Just imagine if Blinken visited our EVA plant..!
Yep - all eyes have been on Talga being a beneficiary of Europe’s new CRM & NZI Acts & of course the $300m EIB loan.

Meanwhile, during the Singapore Rho Motion interview, MT spoke about the increasing interest from US based Auto OEMs to undertake qualification of Talga’s anode tech. Provided some of the forecast anode output will be provisioned for Nth America, then Talga can potentially tap into the US IRA funding for European based infrastructure.

This is in addition to I suspect the potential roll out of Talnode Si plants in Nth America, where they have US$100million dollar grants available specifically for Silicon anode tech. No brainer for Talga if testing and customer interest keeps shaping up positively as has been reported to date.

Thanks for sharing this. Valuable intel on the juridical process and likelihood of the municipal council causing an obstruction.
What I like about this info is that a lawyer makes it clear who is in charge.
We already 'know' that the government and the EU is on our side.
We also 'knew' that in case of a negative ruling the government could and still can intervene to impose its will for this project.
We saw Ms Busch talking to MP in Kiruna.
But it is nice to read all this from a lawyer who is specialised in these issues and who consults in these topics.
The confirmation should put some people at ease.

Also, I just read that the CRA seems to have been passed now. This means that natural graphite is not only classified as critical but also as strategic and binding on the Swedish government. Of course I am a layman and this is just my opinion. But I think the matter is clear.

It's hard for me to imagine that as time is certainly very short for all the issues to be discussed against the global background.
But I think we can assume that he will be informed about Talga either through his advisors or from Ebba Bush or from Norrbotten's proud governor who of course could/will promote her location for the Green Transition in a short presentation, and Talga in Lulea is one of two already existing examples.

But in my mind everything is allowed
So Blinken goes after HYBRIT to Swerim in the hall and gets a brief demonstration of Talga's anode production.
That would be awesome because I would finally get what I've been waiting for for so long! It would be in the main news and Germany would no longer be able to ignore the first anode production in Europe and this resource and I would finally be able to read a mention of Talga in a German press 🤣

I am thinking of the internal vote of the Social Demokrats in the Kiruna Parliament with 17/19 in this party and not Kiruna parliament...

You know her already. She is the one of the university of Lulea we are also working with, mean the university and mining group. She is the lawyer who can judge it more than the others, I think too.

""- Decisions must be made close to the citizens, but it is not without openings.

Professor: "May be difficult to stop the mine"

UPDATED TODAY 11:37PUBLISHED TODAY 11:35

Last week, SVT Sápmi reported that the social democrats in Kiruna municipality have decided at a member meeting to oppose the graphite mine in Njunisvárri.
This is what the spokesperson K. N. told SVT Norrbotten at the time.
- We wanted to mark already now, regardless of what the Land and Environmental Court says, we wanted to mark our will in this matter. Regardless of what they say, our opinion on the matter is no different. The environmental issue is extremely important to us who have children and grandchildren in the area. That is one of the main issues, in addition to that, it is also the Sami villages that are losing a great deal of grazing land and migration routes that close off a large area for them along the river valley.

The court has given permission

Last week the Land and Environmental Court announced the verdict in the case where the battery anode company Talga AB applied for an environmental permit in Njunisvárri outside Vittangi in Kiruna municipality. The court grants permission and considers that the company meets the environmental criteria and it is also judged that it is possible to combine the mining operations with the reindeer husbandry. How then does Kiruna municipality's opportunity to stop a mining establishment look if the majority in the municipal council wants it.

It is true that municipal self-government in Sweden is very strong and is established in the constitution, says Maria Pettersson, professor of jurisprudence at Luleå University of Technology, but there are openings.

- Decisions must be made close to the citizens, but it is not without openings. As the Land and Environmental Court has granted permission for the activity and in that permission, the assessment has been made that the area in question is of national interest, both for reindeer husbandry but also for the extraction of valuable substances and if the municipality does not adopt a detailed plan that, for example, promotes this national interests, then the government can step in and instruct the municipality to adopt such a plan and that breaks the municipal planning monopoly. It is one of very, very few opportunities to do so, says Maria Pettersson.

Does the municipality have a greater chance in this case of stopping this mining via the detailed plan?

- I wouldn't think so in the long run, given that this permission has now been announced and the national interests have been determined legally, so I don't think so, answers Maria Pettersson."

Maybe you can understand me why the CRA is/was so important for me.
+ "strategic" 😉

from the video
mine.png

I wonder if this is the border around the mine area, so if this is one of the conditions and a fence is being built here. Then it would have nothing to do with the big boundary and would only be a minimal obstruction. Enough space to pass south and north and even a large part of the area could be grazed.

Do any of you have any insight into the conditions that go with the permit and that PEL (?) was talking about? Or does only Talga have the document. @beserk did you find anything about conditions in your documents from the court?

Hmmm...

As I said the index to the 1000s of individual pages of in the Case File 1573 - 20 is 60 pages long.

The registrar has dutifully received and collected the accumulated 100s of Gigabytes of info that it has recieved from different ecsources.

Actually when you consider this complexity it provides the ULTiMaTe defence against attempts at discreediting the work of the Enviro court. And makes any appeal likely to fail. The Case file is the Rock that Talga is built on like Peter is the Rock the 1st Christians faith and its Church was built on.

The lawyers of the antis must realise this and are out on fishing expeditions.

So they have no choice than to reveal theirchabd with the Ace of Diamonds being the protection offered by the UN charter of Indigenous cultural practises and lands.

I think this will beca short and bumpy ride but we will prevail.

"US Secretary of State Blinken to Northern Sweden for EU Meeting

Commissioners and ministers from the EU and the US will meet in Luleå, Northern Sweden, at the end of May to discuss trade and technology. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will also visit the Northern Swedish city.

The fourth EU-US Trade and Technology Council meeting will be held in Luleå in Northern Sweden at the end of May.
The meeting, which will take place on the 30th-31st of May, will be held as part of Sweden's Presidency of the Council of the EU. Sweden took over the presidency in January 2023.
The Trade and Technology Council was launched in June 2021 and is the main forum for political coordination between the US and the EU on important global trade, economic, and technological issues. Meetings have previously been held in Pittsburg, Paris, and Washington D.C.

The green shift in Lulelå

"I can proudly announce that the Trade and Technology Council's fourth meeting will be held in Luleå. The Trade and Technology Council is in many ways a forum where we discuss how to face the challenges of implementing the green and digital shift. Northern Sweden – and Luleå in particular – is the perfect place to show how Sweden is handling many of these challenges, says Sweden's Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell, in a press release.
As HNN has previously reported, several places in Northern Sweden are undergoing an enormous industrial shift, in which fossil-free production and electrification are in focus. This entail major investments in the production of green steel, mineral extraction, logistics, wind power, and batteries.
Norrbotten is way ahead in the green shift that will be the focus of the meeting, states the Norrbotten County Administrative Board in a press release.
"The EU and the US's work to facilitate trade is important for the entire world, but for a region such as Norrbotten with its great export, it is of particular importance, says Lotta Finstorp, Norrbotten County Governor.

The Trade and Technology Council will be led by the EU Commission Executive Vice Presidents Margrethe Vestager and Valdis Dombrovskis, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
The Swedish government will be represented by Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell, MFA Tobias Billstr'om, and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry, Ebba Busch.
The priorities for the presidency were presented by PM Ulf Kristersson during a Riksdag speech in December 2022.
Under Sweden's leadership of the council's work, the priorities will include security, competitiveness, the green shift, as well as democratic values and the rule of law."

But where is the high level EU-US meeting going to take place? There used to be a conference ctr at Luleå airport but it shut down due to Covid so the alternatives IMO are;

1) Piteå havsbad, 50 km south of Luleå or

2)The TREE HOTEL in Harads, 88 km upstream the Luleå river...

Because Sweden wants to surprise their guests during its EU presidency and show off the North I think the latter. And for the EU big wigs and Secretary Blinken to be flown in by helicopter. A 15 min flight over beautiful scenery along the Lule river passing over the Facebook server halls an hydropower dams...

Do you think they first announce we are doing this in Lulea give the lollipop and then they take it away again?
But I've also thought about where the high and mighty will sleep. It's two days I think and the group will be big. They can't accommodate everyone. But it also seems strange to me that it's about green transition and trade and then they all fly back and forth for the overnight stay. And security level will be high. Maybe you're right after all?
Incredible location at all!

Exactly. I don’t think many of us question what the outcome would be if this got bogged down in courts, all the way up to the SC. But there wouldn’t be a good way of dressing up a year long delay. So it’s good to know a Swedish planning lawyer doesn’t think any appeals would have legs.

But I’m still willing away the next week nonetheless!

And I find it ironic or sarcastic that the SVT Sami delegation will discuss climate change and guarantee to keep quiet about the fact that the project they want to prevent already saves as much CO² in the smallest expansion stage as the footprint of almost 3.3% of the total population of Sweden. Climate protection is just an empty phrase and just a modern way to adorn oneself with it.

And their problems are luxury problems compared to other indigenous people who will also speak there. They can only sell it if they keep quiet about what it's really about. But it doesn't matter because there will probably be many hundreds there and they all have a lot to report and other suffering is really to be taken seriously than from this group in our matter.

But I think I will take one step back here in this group. I have made my opinion known more than enough and we both read relatively little from the others. I like exchange. Therefore thank you for all your contributions!

Then I take half a step back.
But I also want to leave space for others here. At the very beginning I didn't dare post anything for a long time, almost a year I think, because someone was too dominant. I don't think I'm dominant, but someone could understand my many posts that way. There are some of us here who have never posted up before. It doesn't always have to have content or be about something. Opinions* are perfectly ok for me and besides we still have The Bar which I actually really like especially for waiting until something relevant happens.
*Of course I am of the opinion that senseless downramping or hyping should have no place here as well as posts that contradict the TSE rules or Dreddbot.

@JNRB I would also be very happy about a chart or TA thread for our group. There I can't contribute anything useful but let my thoughts run free. I know our SP is currently influenced by predictable and at the same time absolutely unpredictable things. But the ASX is also a special place and I always like to learn more.

World's First Carbon Import Tax Approved by EU Lawmakers

The European Union’s parliament approved legislation to tax imports based on the greenhouse gases emitted to make them, clearing the final hurdle before the plan becomes law and enshrines climate regulation in the rules of global trade for the first time. Tuesday’s vote caps nearly two years of negotiations aimed at pushing economies around the world to put a price on carbon-dioxide emissions while shielding the EU’s manufacturers from countries that aren’t regulating greenhouse-gas emissions as strictly, or at all, Matthew Dalton reports.

In Australia that would be political suicide for any politician that even advocated something like that.

We do have classes of wealth here of course but this joint was built by those that hate authority telling them what to do (not as bad as the USA though).

Strangely such a "carve out" law advocating for those with yachts or jets would likely come from the Left (these days a leadership made up of or working for public servants, union leaders, captains of industry, lawyers, and every other virtue signaler........the types of people likely to own a yacht and trying to look like they are "saving the planet" but claiming to work for the socially disadvantaged at the same time)

The compulsory nature of our voting system means you need to confront the entire electorate once every three years and they have looooong memories and will punish those who have "favourites" wanting carve outs in the Law

And you wonder why the Brits wanted Brexit ?
