Site handover for Battery Factory was yesterday together with SEZ for region for battery manufacture. (Not sure about status of Manono Sez)

Summit on industrialization and economic diversification to be held in Niamey, Niger, from 20 to 25 November 2022 focusing on Battery project

Only mining licence for Dathcom is dragging the chain, Julien has posted 3to 4 articles on project overnight.

CATL is assumed to be involved in this as well, but no discussion on non-African technical input yet

It has to be close for licence to be issued or their will simply be a decree to get it done by Felix if not already stated by him

The Top 10 EV battery manufacturers in 2022

The top 10 EV battery manufacturers in 2022

The global electric vehicle battery market is expected to grow from $17 billion to more than $95 billion between 2019 and 2028.
blank.gif

With increasing demand to decarbonize the transportation sector, companies producing the batteries that power EVs have seen substantial momentum.

blank.gif
Chinese dominance

Despite efforts from the United States and Europe to increase the domestic production of batteries, the market is still dominated by Asian suppliers.

The top 10 producers are all Asian companies.

Currently, Chinese companies make up 56% of the EV battery market, followed by Korean companies (26%) and Japanese manufacturers (10%).

The leading battery supplier, CATL, expanded its market share from 32% in 2021 to 34% in 2022.

One-third
of the world’s EV batteries come from the Chinese company.

CATL provides lithium-ion batteries to Tesla, Peugeot, Hyundai, Honda, BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo.

Despite facing strict scrutiny after EV battery-fire recalls in the United States, LG Energy Solution remains the second-biggest battery manufacturer.

In 2021, the South Korean supplier agreed to reimburse General Motors $1.9 billion to cover the 143,000 Chevy Bolt EVs recalled due to fire risks from faulty batteries.

BYD took the third spot from Panasonic as it nearly doubled its market share over the last year.

The Warren Buffett-backed company is the world’s third-largest automaker by market cap, but it also produces batteries sold in markets around the world.

Recent sales figures point to BYD overtaking LG Energy Solution in market share the coming months or years.

The age of battery power

Electric vehicles are here to stay, while internal combustion engine vehicles are set to fade away in the coming decades.

Recently, General Motors announced that it aims to stop selling ICE vehicles by 2035, while Audi plans to stop producing such models by 2033.

Besides EVs, battery technology is essential for the energy transition, providing storage capacity for intermittent solar and wind generation.

As battery makers work to supply the EV transition’s increasing demand and improve energy density in their products, we can expect more interesting developments within this industry.

The DRC will be able to house the first electric battery manufacturing plant in Africa

1665019622722.png

The government of the DRC and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) will accelerate the operationalization of the cross-border Special Economic Zone where the first manufacturing plant for electric battery precursors will be installed.

This commitment was made this Tuesday, October 4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the 2nd Pan-African Mining Forum.

Participants at this forum shared their experiences on the Pan-African Electric Battery Industry Project, piloted by the Democratic Republic of Congo.

After this pan-African forum in Addis Ababa, the operationalization of the cross-border Special Economic Zone where the first factory for the manufacture of electric battery precursors will be installed will be accelerated by the Congolese government and the ECA with its various technical and financial partners. indicated Augy Bolanda, project manager of the Agency for Special Economic Zones (AZES).

Auguy Bolanda said that the DRC has already made a site available:

"Today, the DRC has already given the site, we are waiting for the minister to discuss with the experts of the ECA to see how to continue with the implementation of this special economic zone".

In addition, during the meeting in Addis Ababa, the DRC shared its experiences on mining. This sharing of experiences was welcomed by ECA.

Professor Jean-Marc Kilolo, an economist with this UN commission, already sees the spearhead role of the DRC in this project:

"The DRC, through this project, is truly a spearhead of industrialization, an industrialization based on natural resources, and in this case, on mines".

This pan-African electric battery industry project piloted by the DRC will be at the heart of the African Union summit on industrialization and economic diversification to be held in Niamey, Niger, from November 20 to 25, 2022.

Fastmarkets says spodumene worth over US$7000/t

Lithium plays continue to hit new highs

Only two days ago Pilbara Minerals crossed the $5 per share barrier for the first time, a dramatic 50,000% increase on its penny stock status when it made the fateful purchase of the Pilgangoora lithium and tantalum project in 2014.

It’s up 9.2% again this morning to a new record of $5.585, continuing the escalating gains the lithium market bellwether has seen in 2022, now up almost 60% year to date.

One of the key triggers was a big pricing update, with Fastmarkets lifting its mid-point spodumene spot price by a massive US$600/t to US$7350/t.

Never seen so much dam talking about what 'we' are going to do, with so little action, in fact actions from their side are actively delaying anything from happening as we are seeing with our expedited ML.
