Agree.
3 pathways from here:
- AVZ has followed the law (esp. the Mining Code) to the letter.
- The DRC officials have eschewed the rule of law in favour of personal gain.
- Having given up any personal principles, and having acted outside of their delegated authority, laws and regulations, this (or any letter) is unlikely to jolt them back into a moral and rules-based stance.
- The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Felix has walked by and, by dint of inaction, is a-okay with corruption.
- The bases are now loaded by the corrupt ones.
I have not included PE of all of 13359 as an option. Feel free to make a case as to why this outcome is still possible.
- ICC. I don’t see local courts being trusted to handle such cases.
- Significant concessions by AVZ to corrupt actors/companies.
- Total loss of 13359. In which case refer option 1.
I agree, such a shame it has come to this, obviously things aren't going well in country.
The DRC government doesn't care about the law or the truth otherwise we wouldn't be in this position in the first place. On top of this they're incompetent, gutless and corrupt.
I find little comfort in any of this.
Got a fucken headache and also a metaphorical headache.
