I am also of a similar mind, but have seen mixed advice on the forum here. So I contacted AVZ directly and here is what they said:As long as AVZ does not publish an explicit request to shareholders that ALL shareholders must be registered with Automic in order to receive, for example, a special dividend or other special payment, I believe that custody at the custodian bank is sufficient.
Normally, the bank is the registered holder, but it acts for and on behalf of the beneficial owner, which is me.
It is the same for me: my shares are held by my bank (DKB) at a custodian or partner bank.
I assume that in the event of a TO, or any kind of end to AVZ, the shareholders will be informed of how to proceed.
I would not currently transfer the shares to another broker in advance for no reason, which would also enable them to be held at Automic, and this would probably involve costs.
At the moment, however, nothing is clear and I remain on hold.
Or does anyone have any specific information about this?
I'd tell you but I'm not allowed to talk here sorry. Can one of you guys explain how AVZ might be in a position to fully frank a payout. Don’t they have to have paid company tax in Australia to be able to pass on a franking credit? Ignorant Kiwi asking for a friend

If AVZ don't pay tax on the sale of Manono in DRC or SIngapore then we won't be eligible for relief from double taxation in Australia and it will need to be paid by either AVZ or the recipients of the dividend imoCan one of you guys explain how AVZ might be in a position to fully frank a payout. I will hold the line and not go through the hassle/cost of registering with Automic unless management advise me to do so.
Cheers

you can contact automic, provide some proof of ID and they will re-post the letter out again... they can't email it... (that's what i was told)...Thanks so much! Hopefully I've got the letter stashed away somewhere.
You Mean TanCA right?
They warned me that it may take two weeks to land.you can contact automic, provide some proof of ID and they will re-post the letter out again... they can't email it... (that's what i was told)...

It did, so don't lose any sleep over a delay.
Unfortunately we do not have a tax treaty with the DRC so double tax is a risk which makes it so important to make sure the correct entity is sold/ taken off our hands. If AVZ don't pay tax on the sale of Manono in DRC or SIngapore then we won't be eligible for relief from double taxation in Australia and it will need to be paid by either AVZ or the recipients of the dividend imo
