AVZ Discussion 2022

Weird to think that if not for Cominiere and Zijin holding back the project with all the bs Manono would be in construction phase and locals would be employed and already benefiting greatly. How long can the DRC gov hold off the development of Manono? Are they seriously going to let this arbitration shit go on into late this year and next year and wait for an outcome? Ffs

We're in a war where information is everything.
AVZ's tactics include silence so as to give the enemy nothing.
This is well established, indeed actions were taken to stem leaks.
Seems to be working just fine to me.
Maybe we should follow suit.
I don't know how you see AVZs situation to be "working just fine" but maybe you see something I don't, what do I know? 😂

Thanks 9card.
What bollox that is! But it was to be expected hey.

The jist of the ICC request seems to rest on the assumption that the JV is terminated and the mine developement can not proceed, and it's all because of AVZ being evil corrupt wretches who are power hungry, uncooperative thieves!

Classic move really, accuse the others of doing all the dodgy shit you're doing.

However the emergency ICC ruling is that for the moment, the JV is still in effect.

I don't claim to understand a thing about legal processes, but as a layman, I would imagine this request can not be processed until the ICC case regarding the JV status is complete.

Also I can't imagine it going down too well in Kinshasa, that a government department is being funded and teaming up with a foreign business entity together in an international court. Complete conflict of interest, but it's the fkn DRC isn't it...

Fuck me I would kill for a really detailed update from the company.
Rumors of one coming soon right?

It does look like a bit of a desperate move, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at AVZ. Hope that's the way of the matter anyway.

"Rumors of one coming soon right?" Not rumours but one will be coming.

AVZ have been making plenty of noise. Most of it through Christian Lukusa, Marius Mhigo, journalists and the NGO's. Documents supporting AVZ's claims have repeatedly found their way into the public domain and pretty much all of the facts are now known.

The only silence has been from the bod themselves while in suspension with the exception of legal updates through announcements and the roadshows / AGM. And that's mainly so Nigel doesn't make any more stupid promises that he can't guarantee during interviews imo

And Cominiere (or should I more accurately say it's "noted and exposed" awful corrupt actors) could not be more "anti" the future of the good people and the children of the DRC

It beggars belief that this govt institution continues to operate outside the law and continues to rob the DRC nation of a decent future

All of which could be possible with the development of the Manono lithium deposit under Australian standards and ethics which has a focus of true prosperity for all and a real win/win for the local community, the DRC and investors alike

Wake up!!!!!

The funny thing was Zijin’s lawyers were quoting and referencing AFR Tommy as gospel. Hi Tommy, who’s you source? Ms Chen Chen, Zijin Mining's in-house legal counsel. That’s what happens when you have no legal backings and it’s all about the he says/she says bullshit.

The United States invests US$250 million in the Lobito railway line, Angola/DR Congo/Zambia

May 23, 2023
Kiki Kienge

By Kiki Kienge
Announced by US President Joe Biden during his G7 meeting in Japan with his Zambian counterpart Hakainde Hichilema, the United States plans to invest nearly US$250 million in the development of the Lobito rail corridor linking Angola to DRC and Zambia.

A press release from the White House of May 22, 2023, announces;
“The Lobito project is the first step to connect and develop trade and economic activity from Angola to the DRC. PGII is actively seeking other opportunities to connect initial Lobito Corridor investments across the continent, to Tanzania and ultimately to the Indian Ocean. »

The Lobito-Benguela railway will be used in particular for the export of minerals from the DR Congo and Zambia, such as copper, cobalt, soon lithium from Manono and other minerals.

US President Joe Biden said regarding the Lobito project:
“The railway line would stretch from the western coasts of Angola to the border of the DRC and Zambia, with the aim of eventually reaching the Indian Ocean, linking the continent from east to west to the first time. »

On the side of the DR Congo whose customs which connects the two countries, is at the border in the city of Dilolo in the DRC and Luau in Angola, an obvious economic advantage for the DRC: a shorter evacuation of Congolese goods, less costs compared to other means of transport such as to Tanzania, Kenya or Namibia.

In terms of the achievement of offenders, the DR Congo seems to be behind despite some docile movements at the Dilolo border under the regime of Joseph Kabila and at the start of the mandate of Félix Tshisekedi, compared to Angola which has already invested more than 333 million $US in the project.

Kinshasa should also benefit from the Lobito project, via the western corridor linking the DRC to Angola via Kikwit via Kahemba to end in Luanda.
Will the SNCC, the national Congolese railway company in serious difficulty, be able to follow in the footsteps of Angola and Zambia?

I have very un ezy feelings about this china trip. Feels like I've put the kids in the play pen with a knife block full of my sharpest knives.
I know what you mean.
The thing is he doesn't need to go to china to screw over AVZ if he wanted to.
And china don't need to meet in person to offer bribes.

I think we're all imagining them getting together for poker, getting loaded and laughing about old times, then they bring in the girls. Afterwards throw an arm around a jolly DRC president and smiling with a fat brown paper bag offered say, "so how about that silly old mine in Manono?"

They're a major partner with the DRC with business and all that, a trip there is completely normal.

Keep this in mind, a major part of the visit is in regards to the predatory deals china has in the DRC mining sector, and all that negative attention is good for us non chinese who have offered everything above board, and fair.
In the midst of this diplomacy and renegotiation with respect to china not doing the right thing, imagine them offering more bribes for Manono!
It wouldn't go down too well.

They are welcome to take Manono legaly at a fair price, if they want the thing at all costs, there is always that.
No doubt they will apply pressure to get what they want, and that's what they've been doing in the past to get the mining deals that favor them.

It's possible he might even be asking them to tell Z to back off so they can get this thing into operation.
His ministers are implicated in this corruption with Z, and China are likely holding them to the fire over this.
I believe it's in Felix's best interest to negotiate a way for them to back off.

Screwing over AVZ will be very bad for them, particularly with the USA suddenly in the picture.

Actually that makes me think, part of the visit would be diplomacy about the USA entering into the DRC, as china would be spewin' about that.
It all needs to be smoothed over form the perspective of the DRC.
I would imagine.

Mate, all the reciprocal briefings and negotiations will be done well ahead of time, and the meeting with Xi Jinping will be the usual reinforcement of trade ties and a smiley photo opportunity. If Manono is on the agenda, its already decided.

I also tend to agree with Azzler about China's concerns about the DRC potentially letting the US get a foothold in the DRC. As we all know, Chinese companies and missions have a lot to hide and they do not want western competition for resources or scrutiny of their operations.

Cheers
