Maybe this is a help for some of you.
I am German and live in Germany and have a German bank account. Through that account I have purchased AVZ shares on the ASX. The shares are not stored with my bank directly but with a partner bank in Australia. In my case it is BNP. Therefore my bank is not able to provide a HIN or SRN number. Without one of the numbers it is not possible to register with Automic online. I contacted Automic and asked how I could register without and provided documentation about my purchases. In addition AVZ request on a regular basis (quartely or at least bi-anually, don’t remember) the personal details of foreign holders, at least namens and adresses. Automic could have verified with AVZ my holding. But then my shares would be registered with me and the bank where they are stored for voting. Poor Miguel from Automic tried for a few days but without HIN or SRN number there is no record of me being a holder. The Partner bank BNP is able to vote on my behalf. They charge a service fee of 500 AUD for it.
If you live up over you should still be able to vote. It is just not as easy as for the down under boys and girls.
I know that I will do it.
