Shared by Skar on HC.
Our flythrough of the plant from a year ago, re-uploaded in the past hour but in french.
My take on that is for DRC audience rather than international investors. Not sure if it gives us any insights to what's going on, but it's something.

While the Minister of Finance seeks to borrow $70,000,000 to pay the civil servants, there is more than $100,000,000 that we lose because of certain people in the file. #lithium_Manono $AVZ

And if we go to trial, we risk $10 billion in compensation and above all the blocking of lithium mining. Soon 2023 is coming to an end, the population of Tanganyika is being deprived of their only opportunity for employment and development... NABO BANA VOTAKA...

He's an absolute tool that has ramped up his insults on Twitter towards the DRC due to the fact that he will soon be banned - he's trying to go down swinging. Just report the fool.

He also reads TSEx - so on that note, fuck you @FizzTyson:D
He's also an aussie.
Wonder if he works for the Australian Financial Rag!

*They always talk about Copper and Cobalt in these articles as if it was the ONLY thing that goes into a Battery these Days, but for some reason they never mention / forget to, are too embarrassed to use the words "L for Lithium & M for Manono" for some strange reason, something i thought was a major mineral / very important part in a "Win-Win" Battery Industry, unless i'm mistaken :oops: :rolleyes: :unsure:

*These resources brought together through this cooperation constitute essential elements of the energy transition that the world urgently needs.

*It should be noted that the electric battery supply chain development plan will enable open and transparent investments to build a value-added and sustainable industry in Africa, serving a just energy transition for workers and local communities.
:rolleyes:

Tell that to the People of Manono who are losing out every Hour of every Day :mad:

DRC-Zambia-USA tripartite evaluates the Agreement on the Battery industry

After the INDABA Mining Forum in Cape Town, South Africa, the agreement on the battery industry was once again at the heart of discussions within the DRC-Zambia-USA tripartite, on Saturday April 15, 2023, in Washington, DC, United States.

Signed in December 2022, the memorandum of understanding is in line with the objective of the DRC and Zambia to set up a productive supply chain, from the mine to the assembly line, while committing to international standards to prevent, detect, and prosecute corruption throughout this process.

“We have been invited by the Biden administration. I, Julien Paluku Kahongya, the Congolese Minister of Industry, and my colleague from Finance, Nicolas Kazadi, were received this Saturday in Washington DC at the State Department by the Deputy US Secretary of State for the Economy, Energy, and the Environment, Mr. José W. Fernandez.

We were there to assess the collaboration agreement signed in Washington last December between the Congolese, Zambian, and US Governments for the development of a regional value chain around the battery and electric vehicle industry,” said Julien Paluku, the Congolese Minister of Industry.

In addition, Julien Paluku specified that this meeting precedes the launch of the pre-feasibility study for the installation of the first manufacturing plant planned in the province of Haut-Katanga.

According to Julien Paluku, this meeting was an opportunity for the American administration to reaffirm its firm determination to support the realization of this major project likely to boost several African economies.

However, it should be noted that the DRC produces more than 70% of the world’s cobalt.

Zambia is the world’s sixth-largest producer of copper and the second-largest producer of cobalt in Africa.

These resources brought together through this cooperation constitute essential elements of the energy transition that the world urgently needs.

It should be noted that the electric battery supply chain development plan will enable open and transparent investments to build a value-added and sustainable industry in Africa, serving a just energy transition for workers and local communities.

*To add, I see where Ivanhoe is going Gangbusters, showing how things could be done / duplicated at Manono, but for some reason the DRC has decided that the desparately needed Biggest / Best Hard Rock Deposit on the Planet just sits there spinning it's wheels, going nowhere while the DRC suffers, How Frustrating, FFS Felix !!! Seriously !!! Hard to believe, but True :(

Ivanhoé Mines aims to supply the Critical metals needed for the Energy transition in DRC

In its so-called “sustainable development 2022” report made public on April 13, 2023, Ivanhoé Mines indicated that its sustainable development strategy is shaped by a philosophy of “mining with a higher purpose”.

The report states that Ivanhoé Mines not only aims to provide the critical metals needed for the energy transition, but also seeks to be a forerunner in its approach to mining.

Indeed, the approach used in the 2022 Sustainability Report is based on the principles of good governance of people, planet and prosperity, as defined by the World Economic Forum and in line with the company’s vision to create shared value for shareholders and other stakeholders.
In fiscal 2022, Ivanhoe Mines notably:

reported an overall reduction in total recordable injury frequency rate across all sites;

– achieved, or on track to achieve, 16 of the 17 sustainability goals and targets set for 2022;

– Kamoa-Kakula’s contribution to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was equivalent to approximately 4% of the country’s GDP;
– more than $95 million contributed to group-wide employee payroll in 2022, in addition to more than $70 million in local payroll taxes.
– currently, more than 97% of Kamoa-Kakula employees are Congolese;

– approximately $300 million was paid in government taxes and fees in 2022, of which more than $280 million was paid to the DRC government;
– $20 million spent on socio-economic development initiatives in all Ivanhoe host communities in 2022.

An increase of more than 100% over 2021;

– representation of female employees group-wide increased to 10% from 9% in 2021. This is a significant achievement as the group-wide workforce grew by 20% in 2022 , led by Kamoa-Kakula.

It should be noted that female representation at Platreef is now 27%, up from 23% in 2021;

– more than $1.2 billion spent with national suppliers across the group;
– 644 scholarships distributed group-wide;
– 322 formal and informal local businesses supported at group level compared to 66 in 2021;
– 76% of the energy consumed group-wide came from renewable sources, including state-owned hydroelectric facilities rehabilitated and financed by Kamoa-Kakula;

– 33% reduction in water consumption;
– Ivanhoe Mines joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC);
– Ivanhoe Mines joined the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

CATL launches condensed battery with an energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg, enables electrification of passenger aircrafts

On April 19, CATL launched condensed battery, a cutting-edge battery technology at Auto Shanghai.

With an energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg, it can achieve high energy density and high level of safety at the same time in a creative manner, opening up a brand-new electrification scenario of passenger aircrafts. CATL can achieve mass production of condensed battery in a short period of time.

To address the changes of the super high energy density materials resulting from electrochemical reactions, CATL's condensed battery leverages highly conductive biomimetic condensed state electrolytes to construct a micron-level self-adaptive net structure that can adjust the interactive forces among the chains, thus improving the conductive performance of the cells and in turn the efficiency of lithium ion transporting while boosting stability of the microstructure.

What is more, condensed battery integrates a range of innovative technologies, including the ultra-high energy density cathode materials, innovative anode materials, separators, and manufacturing processes, offering excellent charge and discharge performance as well as good safety performance.

The launch of this cutting-edge technology breaks the limits that have long restricted the development of the battery sector and will open up a new scenario of electrification centering on high level of safety and light weight.

At present, CATL is cooperating with partners in the development of electric passenger aircrafts and practicing aviation-level standards and testing in accordance with aviation-grade safety and quality requirements.

In addition, we will also launch the automotive-grade version of condensed batteries, which are expected to be put into mass production within this year.

"Meeting customers' requirements is the core driving force that drives technological innovation for CATL," said Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL.

Currently CATL has the world's most extensive technology roadmap for batteries, and has developed the capability to turn fundamental research to industrial application, and then to large-scale commercial applications.

For example, in 2021, CATL rolled out the first generation of sodium-ion battery with an energy density of 160 Wh/kg, which has been launched on Chery Automobile during this exhibition.

In 2022, CATL unveiled Qilin battery with the highest integration efficiency in the world, and it has started mass production this March.

They have been used on multiple high-end BEVs such as ZEEKR, AITO and Li Auto.

As electrification extends from the land to the sky, aircrafts will become cleaner and smarter.

The launch of condensed batteries will usher in an era of universal electrification of sea, land and air transportation, open up more possibilities of the development of the industry, and promote the achieving of the global carbon neutrality goals at an earlier date.
