A little tip: when you prepare a post there is a preview button at the top right. You can use it to test whether everything works. You can also cache the post there. Sometimes it happens when I clumsily do several things in parallel that my post is irretrievably deleted.
Another special thing here at TSE is that we can easily delete or edit our posts at any time. This does not refer to you, of course. I have already deleted mountains of my crapola posts 😅

I have conversed with a participant that attended the Sustainable Mining Summit in Sydney and Talga were represented at this meeting according to her. No worries,

The timeframes in this article are well aligned with how we are progressing.

It addresses the usual theme we are seeing more in the media: graphite deficit looming with supply shortages; natural to overtake synthetic; underinvestment in graphite; Li-B to be the major sector of the graphite industry; new entrants will take many years if wanting (or even able) to enter the market (TLG will make that a tough barrier to entry); graphite being used as the anode for many years, with the need for OEMs to qualify/test for any new technology (MT highlighted that on Thursday).

All of this is positioning the company so well; setting up the opportunity to secure a deep wide moat.

Congratulations to Magnis. As far as I know, Tesla has rescheduled it's battery production plans from Europe to the US due to the the new battery laws over there. It only assembles battery packs in Berlin now, but does not plan to produce Batteries for the time being. Plans change faster than the weather with Tesla, so doesn't need to mean much, but be cautious to draw any conclusions for Talga. In any case, the Talnode-C production is way too low for Tesla without Niska, even if they plan to produce Batteries in Berlin. Talnode-Si is a different story though. Not yet sure how that fits the picture.

Not sure if this link will work for everyone but if it does Mark speaks on the 11.00am-12.30pm video from the 20 min mark.

Did MT just let something slip?

"Critically, we use machinery that can scale up.. We have to be in a position where in future you're doing 100's of thousands to millions of tonnes of Anode, and we are doing that very successfully"

:O
I know I've thought (dreamed) about it. So I am sure MT has too.

In any case, the topic is very present. I still wonder how they can scale up at will with the small hall in Rudolstadt.

Don't know. But we can bet that this level of ambition for scaling up is gonna require some extra capital. Oh wait... never mind :p

Also, what he said in the subsequent q&a at around 40min... He sees Talnode SI going into commercial production by the end of next year or early 2025. Initially there is potential in the industry for 10s of kilo tonnes, 100s eventually. I hope they will want to serve a large portion of that. He sees it on a similar price level as graphite anode per kWh. If 10% addition gives you 50% boost... we might be talking about $50k ish per tonne 🤑🤑🤑

Around 51 mins he mentions new engagements from North American customers following the IRA, both OEMs and battery manufacturers.

At 53' he talks about Talga having potential for 800 kt/a, doing all things locally, "not confirming it" of course 😉 Add to this international ambitions...

Good example of the IRA in action incentivising Northvolt to prioritise Nth American expansion over European plans.

Good wake up call for the EU Legislators to get the CRM Act & Net Zero Act right or risk more of this happening.

At least Talga not potentially has optionality via Talnode Si expansion options not being reliant on the Vittangi mine. But for Europe’s sake, I hope they get the design of the new policies right to support the industry transition locally.
