AVZ Discussion 2022

Seems to me that we're just kicking the can down the road to give time for the 'security for minerals' deal to be done which in turn is what Kobold are waiting for 'before the ink dries'. The fat prick is desperate for the court cases not to start and wants to bury this asap

Am I happy about it? i'll get back to you by the 23rd June

'Pursuant to' means in accordance with

So, both AVZ and the DRC have agreed to suspend arbitration for a month in order to facilitate negotiations.

I hope that someone reminds King Felix-the-corrupt that he is in an existential fight, and Manono is his only ticket out of Dodge. If he and his equally-corrupt snakes try to play hard-ball or rig the negotiations, his next negotiations will be with Kabila and M23 in the presidential dining room. They will be less inclined to negotiate.

Cheers

In practical terms, I would say AVZ approached DRC and said "we would be comfortable with adjourning proceedings for a little while to give you time to finalise your security deal with the US, and then resolution of the status of the mining lease can be done quickly after that to enable Kobold to fairly compensate AVZ. If you agree that's what the next steps are, we can go to ICSID together and request the hearing be delayed until a date that is after when you expect all this to be complete".

I already told my wife that because the golden boy, Donald Trump, likes big announcements ... when the DRC and Rwanda peace agreement is announced in the Oval Office in front of the world's media, the deal for Kobold and a mining partner (maybe Rio) to buy the Manano rights from AVZ will be announced simultaneously. Then he will add ... nobody does deals in Africa like me, I am the best deal maker for Africa. And the fortunate thing for AVZ ... he is right, and if not then I will be in big trouble at home.

I read the ICSID announcement like this: the deal is done, including a figure acceptable to everyone bar the shouting (or M23 throwing a spanner in the works). We just need to wait for the announcement.

Why?

First: To have the proceedings suspended to begin again (maybe I've misinterpreted that bit?) on exactly the day after the week everything is supposed to be sorted would take some high level communication / negotiation. You can't just bump an international tribunal hearing to a date of your perfect choosing four weeks out from that date. We've been hearing stories of how it takes years to get a resolution thru ICSID and here we have things moving to perfection within days? For an Aussie minnow? To maintain the perfect scenario of pressure? Yeah, nah. I would not be surprised if someone in the White House has called someone in Paris to make sure the right outcome was achieved.

Two: 88-5 (in a secret ballot). That's a better landslide than anything Albo could engineer (although he managed to 'decapitate' 2 leaders, El Presidente Felix has only managed one). Removal of immunity for Kabila from prosecution. Now he's not protected. Which means his lackeys and problem makers are no longer protected. If he's not already having a long black in Brussels today I'll be surprised. Watch the squealing and retributions start emerging over the coming weeks/months.

Three: getting Rwanda and the DRC to make $$ together. Agreeing to onsell minerals to Rwanda is a BIG thing in that part of the world.

4: Orange boy wants a Nobel Peace Prize. He was ticked off when Obama got one. So he wants one too. To be able to claim he has resolved a 30 year old war that has claimed millions of lives (and includes a genocide within the overall story), well, if Orange boy wasn't involved you'd have assume that it was a shoe-in for the Nobel Peace Prize

And this has all happened this week.

IMO and TLDR: the deal is done including a final figure. We just need to wait four-five weeks to hear the outcome.

If it is done and dusted like you think then surely someone knows something about the price......

Probably. But we will have to wait. I've been reading the tea leaves like everyone else here and can't wait for it to be over.

It's just that I felt the stress come off this morning when I saw that announcement For the first time in years.

Exactly my thoughts ... the deal is done, just waiting for the DRC and Rwanda peace deal to be announced before announcing that Kobold and a mining partner (maybe Rio) are buying the Manano rights from AVZ.

Don’t know whether you’ve been reading the room but Macron isn’t exactly a huge fan of Orange Boy as you call him and France isn’t that enamoured with the US currently so I doubt that kind of tactic would have played out.

The rest of your post is well reasoned though.

I'd just like to throw my hat in the ring and offer an opinion on what the latest announcement means.

I still have no fucking clue what is actually going on or what the outcome is going to be . 🙃

Kabila (supposedly M23 backer), the previous thief who is behind Dathomir, educated and trained in China and living in South Africa, lost yesterday his immunity in the DRC senate.
The same day the boss of South Africa gets a dressing down from the Don and after makes nice piccies with all to see.
The same day we see an announcement that the ICSID proceedings have after consultation with both parties be pushed back by about a month.

Is it all part of the puzzle? Will Kabila be asked to POQ out of South Africa?

Who knows, lots of things happening.

*To remind,
  • Final Phase (week of June 15):
  • Presidents Kagame and Tshisekedi are expected to formally sign the peace agreement in Washington.
  • The signing will be attended by:
    • U.S. President Donald Trump
    • Kenyan President William Ruto, representing the East African Community (EAC)
    • Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, representing the Southern African Development Community (SADC)
    • Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé, representing the African Union (AU)
    • U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio
    • Additional representatives from Qatar and France
This latest breakthrough builds on a series of recent diplomatic efforts, including a ceasefire agreement between the DRC government and M23-AFC rebels brokered in Qatar, and previous direct meetings between Presidents Kagame and Tshisekedi also held in Doha.
