BRN Discussion Ongoing

May be the reason why Apple is trying to move away from Qualcomm and built their own.

I hope when time comes BRN sales team don't go back foot, and apply the same ruthlessness.
If Qualcomm doesn't get Akida IP, it's their loss, so hopefully our sales team stand the ground.
If we lose Qualcomm as a customer then its very much OUR loss..

The system-on-chips (SoCs) catering to autonomous driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), cockpit and infotainment, vision, radar and lidar, body and chassis control, and other automotive subsystems mandate high performance and power efficiency for complex and demanding safety-critical tasks with differing workloads.
So, at a time when smart compute is quickly making its way to automotive, Arm and Arteris IP have decided to expand their existing automotive partnership to speed up SoC design innovation with a robust alignment of IPs and automation toolset integration. While Arm and Arteris have been long-term partners, the question is, what’s the strategic importance of this tie-up between two IP suppliers? “It’s all about how we are pre-integrating and validating SoC IPs and automation tools,” said Michal Siwinski, chief marketing officer at Arteris IP.

ADVERTISING

Ian Smythe, VP of product marketing at Arm, acknowledged that the automotive industry is at a critical inflection point with demand for autonomy, more capable ADAS, richer driver experiences, and electrification driving the need for more capable SoCs and microcontroller units (MCUs). “The collaboration between Arm and Arteris IP will facilitate integrated and optimized automotive solutions to enable faster time to market.”

The expanded relationship means that automotive designers working around Arm’s Cortex-A, Cortex-R, Cortex-M, and Mali processors as well as Arteris’ FlexNoC and Ncore interconnect IPs and Magillem IP deployment software will have highly optimized design flows. “In the past, you could buy all the design blocks and try to figure out how to integrate them,” said Frank Schirrmeister, VP of Solutions & Business Development.
“This partnership provides the ability to optimize the IP integration from the get-go, resulting in better SoC design productivity.”
An average car now has at least 20 advanced SoCs, Siwinski noted. “Here you have a huge continuum of different types of automotive SoC configurations.” So, a choice of pre-integrated and pre-optimized IPs for high-performance compute and system-on-chip connectivity will make life easier for SoC designers working at semiconductor companies, Tier 1 suppliers, automotive OEMs, and ride-sharing companies.

Hi SG,

The two AI Preprocessors are separate from the Hexagon,

Unfortunately, Qualcomm thinks NNs use MACs:

US2020073636A1 MULTIPLY-ACCUMULATE (MAC) OPERATIONS FOR CONVOLUTIONAL NEURAL NETWORKS

This Qualcomm patent application shows the "split" AI preprocessor configuration:

US2020250545A1 SPLIT NETWORK ACCELERATION ARCHITECTURE

Priorities US201962802150P·2019-02-06; US202016783047A·2020-02-05

1677645776132.png

Even comes with its own built in von Neumann bottleneck:

[0028] FIG. 1 illustrates an example implementation of a system-on-chip (SoC) 100 , which may include a central processing unit (CPU) 102 or multi-core CPUs, in accordance with certain aspects of the present disclosure, such as split network acceleration. Variables (e.g., neural signals and synaptic weights), system parameters associated with a computational device (e.g., neural network with weights), delays, frequency bin information, and task information may be stored in a memory block associated with a neural processing unit (NPU) 108 , in a memory block associated with a CPU 102 , in a memory block associated with a graphics processing unit (GPU) 104 , in a memory block associated with a digital signal processor (DSP) 106 , in a memory block 118 , or may be distributed across multiple blocks. Instructions executed at the CPU 102 may be loaded from a program memory associated with the CPU 102 or may be loaded from a memory block 118 .

1677644935092.png

[0041] FIG. 3 is a block diagram illustrating a neural network acceleration architecture 300 , in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The neural network acceleration architecture 300 includes a first AI inference accelerator (e.g., first AIIA 330 ), a second AI inference accelerator (e.g., second AIIA 340 ), and a host processor 310 . In this configuration, the host processor 310 includes a host runtime block 312 to execute a host application 320 to operate a neural network. In this example, the neural network of the host application 320 exceeds a fixed amount of memory provided by a single AI inference accelerator (AIIA).

[0042] According to this aspect of the present disclosure, the neural network of the host application 320 is split across the first AIIA 330 and the second AIIA 340 . That is, the neural network of the host application 320 is hosted in the first AIIA 330 and the second AIIA 340 . Splitting of the neural network of the host application 320 between the first AIIA 330 and the second AIIA 340 , however, involves routing of intermediate inference request results 308 generated by the first AIIA 330 and/or the second AIIA 340 . In this example, the intermediate inference request results 308 are routed between the first AIIA 330 and the second AIIA 340 independent of the host processor 310 . As should be recognized, the intermediate inference request results 308 are intermediate results to generate an inference request result 306
.

The patent dates back to February 2019.

“For some reason”

One “For some reason” could be to create fake timelines in the minds of retail investors which when not achieved lead to disappointment making the retail investors vulnerable to suggestions that management are incompetent based on trader manipulator, activist short or troll posts filled with fabricated claims to knowledge and expertise that equips them with necessary expertise to judge performance.

A great way is to cite the performance of another company and claim it is directly comparable.

A PROVEN way to carry out this plan is for one person to create multiple accounts and then use those fake personas to confirm their first expressed opinion that management is incompetent.

The recent removal of a long term poster and it’s multiple accounts should make sure that genuine retail do not believe anyone here until they have confirmed every single word by DYOR.

My opinion only DYOR

I've had a few back and forths about this via twitter over the last few days.
Most people cannot see the bigger picture here. This is an attack on Super. Plain and simple.

If it's accepted it makes it acceptable to make further changes and dare I say it lower the cap!

The big bad richman/woman is the reason the Gov has no money and it's easy to play the naive with this msg.

Never forget what Chalmers called super. The Honeypot.
I mentioned a few days ago that the government was running the change to superannuation tax rules up the flag pole despite promises to the contrary.

The present line is that it will only affect 80,000 superannuates however this is in its first year of operation.

Just like stamp duty on real estate in NSW it will not be indexed to adjust for inflation and so over time this number will greatly increase.

In the real world in which we all live someone today commencing work at the age of 20 years will have about 40+ years before they enter retirement. The implications for a ceiling of $3 million over 40 years can be evidenced by if you are an oldie like myself recalling what you paid for your first home about 45 years ago. In our case it was $38,000. It came on the market two or three years ago now and I noticed that the owners were then asking over $900,000.

Some here will not have given much thought to their retirement but the following graph using Monte Carlo calculations suggests that having $2 million in superannuation today and wanting to have an annual pension of $84,000 based on average returns will give you only a 30% chance of your $2 million lasting until your average life expectancy:

Chart showing the probability of $2 million lasting throughout retirement based up different monthly income needs.

There are lots of these tables out there on the web but the reality is the younger you retire the more money you need to have tucked away because while $3 million might seem like a lot now in 40 + years it will be a bag of lollies.

Those retirees who retired last year would have sat down with their accountants or advisers and calculated what they needed to live a comfortable life in retirement based upon the known rules and government promises. Overnight those calculations became meaningless for 80,000 Australians.

Now before you decide that these 80,000 are all fat cats or filthy rich consider this Australia has almost 3 million small business owners providing approximately 97% of all jobs in our economy. Amongst this three million business owners are:

"Medium-scale enterprises are about 56,835 in number (employing about 20 to 199 people),"

Then ask yourself if you were one of these 56,835 medium scale business owners would you want the stress and responsibility this involves if you could not at least retire with a 100% certainty that your superannuation would see you out and give you a life style that made it all worthwhile.

On the above figures to guarantee this and have a good buffer against inflation and tax law changes you would want four or five million dollars in my opinion.

Anyway these changes will not be made until after the next election so you have plenty of time to take advice, do your numbers and complain to your local member if you feel that this proposed change might not be particularly fair or reasonable for you or your loved ones.

My opinion only DYOR

A remarkable thing about these job ads is the expressed willingness to consider informal experience in lieu of formal qualifications:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, or EE; will consider experience in lieu of education

I guess one thing driving this is the fact that the internet makes all knowledge available.

Another thing is that there are lots of "amateur" software programmers without formal qualifications, and programming can be learnt on-line.

Mind you, I would think that an unqualified applicant would need exceptional experience to be considered for some of the BrainChip jobs that have been advertised.
