Agency was commissioned by the government through the 2023 appropriation directions to develop collaboration for Sweden's parts of a sustainable European battery value chain together with the Geological Survey of Sweden and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The assignment was for the authorities to continue to develop a broad dialogue and collaboration on battery-related conditions together with relevant actors from the entire battery value chain. It was also part of the assignment that the authorities should propose appropriate indicators for the development of a sustainable battery value chain and proposals for a plan for monitoring and evaluating the development.

Just a snippet. Either way, it will go on no matter what some people say about green colonialism or question the supposedly 'green' transition in general and prefer to stick with the status quo. At least that's how I interpret the first words of this article behind a PW.

"A piece of the puzzle is in place

1701935387286.png

Collaboration is key in Luleå Industrial Park, as well as for other parts of the green new industrialization.

Editorial December 7, 2023 08:08

The green new industrialisation in northern Sweden continues to roll on, regardless of what economics professor Magnus Henrekson and other backward-looking people think about the development. On Wednesday, another piece of the puzzle fell into place when Vattenfall, Luleå Energi and Luleå Municipality broke ground to build the first stage of the power lines...
...
Talga , Fertiberia, Reemap and other companies in the Luleå industrial park with electricity. It is also pleasing that the process has progressed relatively quickly."

Man I hate it when people use the term 'green colonialism' to describe this stuff.
Look at the shit that has happened to local populations under ACTUAL colonialsim, even currently ongoing in the middle east, and how much people have suffered. It's downright insulting that these local populations fighting wind turbines and mines compare THEIR struggles with those of peoples that were actually violently colonised. Kind of disgraceful really. They're being told they don't have exclusive rights to the land, that they have to share it with the rest of the population that makes up the country they live in, and they claim it's colonisation and by association they suffer all the negative effects that has casued throughout history....

What do my bored eyes discover here?
You know who performed the groundbreaking ceremony in Lulea, the Swedish Minister of Labor. The one who later sharply attacked his local colleagues from Kiruna for their anti-attitude. And from the same party - here it comes:

"Ex-minister goes to mining company

LULEÅ. Yet another former politician goes to industry. The former Minister of Labour Eva Nordmark (S) will take her place on the board of the mining company Talga.
Published : 7 December 2023

1701961062236.png

Eva Nordmark (S).

Talga will start mining graphite in a mine in Vittangi and is in the process of building a factory in Luleå, where battery anodes will be manufactured. The entire project, mine and factory, is costed at SEK 6 billion.

Former Minister of Labour Eva Nordmark is now taking a seat on Talga's board. Nordmark also has a background as chairman of the Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees (TCO) (union leader).

"In a short period of time, Talga has grown to become one of Europe's perhaps most important companies for the green transition. Building an integrated, European value chain for battery anodes is as important as it is exciting and I look forward to contributing with my experience on that journey," says Eva Nordmark in a press release.

She is the latest in a line of former Social Democratic ministers who have been attracted to the mining and steel industry. The former Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson, is an advisor to SSAB and Sven-Erik Bucht, former Minister for Rural Affairs, is a member of the board of the mining company Copperstone.

The country's largest mining company, LKAB, has former Prime Minister Göran Persson as chairman. He is also joined on the board by the former Minister of Finance, Moderate Anders Borg."
