Indeed, and, as NaNose recently announced their inclusion with NVIDIA I thought it relevant to remind those who may not be aware that we were once connected with their research. If that's not the case anymore then please update us. Otherwise, knowledge is always useful however it's used.
Or could it be that NaNose are accessing our IP through Nvidia.....God I hope so...............

I had been wondering about BRN / BeEmotion given the brand change etc and if still well engaged.
Hi FMF,
Nvisio has been maintained as an "enablement partner" on the Brn website, which has recently been updated to BeEmotion.
Not sure when it was updated though.
cheers

Personally I'd be very surprised if this wasn't the case.

Rob Telson made a point of saying NVIDIA is seen as more of a partner than competitor in the past.

BRN staff have been liking NVIDIA posts on LinkedIn and vice versa the past 2 years +.

Also, NVIDIA is a megachips customer i believe? (Nintendo certainly is, and i believe Nvidia is the usual chip in the switch)

In the interest of discussion about the company, I have been doing a lot of thinking lately.

I think John Chen (ex-CEO of Blackberry) would be a good candidate for BRN CEO. He's turned around Sybase from a loss making company to a $6B company at acquisition, though his record with Blackberry (before his recent retirement) was not stellar, he did right the hulking ship and pivoted the company away from handsets into IoT and security software. I wonder if he would consider coming out of retirement to try and commercialise the world-changing technology of a small neuromorphic tech firm?

If this article from Nov 2023 is to believed, it seems that the Nanose/Sniff Phone device is still going to be a few years away - some 4-6 years according to this report. It looks like in the interim, issues regarding accuracy will need to be addressed.

However, now that NVIDIA are involved I imagine that this time-frame could be significantly reduced.

It also mentions the device will be commercialised through a spin-off company.

Known to be the latest low-cost nanotechnology diagnostic tool, the Sniff-phone is a project that represents a new concept with great potential, starting in February 2015 and ending in February 2019, proposed by Professor Hossam Haick at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. It is a small device capable of identifying stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer. To use it, the patient will sniff into the mouth of the device and the information will be collected, which will be received and evaluated through a mobile application. This noninvasive method offers instant results and could revolutionize the way cancer will be detected in the future.

How does it work?

1*f_vpRPvad9Ii5gW4wuPxsQ.png

The user holds the device in front of their mouth and exhales to generate a breath sample. A miniaturized array of highly sensitive nanomaterial-based chemical sensors measure the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in exhaled breath generated by cancerous tumors. The results are stored and preprocessed using microfluidics and miniature electronics integrated into a chip. The deduction obtained by the Sniff-phone is sent via Bluetooth to the mobile phone that has the respective application downloaded, in order to proceed with the interpretation and evaluation of the results. From the cell phone, it is sent to a specific cloud platform, that is, an external server, where it is analyzed by medical personnel. If the existence of cancer is detected, an alert is sent to the patient's doctor.
Another interesting fact is that there are promising signs from clinical studies that claim that the project could not only detect advanced gastric cancers, but also various types of cancers and precancerous symptoms in patients, thus being a great revolution for the world of medicine.
Professor Hossam Haick and his presentation of the Sniff-phone:

Advantages

1*VA5YUlJjQ1A6diiONpRKAQ.jpeg

The Sniff-Phone detection method offers several advantages. Dr. Kari Antila from the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), who is associated with the project, says in a news item published on the website of the online newspaper “The London Economic”:

New smartphone app tells people if they have cancer - by 'smelling' their breath

The 'Sniffphone' analyses gases in the mouth using a breathalyser that is attached to the phone

www.thelondoneconomic.com
“The device is comfortable, painless and easy to use. It is also a simple, fast and cost-effective alternative to detecting gastric cancers.”
The app that is used with the device is also very convenient for the user, due to its effectiveness and its strong focus on the user. Additionally, this medical device has the characteristic of providing non-invasive, fast and inexpensive disease detection. In addition, it does not require a high level of maintenance and is compatible with both iOS and Android, which makes this app the perfect complement to the device.

Disadvantages

In a validation study of the project, 274 patients were analyzed: 94 with gastric cancer, 67 with high-risk cancer, and 113 controls who were not insured against the disease. The first conclusion of the study was the high probability of obtaining more accurate results for those high-risk patients, compared to patients in the other two groups mentioned. With this information, we can conclude that, even though it is cheap, easy to use, and low maintenance, the most important thing for a device of this type is its precision and if it is not able to detect gastric cancer 100% of the time, in my opinion, it would be fruitless and useless. Many considered it “the ideal detection tool,” however, in my opinion, it is a promising product but it needs to be precise to show a real change in the field of medicine.

Awards

As I mentioned, this is an extremely revolutionary device that, with the necessary adjustments, could become one of the biggest innovations in recent years in the world of medicine, it was to be expected that it would receive some recognition from external entities. This is partly due to the great team they have and the level of distribution they have. For this and much more, the Sniff-phone received the 2018 Innovation Award from the European Commission for the Most Innovative Project in November of last year.

Future plan

Regarding the distribution of the product in question, Dr. Antila maintains that:
“The next step of the project is to seek funding for this innovative method of cancer detection. The device will be commercialized through a spin-off company.”
With the aim of contributing to scientific work dealing with different types of cancer and their treatments, this project will be financed with European funds, as it is part of the EU's Horizon 2020 funding programme, made up of nine partners from all over Europe. In addition, the team in charge of this project plans to expand its horizons towards other types of cancer, beyond the gastric cancer mentioned above. It is estimated that it will be marketed within four to six years, but not before ensuring that the device has accurate and precise results, accompanied by a low cost, comfort and ease of use.

Distribution

Speaking more specifically about its distribution, we should mention that a research consortium headed by Professor Hossam Haick received a grant of six million Euros from the European Commission to develop the product. This consortium is composed of Siemens, universities and research institutes from Germany, Austria, Finland, Ireland and Latvia, and the Israeli company NanoVation-GS Israel. We can see that this product is undergoing a process of increasing popularity throughout Europe. It will not be long before it becomes a world-renowned product, and when that time comes, the world will learn about the immense technological advances and the great changes that our society is undergoing.

Conclusion

This little device is not only excellent and gives promising results, but it also shows potential to detect other malignant and non-malignant diseases. Even successful results have been shown in patients with lung cancer, however, this still requires a lot of work and research by the Sniff-phone team. It is a project that gives hope to anyone who hears about it and inquires. Cancer has been a disease that has plagued human beings since 3000 BC, when the Egyptians documented the first case. We are used to being afraid of this disease and even panicking. However, by informing ourselves and knowing that, just like the Sniff-phone, there are hundreds of little-known but promising projects that reduce the worries of many. An advance of this type demonstrates the capacity of human beings to detect diseases of this type early in asymptomatic and oligosymptomatic patients, saving lives and reassuring those who fear this disease. This is only the beginning of a technological era that is favorable for many. More projects of this kind will come to light, not only in the field of medicine, and will change the way of seeing, thinking and interacting of an entire society.

So we ask someone who wants to retire to come back to work in the same role as someone who doesn't want to retire?

Let me think about that for a minute...🤔

Imagine this device in a few years having the ability to recognise several different types of cancer by breath.
Quite remarkable really that we are this close to such a medical achievement

And then it will only be a small step for it to be incorporated into your smartphone. Every call you make, it’s monitoring your health…. ❤️
