That's my very uneducated guess. Pre announcing something that Sean wanted kept a secret. We all know everything is a secret with BRN

His previous post makes no sense at all in connection with the current one. The first post was clearly referring to a breakthrough in their work – and that’s how many understood it, judging by the reactions. The fact that Anil even congratulated him only reinforced that impression.

And then in the very next post suddenly the U-turn with “I was let go from Brainchip.” Honestly – you don’t do that. If nothing comes out tomorrow regarding any Brainchip progress, I’d consider it rather negative on his part. To me it looks very unprofessional. I find this approach highly questionable.

Just my opinion.

Hi 7fur7, could have been a contract to employ Oliver when the patents were received and finalised his contract/employment would be terminated. Just a thought.

Hi!

Hmm could it be ? I mean, how accurately does someone work if they know they’re only there for the patents… it’s not exactly unimportant. Do you really give it your all, or do you hold some things back for later?

Some people would give everything to build a strong reputation and make it easier to land their next role.

Others might consciously keep a few ideas in their pocket to use later with a new employer or their own startup.

In the end, it’s all speculation.

I think your guess is plausible. Anil congratulated him on his pre announcement and although Anil may be out of the loop I think he would have known what Olivier was working on. It is also possible that up until then Olivier did not know he was going to receive his marching orders. As you say, BrainChip does everything they can to honor their NDAs.

Mercedes-Benz spins out Silicon Valley chip group into new company

f9a7aded3755d91883d0d3c77157b2f6

By Stephen Nellis

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -Mercedes-Benz (MBG.DE) on Friday spun out into a new company a group of chip experts in Silicon Valley that is working on creating a new generation of computing brains for self-driving cars, drones and other vehicles.

Athos Silicon, based in Santa Clara, California, will house a group of engineers who for five years worked at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America to develop the new chips, which aim to be safe enough for use in cars while using less energy than existing chips.

As part of the spinout, Athos is receiving intellectual property developed by the group and what Mercedes-Benz described as a "significant" investment, though neither the carmaker nor Athos disclosed the value of the transaction.

For chips used in cars, reliability is key, so critical self-driving functions are often handled by two or more separate chips in order to have backups in case of a failure. The Athos team developed a way to get the same kind of reliability using "chiplets," which are tiny pieces of chips that can be bound together in a single package.

Keeping the chips in a single package can use 10 to 20 times less power than having separate chips that must communicate with one another across a circuit board, Athos Silicon Chief Executive Charnjiv Bangar said in an interview on Friday. Those power savings are important in electric vehicles where the car's computing brains must compete with its wheels for limited battery power.

"For an electric future, electricity is a new currency," Bangar said.

Athos Silicon intends to raise venture capital from other investors. Bangar declined to disclose Mercedes-Benz's precise stake, but said the carmaker will be a minority shareholder and the chip firm will have an independent board.

"Independence is important for Athos, so that we can reach out to other (carmakers), competitors of Mercedes. We need to make sure we have a neutral approach," Bangar said.

(Reporting by Stephen Nellis in San FranciscoEditing by Nick Zieminski)

The headline is a bit misleading. It makes it sound like Mercedes created a full-fledged chip subsidiary, but Athos Silicon is actually an independent startup. Mercedes only contributed some IP and money, keeping a minority stake …Athos will raise VC on its own and work with other OEMs. What role (if any) BrainChip played or still plays? No idea…

honestly just annoyed at this point. not only regarding Mercedes

Has he broken the rules

Hmm…He didn’t really reveal anything… he just wrote that he’ll announce something……on a Saturday….. Nothing confidential in that, so I doubt it breaks any NDA… was his last post what he wanted to share? I don’t know.. because he said “tomorrow”

Really mysterious his behaviour

Ahh.. We don't need the Brains anymore.
We've still got the Chip right? 😉

Not happy with the level of senior staff turnover at BRN.

Anyway..... Olivier's first post described 2 weeks of long hours as though he was working to complete a task by a deadline and was planning on sharing what that task was. All guess work but looking at the technology roadmap, Computer Vision - TENNs lines up.

Could it be that the TENNs models he has been working on are now complete and instead of a pat on the back from Sean, he got pushed down the stairs???

Very gangster!!

Yep. I don’t get it either.

Yesterday his comment was “ I’m thrilled to announce something big tomorrow. Looking forward to sharing more!”

Today “ I got the call: I was let go from BrainChip today.”

So…….. is he Thrilled about getting let go? Intriguing! He was thrilled and looking forward to letting everyone know he was being let go.

Not going to speculate either way. Concerning though for sure without some further clarity on what where why how!

I doubt THAT was what he was looking forward to sharing with the world this Friday... In fact, I don’t think he expected that phone call in the morning at all, it must have taken him by surprise, just before the start of his workday.
(He posted on LinkedIn about having been sacked shortly before 9 am his time).

While he seemed upbeat and enthusiastic in his first post late on Thursday night his time, presumably brimming with excitement to share the news about an important milestone after having put in a lot of work in recent weeks, his second post to me expresses utter disbelief and embitterment.
He evidently wasn’t prepared for the company’s decision at this point in time.

The reveal would likely have been about a new TENNs model or patent and not breaking any NDA with a customer? 🤔

This reads more like self-promotion. By highlighting the joint achievements with Rudy, it feels like he’s trying to present himself as part of a ready-made team for NVIDIA. He’s playing a high-stakes game, but this kind of public behavior doesn’t cast him in the best light. Whatever happened internally could still be explained in an interview – but one should keep in mind that companies often check with former employers to hear both sides. In a defensive mindset, it’s easy to misinterpret things. Just my opinion.
Of course it's self promotion, it's LinkedIn. He would of also been promoting one of our new products.

Rumours you say.

Hmm.. Maybe he asked Sean to replace Rudy with someone of equal experience and he refused to babysit the next batch of interns.

😁

What ever happened.. we will never know.. and we will see if he will announce something today or not… that’s all… At the end of the day, we’re just spectators anyway.

Of course LinkedIn is full of self-promotion, but you should never throw your former employer under the bus …no matter what happened internally. Future employers will always check with both sides, and public negativity rarely leaves a good impression.

Cuts both ways. Future employers will also look at Sean's record at retaining key staff.

It's not a good record.

It's not a good record.

In the end, he’ll be judged by the results he delivered – whether he managed to turn the company into a profitable machine. The personnel decisions won’t really matter to him or to any future employer (if there even is something after BrainChip for him).

But we’re just going in circles here. What really matters to me is that things finally take off. Honestly, as long as the results are positive, I couldn’t care less about the internal personnel drama.

Sean’s doomed no matter what he does. If no staff ever leave he would hear shareholders tell “get rid of non performers, your running a baby sitting club. Make tough decisions”. As soon as staff leave he hears “why’s everyone leaving. Too much staff turn over. Instability”. Haha whatever…..

It's sounds like he may have a disagreement with seniors under pressure on the way things need to be implemented or handled internally, by the way he has explained his run up to dismissal Definitely the egos are at war imo.

Maybe and think about this, Management have a record of supressing news, Old mate comes out and declares big news coming worthy of an announcement, Argues with management told not his place to be speaking on open forums reference company achievements, even thou it’s his achievement, old mate astonished that they ain’t gunna announce it and knows it’s illegal and says I want no part of this, May explain a lot of recent departures. So workers have ethics and would rather die on the sword rather than be a part of what they see is unethical. Said it all along management are shonks and hiding what should be announced. Would explain the sales teams departures too, but we are making sales let’s just defer that income till future years.
Whatever happened, according to his own words there’s still enough material for three more patent filings. He’s definitely not walking away empty-handed – most likely there will be some kind of settlement with profit-sharing from those patents and a nice severance package. So, no hard feelings .. fresh blood needs to come in anyway. 👀🤷🏻‍♂️ I just want to stay optimistic!
