He looks like the old guy you'd run into in Bali or Ibiza that went over on a holiday in their 20's and had the such a good time they never came back, not realising they are now seen as sad and not party animals. Definitely doesn't look like a businessman.

Friday 12th August 2022 12:26 AM

medium_2022-08-12-d49111222d.jpg

The Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, received in audience, this Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Primature, the Visa delegation headed by its Chairman and CEO, Alfred Kelly. It was in the presence of the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Digital, the Governor of the Central Bank of Congo, and some members of the Prime Minister’s office.

Alfred Kelly came to inform the Head of Government of the project of his company which intends to embark on the digitization of economic activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The opportunities are enormous in view of the discussions we are having regarding the possibility of digitizing economic activity. The Prime Minister was enthusiastic and he only sees opportunities in writing. We will start by working on the regulator, the Government to digitize their activities. For us, it is important to have the Government become a catalyst for all digitization in a country. We have skills that we will make available. Then, on the private side, it is It’s really about creating an ecosystem of buyers and companies to facilitate the digitalization of payment in the country. We have already started, insofar as we have created our structure with teams that are on site. The office that we opened is the 11thth on the continent. And, it’s an indication of our willingness to be near and contribute to the mission to digitize the ecosystem,” said Alfred Kelly.

A graduate in computer and information science, Mr. Kelly held executive positions in several companies before joining Visa, where he has been CEO since 1st December 2016. He is a passionate leader and philanthropist who wants to put his expertise at the disposal of the DRC.

DRC: Manono lithium exploitation at the heart of exchanges between CENCO and the various stakeholders

August 12, 2022

CENCo
The Episcopal Commission for Natural Resources of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CERN-CENCO) organized, this Thursday, August 11, 2022, a conference under the theme: "How can lithium from Manono in the DRC contribute to the energy transition? ? Multi-stakeholder reflection on the sidelines of the pre-COP27”.
Initiated under the cover of the Ecclesial Network of the Congo Basin Forest (REBAC), this conference brought together several stakeholders, including partner companies such as COMINIERE, AVZ and other shareholders.
According to the Secretary General of CENCO, Monsignor Shole, the objective of this conference is " to have the elements of advocacy because the CERN-CENCO commission was created after the observation that we are sitting on our natural resources but we live in poverty ”.

Indeed, several speakers have in turn exploited the different sub-themes of the said conference.

Referring to the role of lithium in the energy transition, the authorized mining engineer, Raphaël Ngoy, said that the DRC has a lot of responsibilities by being at the center of the issues concerning the exploitation of lithium.
To this end, he asks the DRC to ensure that what happens to cobalt cannot happen to lithium.
For Raphaël Ngoy, the Congolese Government should observe better management of lithium to help the country leave the underdevelopment zone to become a developed community.

For his part, Doux Nkulu, a member of civil society in Manono, underlined the expectations of the local population.

"The population of Manono wants to see this lithium finally serve as an energy transition for the world and it is interesting to know that it is still the DRC which has the largest deposit in the world ", he said.
And to add: “ We are already talking about electric cars or even planes, but nothing in the DRC. Would we still be those who supply the raw materials to the whole world without ourselves being able to think of being able to switch from fossil energy to green energy to enable the DRC to avoid the shock of climate change? The most important thing with this lithium is the environmental and social impact and the social responsibility of the companies that are responsible for the exploitation of this mineral. »
For the Executive Secretary of CERN and Coordinator of REBAC-RDC, Henri Muhiya Musabate, the idea of this conference is to make the public understand the importance of this unexploited mineral. However, it is a strategic mineral for the energy transition
in addition to cobalt.

At the end of the conference, the results were achieved because the participants understood the issues around lithium issues. What remains to be done now is to accelerate the process for lithium mining to begin for the benefit of different stakeholders starting with the local community, the country, the partner companies and the whole world. he blinked .

Yep, it's all wearing a bit thin. If we didn't have a whole lot of hard earned in the game it wouldn't be worth reading about. It all seemed easy when everyone had doubled their coin or more.

Still nothing on the DRC battery factory front 🙁

1660307020206.png

BERLIN -- Mercedes-Benz will be the first automaker to receive cells from a new 7.34 billion euro ($7.6 billion) battery factory that China's CATL plans to build in Hungary.

CATL said construction of the 100 gigawatt-hour plant will start this year in Debrecen, Hungary, close to auto plants of customers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Stellantis and Volkswagen Group.

The factory will enable the supplier "to better cope with the battery demands of the European market ... and help accelerate e-mobility and energy transition in Europe," CATL said in a statement on Friday.

The plant will be CATL's second battery factory in Europe after one in eastern Germany.

In a separate statement, Mercedes said CATL's new plant marked the next milestone toward the automaker's goal of reaching battery production capacity of more than 200 gigawatt hours at eight global production sites by the end of the decade.

The plant will supply battery cells for production sites in Germany and Hungary, Mercedes said.

"With CATL we have a technology leader as our partner to provide us -- as the first and biggest customer of the new plant's initial capacity -- with top-notch CO2-neutral battery cells for our next-generation EVs in Europe," Mercedes management board member Markus Schaefer said.

CATL is the world's biggest EV battery maker. Tesla is among its customers.

The Hungary investment, which has no timeline, follows a flurry of other announcements from the company on new battery sites, including a 14 billion yuan ($2 billion) investment in east China's Shandong province and a 13 billion yuan battery project in Fujian

CATL has also been considering an investment of up to $5 billion in either Mexico or the U.S.

Ok Wombat you are starting to become a total knob now! My info is we should definitely here some positive news this coming week. Maybe I should never have relayed that to this site or any other. If it doesn't come this week it's definitely no fault of management, it's all just part of the slow African system!
As far as I am aware all boxes have been ticked!
If there is no good news this week, well then stick it up your arse, and you won't hear anything from me again! I'm pretty confident that I have a hell of alot more riding on this than you and I'm 100% confident that it will happen sooner than later.
Up yours Wombat, and over & out!

Hates a beer
I've lost count of the number of times I've read here, on HC or in private groups from someone claiming they've heard something concrete about a stock from a reliable source, and they can't say more, yet we have to trust them that it's the truth - and not one of them have eventuated. I can't see the point in creating an environment like we have here where we share great research and learnings, yet there's always someone who wants to play the "I know a secret but I'm not telling" game as if they are holding knowledge that makes them feel important. As I said, I'm yet to see a single example of someone who's tried that on who has actually been correct, in this stock or any other.
