Nice to see the latest May 2025 ESA publication including Akida in the hardware solutions for future TN and NTN communications. (Terrestrial and Non Terrestrial Networks).

Hi @Stable Genius,

yes, this OHB Hellas project is indeed using Akida.

I did a bit of research on their GIASAAS concept website last October:

The LinkedIn posts you shared earlier today suggest that OHB Hellas has meanwhile had a 3D-printed mock satellite built with Akida inside:

I went to check their website (https://giasaas.eu/) again to see whether Akida would still show up as UAV1 or as a SAT payload now, but this is all I got:

So I guess we’ll have to wait for another week to find out more.

The revised GIASaaS (Global Instant Satellite as a Service, formerly Greek Infrastructure for Satellite as a Service) concept website by OHB Hellas is finally back online - and Akida now no longer shows up as UAV1 (see my post above) but as one of three SATs! 🛰

AKIDA, the envisioned SAT with the AKD1000 PCIe Card onboard, is slated to handle both Object Detection as well as Satellite Detection, while the planned KRIA and CORAL satellites (equipped with a Xilinx KRIA KV260 Vision AI Starter Kit resp. a Google Coral TPU Dev Board) are tasked to handle Vessel Detection, Cloud Detection and Fire Detection (for some reason OHB Hellas removed Flood Detection from the list of applications).

Please note that this is currently a concept website only.

The idea behind GIASaaS as well as mock 3D-printed versions of the yet-to-be-lauched satellites were presented at DEFEA 2025 - Defense Exhibition Athens earlier this month, as @Stable Genius had spotted on LinkedIn:

Is there a country not looking to use us in their space program: NASA, ESA, ANT61, FG x 2, GRAIN.

We already know we’re working with OHB Hellas.

Looks like a little bit of Akida inside this.

Another project getting closer to revenue.

Great research @Frangipani !

Interesting about the task vs satellite processor choices as we know Akida has already proven it’s capable of vessel identification in another project.

Hopefully over time we can increase Akida’s offerings via OHB Hella.

Fantastic news for Akida to be available, more validation in space and a great opportunity!

Agreed - sounds like rob telson circa 2021 lol
And yet people shared every damn thing that Rob liked on LinkedIn thinking it was to do with Brainchip

Akida gets a mention alongside Loihi 2 in this preprint published today titled Dynamic Spine Stabilization Through Mechanically Tuned Constructs and Embedded Biomechanical Feedback Systems, in which the fourteen co-authors (MDs, biologists, engineers and computer scientists from all over the US as well as from the University of Cambridge’s School of Medicine) “comprehensively review translational engineering advancements, particularly through mechanically tunable spinal implants and integrated intelligent sensor systems.”

“(…) BrainChip's Akida neuromorphic processor is another example of hardware designed for efficient edge AI inference [132]. Its event-based processing architecture is well-suited for analyzing the asynchronous data streams from neural or biomechanical sensors [133].”

Smart spinal implants of the future - another Beneficial AI use case, in which neuromorphic technology can contribute to make a real difference in many patients’ lives one day!

The EDGX DPU, based on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX and designed for LEO (Low Earth Orbit) missions, can now be sourced through https://satsearch.co/ - with an optional neuromorphic BrainChip Akida add-on:
