Big news from Berlin!
Last week, we invited media to the German capital to participate in our “Insight DRIVE PILOT” event and test our latest advanced driver-assistance systems. For me, this subject is very close to my heart because our cutting-edge ADAS systems simply wouldn’t exist without the integration of our sophisticated software.
The big news was that our DRIVE PILOT SAE Level 3 conditionally automated driving system will soon be the world’s fastest Level 3 system because it can follow a vehicle on the motorway at speeds up to 95 km/h (up from 60 km/h) when certain conditions are met. The technology combines our advanced software architecture with state-of-the-art hardware, such as cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors, and a LiDAR, and it’s currently being re-certified by Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Accreditation is expected for use on German motorways by the end of this year. During conditionally automated driving, DRIVE PILOT takes control, which means the driver can use the time more efficiently, to make calls, surf the internet or even stream a movie.
The event also signalled the launch of our Level 2+ Automatic Lane Change (ALC) in Europe and it presented an opportunity for journalists to test their parking skills using our Active Parking Assist technology.
Added together, these exercises prove once again that Mercedes-Benz is setting industry standards for autonomous driving.

Luminar had earlier posted about developing a slimmed down version when discussing their Mercedes deal, so the hairline bump is pretty impressive.
The higher the lidar is placed, the further it can see.
Luminar also provide software with their lidar, but I didn't find anything to exclude Akida/TENNs.

To reduce drag and noise, the front of the cover glass would need to follow the incline of the windscreen, and, to minimise optical deflection/prismatic effect, the inner side of the glass should be parallel with the outer surface.

Greens Highly Overrepresented in Journalist Survey; AfD Not Mentioned
The 2024 long-term study “Journalism and Democracy” reveals that 41 percent of the 525 journalists surveyed in Germany identify with the Greens. The second most common response was “No party,” with 23 percent. While support for the SPD (16 percent) and FDP (3 percent) is relatively consistent with national polls, the Greens and the Left (6 percent) are significantly overrepresented among journalists. In contrast, support for the CDU (8 percent) and BSW (1 percent) is considerably lower in this survey. The AfD does not appear in the study at all.

It‘s getting annoying for me too. I really shouldn’t have to feel the need to defend myself over and over again. There are more important things to focus on in life. So perhaps it’s time for me to sign out for a little while.
