Laying the Blueprint on Using Edge AI to Support a Wide Spectrum of Industries

NewsSmart Manufacturing
ByMBO

BrainChip Holdings Ltd, the world’s first commercial producer of ultra-low power, fully digital, event-based, brain-inspired AI, has officially announced a whole new lineup of partners who are developing revolutionary technology demonstrations and products with the Akida™ Edge AI Box.
In case you weren’t aware, Akida™ Edge AI Box happens to be a compact, cutting-edge appliance which provides AI/ML processing power to support a wide variety of markets, such as manufacturing, warehouse, retail, hospitals, energy, automotive, and aviation. More on that would reveal how this particular technology actually makes for an embedded Linux solution with Ethernet, Bluetooth, and USB interfaces.
The stated integration treads up a long distance to let its underlying innovation provide a complete edge AI computing platform based on Brainchip’s Akida AKD1000 IC.
Another detail worth a mention is rooted in the solution’s pledge to put BrainChip’s event-based neural processing, capable of closely mimicking the learning ability of the human brain, into energy-efficient, portable hardware. This it does to deliver powerful AI computing performance level, a level which has consistently showed to exceed market standards for edge AI computing appliances.
Here, Dual Akida processors also step in to seamlessly perform on-chip learning, independent of the cloud, for application security, reduced training overhead, and faster learning.
Beyond its technological brilliance, the solution also offers the prospect of substantial cost efficiency. In fact, an example of that can be had once you consider it would be financially viable to deploy Akida Edge AI Box in every patient’s room to monitor their health and safety; in every store aisle to gauge shopping experience; in every car, truck, boat, or plane in the fleet to manage logistics.
Furthermore, we ought to mention that BrainChip developed the Akida Edge AI Box in partnership with VVDN Technologies, a premier electronics innovation and manufacturing company. VVDN would on to manufacture BrainChip Akida Edge AI Box Developer Kit, as well as custom versions of the product with OEMs for volume commercial applications.
All in all, BrainChip Akida can be used as an event-based computing platform ideal for early detection, low-latency solutions for robotics, drones, automotive and traditional sense-detect-classify-track solutions. Complementing the same would be Brainchip’s decision to provide range of software, hardware, and IP products for integration into existing and future designs.
“The Akida Edge Box is a great platform for running AI in standalone edge environments where footprint, cost and efficiency is critical, while not compromising performance,” said Sean Hehir, CEO of BrainChip. “We look forward to announcing more partners developing edge AI for their customers’ specific use cases and more importantly, we look forward to the ideas these companies will bring to life with the Akida Edge AI Box.”
Anyway, talk about companies that are currently leveraging this technology, we begin from the Edge AI Model training and Development space, where Edge Impulse is demonstrating how easy it is to build and deploy custom machine learning models directly on the Akida Edge AI box.
Next up, there is the field of gesture recognition. Here, BeEmotion, an innovator at the intersection of AI and human behavior that provides cutting-edge solutions, is banking on Brainchip’s technology to enhance interaction, prevent accidents, and bring enjoyment to the everyday use of technology.
Then, we have the subject of climate change, an area which is witnessing AI Labs, a pioneer in AI, robotic process automation, and software development, using Akida to forecast and gain visibility into contributors to climate change, such as emissions.
Moving on, the model evaluation field also stands to gain from Akida and that is evident in DeGirum, a leader in AI innovation with comprehensive solutions that accelerate the adoption of AI at the edge, and its successful attempt to streamline AI workflows.
Hold on, we still have a couple of bits left to unpack, as we haven’t yet touched upon how Quantum Ventura Inc., provider of advanced R&D to the federal government in fields such as machine learning, hyperspectral imaging, and cybersecurity, is leveraging Akida to enhance its CyberNeuro-RT (CNRT) technology, which happens to be an AI/ML-driven, highly-scalable, real-time network defense & threat intelligence tool.

Found this on the other place.

You can rent 1 week cloud access for US$5000 as per below. I guess they are done giving free freebies. Maybe too many basements "specialist" was playing around? Ha-ha I don't know honestly, but a big company don't care so much about 5 grand. But we also don't know for how long this has been in place for?
One way of generating a bit of income, I guess.

Aligns with BrainChip’s long-term strategy to accelerate customer access to its innovations and reduce development cycles

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–BrainChip Holdings Ltd (ASX: BRN, OTCQX: BRCHF, ADR: BCHPY), the world’s first commercial producer of ultra-low power, fully digital, event-based neuromorphic AI, today announced launch of the BrainChip Developer Akida Cloud, a new cloud-based access point to multiple generations and configurations of the company’s Akida™ neuromorphic technology. The initial Developer Cloud release will feature the latest version of Akida’s 2nd generation technology, Akida 2.

“Our developer cloud provides instant access to the latest Akida technology, as we deliver our Akida products on our roadmap to customers quickly and easily,” said Jonathan Tapson, chief development officer at BrainChip. “We’re reducing the time and effort to utilize Akida, so developers can program and execute their network models for immediate results so they can accelerate product development. We’ve shortened the time between our innovations and our customers’ ability to seamlessly and cost-effectively access Akida.”

One of the key innovations of this approach is that developers can stream their real-time data to Akida Cloud, perform inferencing, and stream the results back locally. This is demonstrated in a featured use case, eye-tracking, with immediate results used to measure accuracy and allow iteration of the training of the model to improve the results over a range of actual operating conditions. Hélder Rodríguez López, Embedded Software Research Engineer at Arquimea Research, said, “The Akida Cloud’s ability to provide us advanced access to the latest features of Akida and easily test our neuromorphic model innovations remotely is a real advantage for progressing our advanced model development programs.”

BrainChip Developer Akida Cloud key benefits include:

  • Rapid prototyping: Developers can access and leverage Akida’s latest features without needing physical hardware.
  • Developer-first access: Engineers can start development in parallel with hardware deployment.
  • Extensibility: As new versions and configurations of Akida are released, BrainChip can make them available via the cloud.
  • Partner benefits: Partners can demo working models and prototypes for customers so they can work in parallel before gaining access to Akida boards or chips.
  • Flexible business model: Includes limited free access and usage-based pricing with credit toward eventual hardware purchases. BrainChip also sells an Akida FPGA Developer Platform if a customer wants an on-premises solution.
Engineered for ultra-efficient, low-power AI, the second-generation Akida 2 is now available in the cloud, delivering a four times performance and efficiency gain over Akida 1. Developers can now build more sophisticated models on Akida 2 with greater accuracy thanks to new architectural support for 8-bit quantization. New models supported on Akida 2 include state-space based Temporal Event-Based Neural Nets (TENNs), which enhance the ability to process raw temporal data from video, audio, and sensors. This combination simplifies the development pipeline, reduces model size, and accelerates the deployment of advanced AI in edge applications across multiple sectors.
