BIG NEWS TODAY.

We, at Mercedes-Benz AG, are repositioning our portfolio within our host of strong brands. That means, each Mercedes brand offers the ultimate synergy of #technology and #luxury in its own distinct way.

Our brand is a huge asset, and our finest products generate incredible #desire. So, we have a responsibility to use this to reset our economic equation. If we focus on the top end and make sure our products are truly outstanding, then we expect to be a much more profitable company.

Letโ€™s look in more detail at what recutting and polishing our portfolio means:

โ€ข We have decided to upgrade our entire product range. With the next generation of vehicles, we are also redefining the entry point into the Mercedes-Benz portfolio.

โ€ข The vehicles of our ๐—˜๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—Ÿ๐˜‚๐˜…๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ will be based on the MB.OS software architecture for the first time. They will feature many innovations that stem from the technology programme behind the #VISIONEQXX.

โ€ข As part of this, we are refocusing our portfolio and reducing complexity and we will achieve this with a smaller number of alternatives: Instead of seven, we plan to offer four models in this segment.

โ€ข We also intend to elevate these #nextgeneration cars through added-value features, finishes and technology.

โ€ข And we intend to grow and refine our ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—Ÿ๐˜‚๐˜…๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ with electric and ICE models and variants.

โ€ข At the end of the year, weโ€™ll present our new E-Class, which will hit the market next year. We believe it will refine our Core Luxury segment with fantastic levels of comfort, convenience and digital tech.

โ€ข We are also working to bring innovative new products that will open up new segments. For example, we plan to offer an additional model based on our EVA2 platform designed specifically for the Chinese market. This brand new bodyshell variant is the result of a highly efficient development programme. We believe it will trigger desire in the China market by embodying a sense of status.

โ€ข Beyond this, we are also planning even bolder changes: Within the new Core Luxury product range, we also intend to leverage the desirability and pricing power of our top-end #luxury brands.

โ€ข The very top of our portfolio will be #expanded and enhanced. One really exciting example is our vision of a Concept Mercedes-Maybach SL โ€“ for customers who desire for a sophisticated luxury driving and design experience. And we believe the first fully-electric Maybach, the Maybach EQS SUV, will be the pinnacle of SUV desire. No doubt, we are committed to adapting our top-end portfolio to new, emerging segments.

Watch out for more on that to come!

A big thanks to Ilona Wissenbach and Victoria Waldersee, both from Thomson Reuters, who we had an inspiring discussion with about this next step in our #MercedesBenz history.

Bosch, Continental, ZF: Automotive suppliers are fighting for future business

Bosch-Continental-ZF-Automotive-suppliers-are-fighting-for-future-business.jpg

Stuttgart, Munich, Dusseldorf In the future business of automated driving, German automotive suppliers are at risk of losing important parts of the development. For decades, Bosch, Continental and ZF were the exclusive contacts for car manufacturers when it came to assistance systems such as ABS, ESP or adaptive cruise control. Now tech companies like Nvidia, Qualcomm or Intel are getting involved.
With their chips, they deliver elementary hardware and the associated central software directly to the car manufacturers so that their vehicles can drive independently on the motorway or country road. With Mercedes-Benz, a large car manufacturer has already presented: chips and large parts of the software for automated driving will come from the US company Nvidia from 2024. One searches in vain for software from a supplier.
BMW will also have important software components supplied by the chip manufacturer Qualcomm in the future. Nvidia even provides Jaguar Land Rover with all the hardware and software for automated driving.
This is a turning point for the worldโ€™s largest automotive suppliers. The close relationship between car manufacturers and suppliers, which has been solidified over decades, could change fundamentally within a few years. Bosch, Continental and ZF are in danger of losing their privileged status in the field of automated driving.

The discovery of โ€œcheapโ€ oil in the Middle East certainly was a major setback to EV progress, not to mention the stuff-up it caused for the environment.

The model-T had a huge role to play in the original downfall of the EV also. Cheap almost never equates to best, but people always vote with their wallets.

It has taken over 100 years to get back on the right track IMHO. Iโ€™d love to see a world with absolutely no reliance on oil.

I am positing that if the 1,000 Eyes can identify the vehicle in the Brainchip, Nviso & Nvidia video showing the vehicle in cabin monitoring it might link back to Nviso via ZF making a nice little circle.

My opinion only DYOR

This is a link to ZF website and it is a must open and if you have a little look around you might see a very familiar piece of modern industrial architecture of some familiarity:

still checkimg the in cabin monitoring but in the meantime i did notice a DAF heavy dury vehicle with led me to supplying intelligent drivetrains etc but alao DAF are part of PACCAR which are currently partnered with fedex and autonomous tech company called Aurora. so went slightly of tangent to initial challenge as got intetested.

Thank you for the exciting mission! I just say wow! and am happy to see what ZF has become. I still know them as a full professional in, for example, gearbox construction or drivetrains, and they supply Renault. I'm happy because they turned the lever quickly enough and faced up to the new challenges. Germany lives from engineering companies. Many recognised the drift too late, didn't survive or die soon. ZF seems to be doing everything right. I take a closer look at them!
I also notice that the Renault from the Nviso video belongs to the Stallantis Group.I found in short search that ZF is working with Nvidia. And that ZF offers complete solutions or even modules for autonomous driving. I'm curious about the search. Here in simple forums some already noticed days ago that ZF is on Nviso's page (google zf+brainchip, had cross searched first). So I also recommend looking for ZF and Stellantis. As with VW, they will certainly have a technology brand, here it's Skoda. What proves successful there is then adopted in mass by the other brands, but of course this is not always the case. Finally, I admit that I also clearly wondered why Nviso used this vehicle. At first I thought they used that car to show that it can be implemented in any car. The new link seems perhaps more likely. I'll start looking if it hasn't been found already.
Hi Cosors
You seem the right person to keep tabs on this question.

The EU is mandating in cabin monitoring in vehicles by 2022/2023.

That is great for new vehicles but I suspect at some point they will require it for existing vehicles so retrofitting could come into its own as a business model.

ZF seem to be ideally placed with its network of service centres to retrofit these systems and as you know have an arm already turning fossil fuel busses and emergency vehicles into electric.

They already do in cabin fatigue monitoring in trucks so what it would be useful to know is when and if they commence recruiting for fitting in cabin monitoring systems in passenger vehicles.

Regards
FF
