This brand-new Mercedes-Benz job listing for a working student position starting August 1 strengthens my belief that they have yet to make a final decision on a neuromorphic partner, as it mentions “working with new chip technologies” and “deployment on neuromorphic chips” - the use of the plural here strongly suggests to me MB are planning on benchmarking at least two, if not more:

The AI (Artificial Intelligence) Research Team conducts research into current topics relating to artificial intelligence and applies the results to use cases from various specialist areas within the Group. We are researching the application of neuromorphic computing, an emerging technology that draws inspiration from neuroscience and promises particularly fast and energy-efficient machine learning. For this project, we are looking for a working student to support us in building demonstrators and developing novel algorithms.
According to DTE*, Mercedes may have had access to Akida 2 simulation software for up to 2 years. If true, they will be fairly well advanced in their research of applying Akida 2 software in MB.OS.
That said, we have also heard that BRN discontinued tapeout/production of Akida 2 silicon at the behest a potential customer who, we are entitled to suppose, will be developing the silicon. Now I don't recall the date of this alleged news, but it was some time ago. If we assume that the putative silicon-maker is a substantial player with full access to the design and production capabilities, the production of the silicon may be not too far off.
The Qualifications are loaded to the software side, rather than the hardware side, so it is likely that the candidate will be working on the software side (algorithms/demonstrations), but will be working with new chip technologies, so its probably not von Neumann CPU/GPU processors.
So the question is, when will Akida 2 silicon be available?

Not sure if this guy has been mentioned at all but he loves following Brainchip on LinkedIn. I'm not sure if it's anything much to look into as he follows anything neuromorphic, but great to see Sony are well aware of Brainchip:

How does that explain the plural in “deployment on neuromorphic chips”, though?
Sure, they could apparently run TENNs without Akida, eg on Intel’s Loihi instead, but why would they even bother when Akida is said to be the best fit for TENNs anyway?
And while we are at it:
How do you explain away the word potential in “positioning for a potential collaboration with Mercedes” in a former BrainChip intern’s CV (referring to the time period June - August 2023)

or the fact that Mercedes-Benz CTO Markus Schäfer named both BrainChip and Intel as examples for “leading developers” in his post on neuromorphic computing in January 2023, more than a year after MB had told the whole world they had used Akida for making the EQXX’s ‘Hey Mercedes!” voice control five to ten times more efficient than conventional voice control. (Note the comparison did not relate to a competitor’s neuromorphic solution, but to conventional and hence von Neumann processors).
Closing the NDA curtains again after the January 2022 unveiling of Akida as the ultra-low power solution for their concept car’s voice control system would no longer have given Mercedes-Benz an advantage over rival carmakers, so why the secrecy ever since?
In my eyes, the only logical explanation is that the MB engineers in charge are still weighing their options.

Lyes Khacef’s former colleague Andreas Ziegler, who was a research scientist intern at SonyAI Switzerland from November 2023 to March 2024, has verifiably got first-hand experience with AKD1000 - remember that video of a Tübingen University robot playing table tennis? Andreas Ziegler (who is doing a PhD in Robotics and Computer Vision at Uni Tübingen) was most likely the video’s speaker (given his distinct Swiss German accent in English) as well as the accompanying research paper’s first author (published March 15, 2024):

No doubt MB would have tested several potential solutions simultaneously. If a decision has not been made it would have to be very soon.
There would be a long lead time from decision to implementation and inclusion in production models. Possibly 2 years or more.
If MB leave it to long they will risk losing their 1st mover advantage.
Once the Auto industry got wind of the BRN/MB relationship in 2022 its a sure thing other autos made enquiries with BRN.

Isn't Megachips a supplier to Apple, and aren't at least some of their chips manufactured by TSMC?And now you have Nikunj, not only liking but also commenting on Apples news. Could we perhaps be a 2nd tier supplier to apple, ie through openAI? I know it sounds far fetched, but theres no reason our IP can be in the OpenAI product that is being used by Apple. What are your thoughts?
(and yes I have read the Tony Dawe reply, but he is being evasive with his answer, after all Apple did say the AI processing will be done on device)

Some of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute researchers from Berlin who appear to have used Akida in their research, as evidenced by their recent video titled Neuromorphic Wireless Cognition for Connected Intelligence (encouragingly, there has been no denial in the comment section so far), are currently attending the IEEE International Conference on Communications in Denver, where they are presenting their demo video at the German 6G Research and Innovation Cluster booth.

One of their Fraunhofer HHI colleagues was promoting the demo video on LinkedIn earlier today, while at the same time cozying up to Ericsson at the booth opposite them by praising Ericsson’s Head of Research Magnus Frodigh for addressing their common interest in neuromorphic processing and SNNs for 6G in his keynote speech.
After this virtual wave across the aisle, researchers on both sides will surely find the time to have a little chat even closer up, and in the case of Fraunhofer HHI possibly also with others who may have only become aware of the German 6G research delegation’s booth because of Ericsson and Magnus Frodigh getting mentioned in that LinkedIn post.
