In BrainChip’s news release announcing their University AI Accelerator Program they state that The Program successfully completed a pilot session at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) this past spring semester and will be officially launching with Arizona State University in September … with a further 5 expected to participate.

I had never heard of Carnegie Mellon University so I took to google as any fine researcher does these days and I’ve come away very impressed.

CMU is a private research university.

If you search for top colleges / schools / universities for teaching computer science, Carnegie Mellon University repeatedly appears in the top 3 in America.

… the college is perhaps best known for its School of Computer Science. CMU is currently tied for second place on the US News and World Report’s ranked list of top schools for computer science in the country.

More specifically, the college’s programs for artificial intelligence and programming language are known as the very best in the country…

CMU is also known for its engineering program, which is currently tied for fourth in the national college rankings.

Best Artificial Intelligence Programs Being taught? Yep, CMU.
https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/artificial-intelligence-rankings

But it doesn’t stop in the US! Additionally CMU ranks as 6th in the world for computer science according to https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2022/subject-ranking/computer-science

Pretty impressive work by BrainChip to hook up with Carnegie Mellon University. (y)
I look forward to some recognition of BrainChip’s engagement in their computing school on the CMU website in the, hopefully near, future.

Maybe a good direction to take from the company, but sorry does nothing for us shareholders with our investment.

#LikeABosch: Our Bosch #semiconductors are used in cars and mobile devices, but also play an important role in Bosch Power Tools products. Our colleagues at Bosch Africa have developed an innovative distribution channel there: The so-called Bosch Rangers. In Kenya, there are 16 Bosch Rangers on motorbikes supporting the Bosch field service to get into contact with the local customers. What a great program! Hi Terroni,

It looks like CNU were late to the SNN party, but nothing that Akida can't fix.

This is a Carnegie Lemon patent for an autonomous vehicle from 2018 which uses segregated CNN and LSTM:

US11016495B2 Method and system for end-to-end learning of control commands for autonomous vehicle

1660741857327.png

[0068] FIG. 4 is a block diagram that illustrates an end-to-end learning system 102 in accordance with the disclosed embodiments. The end-to-end learning system 102 learns control commands 180 for controlling an autonomous vehicle to address a particular scene in an image. The end-to-end learning system 102 can include a pre-processor 130 , a segmentation neural network 140 , an optical flow neural network 141 , a first concatenation unit (C 1 ), a convolutional neural network (CNN) 144 , a second concatenation unit (C 2 ), a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network 150 , and a fully connected layer 170 . As will be explained below, some of these neural networks (e.g., the segmentation neural network 140 and the optical flow neural network 141 ) are optional and not used in all implementations.

The patent includes a description of the purpose of the LSTM:

[0012] A Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network comprising a network of LSTM cells [Fig 7] can then process, during the current time step (T), the spatial context feature vector at the current time step (T) and one or more previous LSTM outputs at one or more corresponding previous time steps to generate an encoded temporal context vector at the current time step (T). In one embodiment, each of the one or more previous LSTM outputs is a context feature vector from a particular previous time step. In one embodiment, the number of one or more previous LSTM outputs is specified by a window size (w) that defines the number of the one or more previous LSTM outputs to be processed by the LSTM network along with the spatial context feature vector to generate the encoded temporal context vector at the current time step (T).

So what does this tell me @Sirod69 ? Renesas has created an interface chip using the brute force of data centres via the Cortex-A55 and is edge capable via the Cortex-M33 which is Akida compatible?

p.s. have you been watching the rain moving towards Germany from France and Belgium

No one discussing the press release?
I think that's very important. Young people need to get to know Akida better. I still haven't really calmed down, had deleted my post. I listened to a recent webinar (almost 2h) in German. Topic:

Artificial intelligence is pushing computers as we know them today to their limits. Do we need new computers inspired by the brain?

They (also uni Bern in Switzerland, home of Bonseyes) managed to talk for two hours about the state of affairs and what is not yet possible today. I thought easily 20 times about it, hey! do you know as a researcher actually not Akida? The webinar was full of ignorance about the state of things whether on purpose or not. I have even prepared a letter but not sent. I don't think that makes any sense. All you have to do is type neuromorphic and spiking neural into Google and you'll inevitably come up with Brainchip. Anyway, I think it is very important that Akida be distributed to universities. I still shake my head. Who wants to hear it from my German compatriots:

Big deal here, way to go @Fullmoonfever as the education focus should be front and center. Edge Impulse seems to master the education focus already. What a huge event to help in the education of future Akida SNN publishers.

Getting the SNN IP into the workflow of all the steps on the SoC is a big deal. Let's recruit the entire college community!

Thanks for your work I really appreciate it as I often do it in Swedish and sometimes from Hebrew and rarely from Japanese. I had the most work with a newspaper article from Israel. I had to vectorize it screenshot by screenshot and then translate it first into German to make it a readable text and then into English. I can't do much with the info but still. I appreciate your tireless work!
