Attacked by the Catholic Church, which believes that democracy has declined in the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Tshisekedi attacked the bishops, calling on them to exercise restraint.

Felix Tshisekedi describes it as a "dangerous drift". According to the Congolese president, the Catholic Church has taken a wrong turn. And as the presidential election approaches, the role of the religious institution is to appease rather than add fuel to the fire.

However, the Congolese bishops have decided to undermine the Congolese president. The Congolese, said members of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO), must “wake up” from their “slumber” to demand credible elections.

But above all, the bishops believe that we are witnessing, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), "a deplorable setback characterized by the violent repression of opposition demonstrations, the restriction of the freedom of movement of opponents, attempts discriminatory bills, the instrumentalization of justice and arbitrary arrests”.

Something to piss off Felix Tshisekedi. Invited on Sunday to speak during the celebration of the 25 years of episcopal life of the Bishop of Mbujimayi, the president launched into a veritable pamphlet against the Church. "The Congolese State and the Catholic Church have an obligation to collaborate and walk together," he warned. And this is an opportunity for me to sound the alarm apparently to a certain drift observed within the Catholic Church. A drift that I would describe as dangerous, especially in this election year.

While the President of the Republic, from Greater Kasai, drew the attention of the bishops to the behavior to adopt during this delicate period dominated by the organization of elections and the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Father Donatien Nshole responded to him on Monday June 26 through a media intervention.

“When he was an opponent, he benefited from the same services from the Church.

Today, the Church remains in the same position.

The same bishops who congratulated him yesterday are telling him today that there is a step backwards,” curtly retorted Monsignor Donatien Nshole, who believes that “there is no drift within the Catholic Church.

The National Episcopal Conference of Congo has, through its Secretary General, reassured that there is no drift of the Catholic Church and that, he underlined, the various messages of the bishops are part of the social doctrine of the Catholic Church.

Donatien N'shole also says he understands that the head of state in Mbuji-Mayi reacted with anger.

“I believe that the Head of State did not read our last message. He was satisfied with what was reported to him certainly by people who do not like the church”.

The latter held to fix, for the umpteenth time, that the Catholic Church has no candidate.

Rather, she takes a stand alongside the weak.

“The church has always been on the side of the weak.

There was a moment when the situation was hot, it was almost every other day that I was in Limete late at night to see old Étienne Tshisekedi to exchange, and at that moment he was in a weak position compared to to a power that wanted to impose everything.

This interview with Bishop Donatien N'shole follows the speech given by the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi in Mbuji-Mayi, where the latter denounced the drift within the Catholic Church.

He strongly criticized the position of some Catholic bishops who, according to him, the behavior tends to divide the population in this election year.

Beyond CENCO's message: blind fanaticism must be banished

In its message from the Plenary Assembly of June 23 in Lubumbashi, CENCO challenges and returns to its usual refrain, increasingly taken into account from a certain opposition: the recomposition of the CENI against the background of other major consequences.

The Catholic Bishops ask, in their own way, the people to wake up to the upcoming elections.

Recognizing the capacity of the population to renew confidence in the leaders of the institutions, the Bishops insisted on the choice of competent leaders and of good probity.

For them, the doors must be closed to opportunists, tribalists, nepotists and others thirsty for power for their own interests.

The precautions were recalled, not to leave the polling stations before the posting of the results.

The security of persons and their property well indicated for the Government.

The CENI is required, by the CENCO, to work well for the transparency of the voting and counting operations by respecting the legal provisions.

Just like the correct follow-up of all the innovations introduced in the electoral law, next to the flawless preparation of the witnesses followed by their deployment by the political parties and groupings.

A curious mix

Worthy recommendations for the interest of credible desired elections, but CENCO returns to claims generally taken up in chorus by a fringe of the opposition.

Semi-condemning the aggravation of insecurity in the east by the M23 under the Rwandan umbrella, the Bishops seem to disapprove under the arguments of the Aggressors.

The insecurity caused by militias and a certain political formation they identify seems piecemeal, ignoring other wrongdoings.

Such, during so-called peaceful demonstrations.

The interpretation of some political actors holding unreported weapons are not listed.

On the contrary, we see them displayed with certain political actors who have left a bad impression in relation to their management of public affairs.

Blind fanaticism, wherever it comes from, must be repelled and banished, giving free rein to awareness, stripped of all misunderstanding.

The Government, organizing power of the elections, is called upon to take into consideration the advice in the direction of the success of the electoral process.

The reduction of the standard of living of the institutions is essential like fair justice and the fight against impunity, even if this time it has not been listed.

The triumphalism of each other is not to be encouraged, in the name of national cohesion and living together.

Introspection on the part of our dear princes of the Catholic Church also remains extremely important to promote harmony between the population that they are crying out for.

I think Felix trying to get CATH and CMOC to offer something avz will accept to walk away, or avz will get the license with CATH onboard and a battery plant must be build and spod processed locally (CATH would loathe to do this but needs the supply) IMO

Don't be silly, no one wants the icsid. It's just a lever they're pulling as the final back up plan to close it out. Deal incoming, if they don't get a deal then they will go to ICSID but reality is, no one wants that

Even the relatively simple MMCS vs Cominiere ICC decision is approaching the maximum allowable time period, which is six months (excluding exceptional circumstances).

Can you clairfy what you mean by no ICSID cases in last 10 years?

The negotiation table would make for good entertainment. AVZ walks in and quietly places the IGF report in the centre of the table and says "what's your offer?" If the offer is not in the ballpark Nigel quietly slides a large document towards the centre of the table with "ICSID Brief of Evidence" emblazoned on the cover! Nigel says "10 billion or licence to exploit, which is it?

i just backed up with research, only one concluded case against the DRC in the past 10 years which they lost, they've rarely been taken to ICSID and with the amount of illegal shit they do i'd say that evidences how rare/serious this action is
