Arm Cortex-M Series Processors Spark a New Era of Use Cases, Enabling Low-cost, Low-power Computer Vision and Machine Learning​


The Arm Cortex-M processor family of microcontrollers is designed and optimized for cost- and energy-efficient devices, and can be found in a variety of applications such as the internet of things devices, industrial equipment and consumer electronics. As awareness has grown about the benefits of incorporating visual intelligence into systems, there’s increased interest in implementing both classical computer vision and machine learning in cost- and energy-constrained devices such as video doorbells. In this talk, we explore the computer vision and machine learning capabilities of Arm’s ultra-low power Cortex-M0+, Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M7 processors with DSP instruction set extensions, as well as the latest Cortex-M55, which delivers tremendous performance and efficiency via the M-profile vector instruction set extensions based on Arm Helium technology. We’ll also showcase how Arm is empowering the entire CV/ML ecosystem—including silicon partners, ISVs, OSVs, developers, and OEMs—with reference software and development tools.


How Do We Enable Edge ML Everywhere? Data, Reliability, and Silicon Flexibility​


In this talk, Zach Shelby, co-founder and CEO of Edge Impulse, reveals insights from the company’s recent global edge ML developer survey, which identified key barriers to machine learning adoption, and shares the company’s vision for how the industry can overcome these obstacles.

Unsurprisingly, the first critical obstacle identified by the survey is data. But the issue isn’t simply a lack of massive datasets, as is often assumed. On the contrary, the biggest opportunities in ML will be enabled by highly custom, industry-specific and even user-specific data. We need to master data lifecycle and active learning techniques that enable developers to move quickly from “zero to dataset.”

The real and perceived inability of today’s ML algorithms to reach the ultra-high accuracy needed in industrial systems is another key barrier. New techniques for explainable ML, better testing, sensor fusion and model fusion will increasingly allow developers to achieve industrial-grade reliability.

Finally, in order to accelerate ML adoption in embedded products, we must recognize that most developers can’t immediately upgrade their systems to use the latest chips — a problem that is compounded by today’s chip shortages. To enable ML everywhere, we have to find ways to deploy ML on today’s silicon, while ensuring a smooth transition to new devices with AI acceleration in the future.

Fraunhofer held a workshop in September 2021 where they invited guest speaker Blaise Aguera Y Arcus who leads an organisation at Google AI working on research and new products. This is the link to one of Blaise's team's public contributions on Federated Learning which shows how it all works in cartoon format and where BrainCHip's Akida might fit into the scheme of things.

How good is this ❤️
I was thinking how good will AI be in helping people with disabilities. I watched the struggles of people with Autism struggle to understand emotions and the frustration and isolation it can create. imaging a little support piece that was coaching you on what you see to interpret emotions as you interact.

Or those that are quite sight impaired getting signals as objects come into their proximity.

Regardless of how much money brainchip will generate it will really help those that struggle to experience the world as people take for granted. I hope one day there will be preferental IP rates for projects that assist in these areas.

Also when you read @Rocket577 s post of the Nviso material it is clear that they have their algorithms and AKIDA involved in Federated Learning. Why? Because they say so. Makes it easy.

A little update from the company Jerome Nadel is apparently impressed with the 1,000 Eyes. I will say no more other than he could not believe how quickly the new website and what it contains was discovered. I think next time he will be foreARMed as a result. 😂🤣
