AVZ Discussion 2022

I dont want to go through the courts for two reasons. Namely time, I want out asap and secondly there is risk in outcome however small. Going the legal route is the last option imv and so a discounted buyout off of fair value is reasonable.
I don't want to either, here's hoping for an outcome in the next 60 days!

Nothing to do but have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to come together either way.

Would be good to have other interested partners with Kobold .6
As this hinges on Security for Minerals which only US can provide.
It was already mentioned a possible JV with RIO and Kobold which makes a lot of sense as Kobold are not miners.
Manono has to go to US
IMO
Sorry I disagree it does not HAVE to go to the US , but it can go to the US if they are willing to pay the correct price ,so if they really want it and are willing to protect the DRC , ante up or join the auction , I for one are sick of the yanks thinking they can control the world same as China . One thing I do think this could be a long drawn out battle .

Is anyone else other than a US consortium a real option given the desperation by the US for some form of support from the US to help resolve the armed conflict? If the DRC and US are locked into some security deal then that means the only viable bidder will be one led by a US company. Obviously eu, saudi's, rio, etc could supply finance and expertise as some have speculated. My point being though, the number of actual bidders may be limited. So AVZ's options may be take the offer on the table or go to court. This environment makes it difficult to drag a fair and reasonable bid out of the US consortium. I obviously could be misreading the situation and do hope I'm wrong, as like everyone else here, I'd love $12/share.

One thing I do know, now that we seem to have some action, I really hope this gets resolved quickly.

I reckon, perhaps unfortunately, that you are on the money.
- Any buyout is going to be led by the US, as only they can provide the security support that is driving the DRC to make a deal. (Maybe Rio will be part of a JV for their mining experience.)
- The amount offered to AVZ won't be fair. It'll be a low ball "take it or leave it" offer.

I wonder if the deal for AVZ might be sweetened by a CGT tax discount from the DRC. And why should Zijin get the North for free? They could be required to compensate AVZ as well.

"If the wars of this century were fought over oil, the wars of the next century will be fought over water".

Former U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

I think Boutros got that one wrong. It should obviously read:

"If the wars of this century were fought over oil, the wars of the next century will be fought over that sweet, sweet, lithium"

At the heart of this dynamic, the partnership between KoBold Metals, a company specializing in mineral exploration using artificial intelligence, and Rio Tinto, a major player in the global mining industry, is of paramount importance. This strategic alliance aims to exploit Congolese mineral deposits more efficiently and sustainably, while meeting the growing demands of the global market.

Is the journo jumping the gun or is the partnership all but a done deal?

*To remind,

KoBold, Rio Tinto, and the DRC: Trump’s Special Envoy Massad Boulos on a Mission to Broker a Lithium Mining Deal in Manono

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), rich in strategic minerals such as lithium and cobalt, finds itself at the heart of a complex geopolitical influence game.

The announced arrival of Massad Boulos, a US special envoy, in Kinshasa underscores the United States’ growing interest in Congolese mineral resources, amidst persistent security tensions.

US President Donald Trump has appointed his daughter’s father-in-law as a special envoy for the Great Lakes region of East Africa, according to two people familiar with the plans.

This appointment comes as the DRC, grappling with one of Africa’s largest conflicts, seeks to strike a critical minerals deal with Washington.

Lebanese-born businessman Massad Boulos, whose son Michael is married to Trump’s daughter Tiffany, was named Trump’s senior advisor for Arab affairs in December.

Boulos, who worked in his family’s Nigeria-based motor vehicle distribution company early in his career, received security and diplomatic clearances as early as this week and may travel to the Congolese capital, Kinshasa.

A Contested Lithium Project at the Center of Attention

One of Massad Boulos’s primary missions will be to facilitate the recovery and resale of a contested lithium project, currently in the sights of mining giant Rio Tinto.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to secure the supply of critical minerals, essential for the energy transition and cutting-edge technologies.

Minerals vs. Security: A Delicate Balance

However, this interest in the DRC’s mineral resources comes against a backdrop of concerning security.

The country faces persistent armed conflicts, involving various rebel groups and militias. In this context, the “minerals vs. security” equation takes on its full meaning.

The United States, keen to secure its supplies of critical minerals, may be willing to strengthen its security cooperation with the DRC in exchange for privileged access to its mineral resources.

This delicate balance between economic interests and security imperatives is a major challenge for the future of the DRC and its international partners.

The arrival of Massad Boulos in the DRC marks a crucial step in the negotiations surrounding critical minerals.

The KoBold-Rio Tinto partnership, as well as the “minerals vs. security” equation, illustrate the complex challenges facing the country, at the crossroads of economic and geopolitical interests.

Hold strong, Nigel! Trump didn’t send his Special Envoy, Massad Boulos, all the way to the DRC to broker a lithium mining deal with KoBold and Rio Tinto just to have it fall apart in front of the global media.Victory is the only outcome! “America will start winning again, winning like never before.”
