The Government encouraged to do everything possible for economic growth of 8% in 2023
Despite the difficult economic context marked in particular by the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the aggression suffered by the Democratic Republic of Congo by its neighbor Rwanda, the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, encouraged the Government to spare no effort to achieve economic growth of 8% in 2023 as projected by the staff of the International Monetary Fund.
The President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, made this known during the ninetieth meeting of the Council of Ministers, held on Friday March 10, 2022.
"Faced with the favorable outlook expected in 2023, the President of the Republic encouraged the Government to spare no effort to support economic recovery, strengthen the resilience of our economy, preserve the purchasing power of Congolese by upgrading our national currency against foreign currencies, particularly the US dollar.
This, in order to materialize the economic growth projected by the services of the International Monetary Fund at 8%, despite the context of aggression of the country by Rwanda, and the persistence of the repercussions of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which continue to disrupt African and global supply chains and drive up food prices, said Congolese Government Spokesman Patrick Muyaya.
According to the Congolese President, the strategies proposed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), which moreover align with the actions of the Congolese Government, should help the country achieve this ambition.
In its report, the AfDB suggests the continuation of the accelerated implementation of structural reforms aimed at strengthening the industrialization of the private sector supported by the Government in key sectors, such as: agriculture and agro-industry, smart energy transitions in the face of climate degradation, the development of natural resource value chains, in particular those of minerals as means of accelerating the economic growth of the DRC.
