In the presence of President Félix Tshisekedi, the Congolese government and the American company Kobold Metals signed a preliminary agreement for mineral exploration.
This Thursday, at the African Union City, President Félix Tshisekedi presided over the signing ceremony of a preliminary agreement between the Congolese government and the American company Kobold Metals regarding mineral exploration in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Congolese Minister of Mines, Kizito Pakabomba, and the General Manager of Kobold Metals in the DRC, Benjamin Katabuka, signed the agreement, sealing a strategic partnership aimed at paving the way for American investments in the sector.
Welcoming the agreement, the Kobold Metals representative in the DRC stated that it aligns with the agreements between the United States and the DRC for peace and prosperity. "We hope that this door opened by the Congolese government for American investments will lead to further U.S. investments in the DRC," said Mr. Katabuka.
According to the General Manager of the American company, the signed agreement will be implemented in three key areas: "The company commits to investing in the DRC in the digitization of geological data, exploitation using advanced technology, particularly artificial intelligence, and the development of a lithium mining project located in Manono, in Tanganyika Province."
Mr. Katabuka noted that the DRC has a wealth of geological data that is not being utilized for the country’s benefit. He stated that Kobold Metals aims to finance the digitization of this data to make it accessible to everyone, thereby attracting investments to the DRC’s mining sector. In this regard, he promised that Kobold Metals will soon apply for research permits for large areas of land, using American technology.
The Congolese entrepreneur affirmed that Kobold Metals’ goal is to employ more Congolese people, train them, compensate them, and contribute to building infrastructure for the well-being of the population.
