Series B Funding Expands Quadric's Product Roadmap and Scope of Product Capabilities
Quadric, the company building the industry's most advanced high-performance edge processing platform optimized for on-device AI at the network edge, announced today a $21M Series B funding round. NSITEXE, Inc., a group company of a leading mobility supplier DENSO, led the round with major investment from MegaChips. Existing investors Leawood VC, Pear VC, Uncork Capital, and Cota Capital also participated in the round.
Quadric's unique ability to handle both neural backbones and classical dynamic data-parallel algorithms in a unified architecture is helping to create AI for everyone, everywhere. Most other solutions combine high-power CPU clusters with application specific NPUs. Quadric's unified architecture is flexible enough to accelerate the entire application pipeline without the need for a powerful CPU.
"It's an exciting time to be able to partner with industry powerhouses in semiconductors and AI to bring accelerated computing to the Edge," said Veerbhan Kheterpal, Co-founder and CEO of Quadric. "The market is saturated with rigid accelerators. Our product fills the void with a fully programmable multi-kernel processing architecture."
The investment will enable the company to release the next version of their novel processor architecture, improve quadric SDK performance, and roll out Intellectual Property (IP) products for integration in System on Chips (SoCs). Quadric's second-generation architecture will improve topline performance, consume less power, and maintain the familiar m.2 form factor for developer use and deployments. Samples of second-generation silicon products will be available at the end of this year. Quadric will expand the team and hire in these key product areas. Visit quadric.io/team to learn more.

Just wondering how AKIDA would fit tin with this? My train of though is tha considering that BRN's association with Megachips is already disclosed, would they not include reference to AKIDA if that's what people are thinking?

It fits within MegaChips' IP portfolio. MegaChips provides fabless chip solutions and is expanding its offerings in several areas (in this case, both BrainChip and Quadric are in their AI/ML category). This allows them to provide multiple solutions to their buyers based on their requirements.

Think of it like a vendor selling more than one type of vegetable. Of course, Quadric is going to be considered competition on some level, but MegaChips does a nice job of pointing out the key features and applications of both on their site. Let's just say that BrainChip lists more (and in some cases different) in either category.

I do not think it is anything to be alarmed about.

Time to keep the faith. A reminder.

We know that on MegaChips' website about page it states:

"In 2021, the company made multi-million-dollar investments in two key AI/IP partners, Brainchip and Quadric, to bolster its offerings in the Edge AI market. The company is now positioned to make an aggressive move into the US ASIC market, using its skills in Edge AI as a key component of that move."

And just a few days ago under the title 'MegaChips Focuses on Edge AI with Custom ASIC Solutions' we got this:

"MegaChips is thrilled to offer the most turn-key solution for enterprise companies looking to implement AI technology," said Douglas Fairbairn, Director of Business Development. "The expansion to the United States is an excellent opportunity for us to bring our edge AI expertise to some of the most innovative technology companies. I have put the recent 4C behind me. Onwards and Upwards. Let's see where we are this time next year.

I don’t recall seeing any of the funds linked to the Megachips licence deal. Certainly none shown in this recent 4c. I’m a little confused if no monies have exchanged at this point of the relationship. It appears as though Megachips gave the secret source/sauce. I don’t think BRN have any $ from the deal yet. Any thoughts on this from anyone. Maybe I missed seeing income.

A licensing payment is only required when an application using BRN Akida technology is produced to sell commercially or use internally like NASA. Megachips provides turn-key solutions for enterprise companies looking to implement AI technology. Until that happens, no licence required or royalties. The money is in the royalties.

Yes this should be massive for us. They are investing in a whole new business model and capability that isn't available in the market now and they need us. Companies don't have this skill set and keeping this talent is difficult. It's going to be a fun ride with MegaChips.

Hi ndefries, it is not just us that think so.

MegaChips takes aim at edge AI in US with ASIC program

Japanese ASIC provider rolling out AI partner program to get around in-house expertise

Japanese ASIC provider MegaChips is rolling out an AI partner program pitched as allowing organizations to deliver AI capabilities without requiring in-house experts. It is also expanding into the US market to sell its full ASIC design services to American tech companies.
MegaChips is a global fabless chip company that claims to work closely with its customers' design teams to deliver the tech they need in silicon. The AI Partner Program marks the entry of the business into the global edge AI chips market, estimated to be worth $9 billion in 2020, claiming there is growing demand for embedded AI solutions.
For edge AI chips, think of silicon designed to power devices at the network edge, where processing of data may need an instant reaction, power may be limited, and sending all the data back to the cloud or a datacenter for processing may be costly in terms of bandwidth and add latency.
According to MegaChips, the AI Partner Program benefits include access to a dedicated team of engineers to identify the best ways to implement desired AI functions, custom "proof of concept" demonstrations, and optimization of the complete system. It also eliminates any need for customers to have their own silicon implementation teams, it said.

The AI Partner Program appears to build on two key technology partnerships that MegaChips recently established. One is with BrainChip Holdings Ltd, an Australian AI firm, to acquire its edge-based AI solution, BrainChip Akida, a neuromorphic processor.
"By providing Akida's on-chip learning and ultra-low power Edge AI capabilities as an integrated technology in MegaChips ASIC solutions, we are able to bring practical, cutting-edge capabilities to the edge that ensure power efficiency without compromising accuracy," said BrainChip VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Rob Telson.

The other is a stake in Quadric io, a US firm that has developed an AI inference processor for edge devices that integrates AI and DSP (digital signal processing) functions, enabling it to accelerate all the steps involved in processing data from a variety of sensors, according to the firm.
MegaChips also announced it is now offering its full-service ASIC solution in the US, which director of business development, Douglas Fairbairn, said is an opportunity to take its edge AI nous stateside.
At the other end of the scale, chip designer Esperanto Technologies recently showcased a processor with more than 1,000 general-purpose RISC-V cores, aimed at delivering faster and more energy-efficient AI inference performance.
The Register reported last year how AI chip startups are focusing on performance-per-dollar and energy efficiency as their competitive selling point against solutions using general-purpose processors. ®

After the new podcast I had a deeper look into Nintendo. There'd been a leak about technical features of the forthcoming new console. Code of the Nvidia Orin platform been found. Orin with integrated Akida is in use in the Mercedes EQXX.
Again only in German, maybe you can find some further information in English.

Thanks for the translation.
