Why is everyone so surprised about the RTX (Raytheon) reveal?
I had already dot-joined them a month ago as the likely subcontractor of the AFRL announcement:

My guess is our company used the word “partner” here in a broader sense (as in partnering for a project).

This is a Raspberry Pi 5 in a box with the M2 card. See attached. Note: the Raspberry Pi 5 is just a ready available vehicle, the smarts are in the M2 card.Keeping my hopes up.
Could it also be a raspberry pi enclosure with the new M.2 Form Factor boards? According to the Day 2 LinkedIn post, they seem to be demonstrating the M.2 cards.
Just curious that the VVDN edge box on the table seems to be a static box with no cables attached. Also, you wouldnt need a power adaptor that large to run Akida

Yeah fair point. I’d rather they are a more direct partner than through the afrl award but should lead to bigger things either way.

The official ASX announcement - NOT the BrainChip LinkedIn post at the time revealing the AFRL contract - mentioned BrainChip were “currently in negotiations to enter into a subcontractor agreement with the previously mentioned aerospace and defence company for the completion of the contract award”.
That’s the reason why they didn’t name RTX as the subcontractor in December already.
But we found out nevertheless due to an RTX employee’s LinkedIn comment…

As well as hobbyists, Manny's comment about students (of all types) got me to thinking, that many of the University programs that we have going, might actually "require" students to purchase a M.2 card, for projects etc, as part of future course material requirements.
Add to that, because of the huge interest in neuromorphic computing in general, many schools and students, may start their own programs and courses as well.
Because of the relatively low entry cost, this really does have huge potential to bring in some cash and it's basically just a side gig..
Need to be able to supply them though and the 10-12 week wait for Edge Boxes, doesn't bode well for that..

I do indeed also believe that is possible.
I was somewhat puzzled when our company first announced the following in September, as our Dev Kit had been based on a Raspberry Pi 4:
Raspberry Pi is currently developing the above mentioned AI Kit that “bundles the Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ with a Hailo AI acceleration module for use with Raspberry Pi 5 (…) The AI module is a 13 tera-operations per second (TOPS) neural network inference accelerator built around the Hailo-8L chip. The module uses the M.2 2242 form factor, and comes pre-installed in the M.2 HAT+, to which it connects through an M key edge connector. The M.2 HAT+ communicates between the AI module’s M.2 interface and the Raspberry Pi 5’s PCIe 2.0 interface.
Yesterday we found out that AKD1000 will be made available on an M.2 form factor, too.

I remember seeing something about Loihi tests in Space and they weren't good..
Too cold and they wouldn't work..
Then they'd get too hot and turn off.
I think AKIDA, will turn out to be "just right"

Geoff Martin from Raytheon Technologies particularly caught my attention.
Responsible for assessment & solution guidance on innovation across the Raytheon product line to resolve key technical gaps.
In other words, Geoff has a platform with Raytheon to take innovation he discovers in his role in the RTX innovation programme and help facilitate adoption throughout the company. This is pretty exciting IMO as they have obviously become very familiar with Akida through the partnership on the AFRL neuromorphic signalling contract.
Geoff works at bringing key engagements/partners into the Raytheon Innovation Foundry.
One of the areas of focus at the RTX Innovation Hub
Personally, I find this far more exciting ( promising ) than the Mercedes Benz "partnership".
Adoption of BrainChip IP by Raytheon, should it happen, would be the ultimate company maker ( IMO ), and clearly the wheels are in motion to make this a very real possibility.

unfortunately, those Unigen Cup Cake Edge AI Servers currently sold do not yet contain Akida. On buyzero you can so far only choose between an AI accelerator from Hailo (€ 1569) and one from Blaize (€ 1989) - cf. the dropdown menu.
