They are speeding ahead with green steel, same for any critical raw materials sourced in the most sustainable production. Looking like talga might increase production at a very fast rate going off this tweet.
If course this is an assumption, but I know one thing 19,000 tons ain't going to be enough. No chance.

I am totally confident in talga covering all possible spanner in the works for permits being granted, June 23rd is key date for me, when that passes I think talga will be in driving seat.

Permit is the CRAB holding this stock back. All announcements have temporary effect just holds the line.
What can we expect from the quarterly which is due in next couple of days?

Sweden is getting more eyes on how great a mineral source for the energy debacle from Russia and China reliance.
See attached for new discovery in kiruna of phosphorus by Lkab. Wonder if they would need to go through a long drawn out permit process for this discovery considering the need for fertiliser. Could this be the discovery that changes the policy in Sweden to act quicker.

This is interesting! It has nothing directly to do with us but you are right, it concerns the attitude of Sweden towards mining and its role for Europe I think.
In about 50 km there are two very important sources of raw materials for Europe, both of which are critical.
I was first confused by your message because I thought only of the recycling project ReeMAP for phosphorus. But now the discovery in their deposit!

"Although there are challenges in establishing a new mine, which Per Geijer (Kiruna) will be, despite the fact that it is adjacent to existing operations, we are seeing considerable interest in, and support for, our plans. This is not surprising, since Sweden has perhaps the world's most climate-efficient and environmentally efficient mineral production, in which case it is only reasonable that we should assume responsibility for producing critical minerals for Sweden and Europe," concludes Pierre Heeroma."
https://www.lkab.com/en/news-room/n...ports-of-phosphorus-ore-from-russia/?aid=5232

I think the action plan of the policy will be intensified now...

Exactly. Change is needed. This should do it. All the signs have pointed towards sweden being able to streamline policy. This will go to front and centre in making them changes happen.

I think we missed another visit! At the moment, it's in and out, so I'm losing track ;)
Unfortunately, the newspaper makes it impossible for me to subscribe. I would have done it for us long ago.

Thank you! The link has changed, this one works:
https://www.mining.com/web/column-europe-urgently-needs-an-accelerator-in-the-critical-metals-race/

Maybe that's why we have politicians going in and out.

“Recycling could be Europe’s major supply source for most transition metals”, but only after 2040, according to the study.
Until then the Green Deal is still going to need new mines and more refining capacity."

The key takeaway of this article is that EU must make mining easier because recycling of metals is not going to cut it before 2040. And maybe never will for graphite.
So yeah, it makes sense for politicians to visit talga in order to see what they need to accelerate. But it's not only policy changes that are necessary. Maybe it's plain old decisions making being accelerated as well. As MT said in the EU Interview. Talga needs decisions.

"Sanctions against Russia could speed up the transition"

Many sanctions have been imposed on Russia since the war in Ukraine began on 24 February. But for the industrial establishments in the north, the sanctions can have a positive effect. "The fact that you want to free yourself from dependence on Russia can mean that the industries speed up the process of becoming fossil-free," says Anders Ahnlid, Director General of the Swedish Board of Trade.

LULEÅ 29 APRIL 2022 16:32

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce is a government agency that governs the regulations regarding trade in services within the EU. On Thursday and Friday, Director General Anders Ahnlid was on site in Luleå to, among other things, visit the business community and see how it is affected by sanctions and the climate. On Friday, he was on site at Talga's pilot factory in Luleå.

- The sanctions that we in the EU handle, we have a mission to, in trade policy, safeguard, defend and expand free trade for sustainable development. We are used to opening countries up for trade, rather than closing and directing sanctions against countries, Anders Ahnlid explains.

The aim of the sanctions against Russia is to limit the country's economy to the extent that Russia can no longer afford to pay the costs of the war.

- In the situation that has arisen, the Swedish Board of Trade, which has previously handled sanction cases of a much smaller extent, has been commissioned to be the authority responsible for sanctions relating to trade, import and export. In addition, we also freeze assets. These are the sanctions we are responsible for.

What kind of imports and exports have been banned or restricted?

- There are a number of goods that you can no longer trade with Russia, this applies to a large number of goods with dual uses, both military and private, Anders Ahnlid explains.

Russian gas and oil are still not sanctioned, which means that there are no bans on importing them from Russia. But the strong opposition to Russia's actions may be a factor in speeding up the green transition.

- If there is anything that can have a positive effect from what is happening, it is that it accelerates on the way from fossil fuels and that is where Norrbotten comes in as a key region, says Anders Ahnlid.

How threatened is free trade right now?

- We had reason to ask that question even before the pandemic struck. We have seen that the great powers are less inclined to develop trade policy systems. The EU is trying to make the trade policy system work, but we have seen that it is going in the wrong direction. The big question now is how China will respond to this.

I thought Grafintec/Beowulf+Epsilon are doing this:
https://www.vaasa.fi/en/news/one-of...the-battery-industry-under-planning-in-vaasa/

I also recommend reading this. They seem to have solved their funding problems
https://www.hbl.fi/artikel/rasmus-b...brist-pa-ravara-storsta-hindret-for-snabb-el/

Elkem also has/had an MOU like us: https://news.cision.com/freyr/r/fre...-battery-materials-for-environmental,c3225164

But of course the question remains where they will get their anodes from as early as the second half of 2022. They are still in the planning stage and have not even started to build. But that's exactly the same question as for NV.

It appears, all the battery manufacturers are playing Chicken at moment w.r.t. Anode supply among others.

MT on the ground in Sweden next week presenting at the Sweden Mining Research & Innovation Day in Lulea. A busy visit to Europe I suspect.

Interesting that this didn’t appear in the list of conferences they would be presenting at in the quarterly.

Thank you for the reminder!
I also look with interest at the participant two points above your mark. Perhaps he is also there to monitor the goals of the commission. See post:

I think the conference will be very important for Sweden and acceptance for us. And more and more I get the impression that Talga is being made to Sweden's environmental showcase mining project.

Ah that’s a shame if he’s not there in person. Good line up of influential Swedish & EU Gov’t Officials with permitting high on the agenda!

Does anyone know whether Mark is still overseas post his trip to the USA? I was hoping he would be in Europe making up for lost time.

Daniel Cios (DG GROW, European Commission) actually seems to be there because of us and the funding programme HORIZON linked above. Listen to him here from mark 08:20:

It is about environmentally friendly and responsible resource extraction. I think we should be able to do that and get at least one of the 11 funding programmes. But that says nothing about what could or will be discussed in the background about a major funding. The Commission has asked how it can support us...
