DRC-USA: Washington welcomes the new contract for the purchase and processing of Germanium

The United States of America, President of the Mineral Security Partnership (MSP) welcomed the new contract for the purchase and processing of Germanium finalized between STL, a subsidiary of Générale des Carrières et des Mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Belgian company Umicore, the ACP learned on Friday May 10, 2024 from a press release.

“As Chair of the Mineral Security Partnership (MSP), the United States of America and its MSP partners welcome the new germanium purchase and processing contract finalized between the STL , a subsidiary of Générale des Carrières et des Mines (Gécamines) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the Belgian company Umicore, which is advancing cooperation in this area,” we read in the Department’s press release.

According to this press release, this collaboration between MSP partners and the private sector is powerful proof of MSP's ability to secure and diversify critical mineral supply chains, which bring economic benefits to local communities and countries like the DRC.

As highlighted by Umicore and Gécamines officials, this agreement will also support sustainable recycling and the circular economy, develop new technical skills and expertise in the DRC, and strengthen the role of Gécamines and the DRC in as an important player in the processing of critical minerals.

This important agreement, reached through close collaboration with the 15 MSP partners, significantly increases the global supply of germanium, which is used in semiconductors, optical cables, solar cells and many other products.

The processed germanium will ultimately strengthen the supply chains of the American, European and Japanese markets.

Until AVZ secure $$$ the DRC will sit back and wait for us to go broke . Stall/delay tactics still in play .
Here’s hoping this 4th order includes awarding of the accumulating penalties for failure to adhere to courts judgments. Locke would throw the money at us if we had that in the back pocket imo

Well now I am confused , 🤷‍♂️
....
The Company’s preference remains to achieve a negotiated resolution of dispute with the DRC State. The Company understands it is expected the DRC Government’s new cabinet will be appointed shortly and is hopeful negotiations with the DRC State can then proceed. Nonetheless, the Company remains steadfast in its resolve to prosecute the ICSID arbitration proceedings to their conclusion if that proves to be necessary.....

.. but, we may well get more of the project % in lieu of....

Even if DRC agrees to pay they won’t have any money sitting in reserves, if they could they will buy more watches and more overseas trips promising and selling investment dreams. They will be looking at their master China to pay us indirectly. And China will only release the money when they are sure Manono is securely in their pocket which DRC may have promised but can’t guarantee at this stage.

yes disappointing we cant get cash near term via penalties but seems the evidence continues to get stronger and the case against comminere/drc continues to build. The longer this goes on drc/comminere are just building a bigger whole for themselves. I fear though it maybe easier for those corrupt politicians to just kick the can down the road and not deal with the situation they've got themselves into, meaning we could be in for the long haul which kind of seems what we're in already. This is a long play unless this new cabinet when it forms actually decides to take the appropriate action which unfortunately just seems implausible based on what we've seen from the drc to date.
