Hong Kong (CNN Business)Samsung on Tuesday outlined a plan to pour more than $350 billion into its businesses and create tens of thousands of new jobs over the next five years.
Despite an uncertain economic environment exacerbated by long-running supply chain issues and the war in Ukraine, the South Korean conglomerate said that it would invest 450 trillion won ($356 billion) through 2026, primarily in core businesses such as chipmaking and biopharmaceuticals. That marks a 30% jump from what it spent in the previous five-year period.
The bulk of the investment — 360 trillion Korean won ($285 billion) — will be invested in South Korea. It did not specify where the rest of the funding would be allocated.


The group is also embarking on a hiring spree that will create 80,000 new jobs through 2026, "or about 16,000 positions annually," it said in a statement. Previously, its goal was to generate 40,000 jobs from 2021 to 2023.


Samsung profits soar 50% on chip sales

Most of the jobs are expected to be in South Korea. But the tech giant also has research and development centers across the globe, including in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and the Philippines.
Samsung is best known for its electronics division, with its popular smartphones and televisions. In recent years, the company has leaned further into its role as a provider of semiconductors as manufacturers around the world suffer from shortages.
Memory chips, which have proved to be a key moneymaker for Samsung, will continue to be a focus area with further investment planned, according to the firm.




Samsung will create 2,000 jobs in Texas with $17 billion chip factory
On the consumer side, the company plans to beef up its development of 6G, the next generation of wireless telecommunications technology.
The news comes just days after US President Joe Biden visited a Samsung semiconductor factory at the start of a visit to Asia.
"So much of the future of the world is going to be written here, in the Indo-Pacific, in the next several decades," Biden said while stopping by the plant in South Korea.

The AGM was the best I have ever attended! We have an absolutely stellar Team and it was great to meet them in person.
In regards to the share price Antonio was right on the money "the share price will do what the share price will do".
I briefly chatted with Peter and passed on my disappointment with the votes against him... we are lucky to have him on board and is definitely the heart of the company. Congratulations Peter to everything you have achieved and will achieve in the future.

I have bought many shares year on year and will be buying some more very shortly!!!!! Stay true to your own plan, the rest is just noise.

I'm glad you spoke to him. In my opinion the votes against him were embarrassing and unfathomable to anyone that has been around this company for awhile. However, what I have learned from HC and Twitter, which I have been spending more time on lately, is that there are a lot of just plain crazy people out there who I will never see eye to eye with. Peter is crucial to the development of Akida. I can't believe there are people that don't see that and want to support him in this journey - and yes, it still is a journey with a long way to go, not just for the commercialisation of the business but for the further development of Akida. All aspects will be important to our long term success.

I’ll echo other peoples experience with my own… it was fantastic meeting a number of folks from here, some of which also shouted me a drink - that was very nice of you, thank you.

Meeting the BRN team face to face was also nice, I particularly enjoyed meeting Ken because we’ve had a dialogue open for years now.

As the admin of this forum the ASX doesn’t really allow me specifically to say too much but what I will say is to echo Fact Finders own words, “an investment reaffirming experience” sounds like a perfect one line summary of the day / evening.

it was great to meet u and shout u a well deserved drink and great to meet others.

I agree, the speechs in the agm were not rehearsed but truly honest and passionate.

Very exciting times lay ahead and lots of secret stuff going on behind the scenes which I'm sure the 1000 eyes have uncovered an exemtrely small amount to be revealed and much much more lies under the iceberg.

Had a brief chat with Peter to thank him for such a wonderful contribution to technology and our lives and we chatted briefly about life and i smiled when i learnt that he moved across to use an iPhone, i said perhaps i need to switch to iphone too and he just smiled. In fact it was actually a surreal moment to meet Peters team.

I won't be surprised if there are a number of announcements within next quarter as there is just too much in the pot.

Wonderful drinks and laughs after with the tse crew and all my other fellow brners who couldn't attend, u were there in our cheers!

Also 3 legged stool i found quite clever as its a stable object and will not wobble, has strength and integrity.
