Ever since Kobold got involved with AVZ, Cominière has gone completely AWOL. Hopefully, we’re close to finally drying the ink on this saga, and everyone walks away with a fair value offer. Personally, I’d love to see Celestin and his crew do some jail time too — that would be the icing on the cake.
I actually like Kobolds pragmatic approach to solving the situation... Cominiere/AVZ JV was 25/75. Cominiere somehow split off half the project and somehow formed a 60/40 JV with Zijin. So Kobolds framework involves Cominiere keeping the north with Zijin (and you would expect they are therefore completely out of the south), we agree to pause legal action and transfer remaining commercial interests to Kobold in exchange for a
fair value amount taking everything into consideration. Kobold will develop the asset with all haste and act as a test case for US investment, singing the praises of doing business in the DRC, how safe/strong the US/DRC partnership is and prosperous for all parties. The only sticking point for us is the fair value compensation (which we can speculate on but Nige has been negotiating for a while so likely we should be happy - we know, they know, everyone knows what the options are if its not).
So then the real question becomes... why oh why are some shareholders so keen to torpedo any deals that we don't know the details of, muddy the waters with accusations and uncomfortable questions (that politicians will obviously want to distance themselves from when we now want them to step in and ease the way forward) and generally just throw a wrench in the works against their own interests? Really it only benefits China.
Chill for a few weeks and lets wait for announcements... twitter wars and bringing attention to
things, may not be in our best interest right now. You can always take up the fight later if you feel you can make a difference.
