[Information] According to foreign media reports, BrainChip, a commercial manufacturer of neural AI IP and chips, announced that it has reached a cooperation with nViso SA (NVISO), an AI company for human behaviour analysis, to focus on battery power applications in the field of robotics and mobile travel/automatic driving. To meet the needs of high-level artificial intelligence performance using ultra-low power consumption technology. In the initial stage of cooperation, the two sides will apply NVISO's AI solution to BrainChip's Akida processor for social robots and in-vehicle monitoring systems.

Developers of automotive and consumer technologies are working hard to develop devices that can better respond to human behaviour, so tools and applications are needed to explain human behaviour captured from cameras and sensors on devices. However, these environments may be limited by limited computing performance, power consumption and cloud connection failures. With high performance and ultra-low power consumption (micro to milliwatts), as well as AI/ML processing of visual/image, motion and sound data directly on the device rather than in the remote cloud, Akida can deal with the above problems. Because information is not sent outside the device, the privacy and security of users are also protected.

NVISO technology can analyse the signals of human behaviour, such as facial expressions, emotions, identity, head posture, gaze, gestures, activities and objects that interact with users. In robotics and on-board applications, human behaviour analysis can detect the emotional state of users to provide personalised, adaptive, interactive and safe devices and systems. The results of the cooperation between NVISO and BrainChip are expected to achieve more advanced, powerful and accurate artificial intelligence in consumer products.

Tim Llewellynn, CEO of NVISO, said: "This cooperation will meet the demanding power/cost/performance needs of AI by OEMs. Even in the case of mass production and scale, OEMs can benefit from faster and more efficient development cycles. Edge-based ultra-low-power consumer processing is expected to provide a smarter and more personalised user experience, and we believe that AI solutions running our social robots and in-vehicle monitoring systems on Akida will provide a competitive advantage for common customers to meet their requirements such as low-power budgets and continuous functions. ."

Sean Hehir, CEO of BrainChip, said: "NVISO's human behaviour analysis AI system can provide more possibilities for homes, cars, buildings, hospitals, etc. We are keen to realise the above functions through BrainChip's processing performance and energy efficiency. This cooperation will promote the development of artificial intelligence through the edge AI device platform, so as to explain human behaviour and improve product performance and user experience. PERFORMANCE THAT SCALES
ANY SENSOR, ANY PLACEMENT

The interior of a vehicle is an unpredictable environment. Typical constraints range from driving environmental unpredictability to drastic changes in ambient temperature. These factors drive the need for systems to include sufficient algorithms capable of handling tough environmental conditions and choice of camera placement is critical to enable the robust operation of AI systems. Another factor that adds to the system complexity is accommodating the cosmetic design of the vehicle.
Automotive designers constantly try to introduce new design concepts while also maximizing driver comfort features. These constraints require the position and location of the camera to often change. NVISO addresses these challenges through supporting flexible camera positioning anywhere between the A-pillar and the center stack which is critical to large scale adoption.

When you wake up this is a paper comparing (not very well) the AiML systems available in the market. Academics do these papers when they cannot think of an original research idea to keep their CV publication numbers up.

The great thing about this paper unlike many such papers is they refer to Brainchip.

We knew this already but it is great to see academics catching on to what Peter van der Made proposed over 20 years ago:

“To conclude, the presented results contribute to a growing body of research addressing the open question of how infor- mation can be encoded in the temporal domain of spikes. In contrast to rate-based algorithms, purely spike time-dependent methods have the potential of enabling highly energy effi- cient realizations of artificial intelligence algorithms for edge applications, such as autonomous decision making and data processing in uncrewed spacecraft [41]. Thus, by making novel data structures, methods and applications accessible to SNNs, the presented results are especially interesting for upcoming neuromorphic technologies [40], [42]–[48], unlocking the po- tential of joining event-based computing and relational data to build powerful and energy efficient artificial intelligence applications and neuro-symbolic reasoning systems.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
The author thanks Alexander Hadjiivanov and Gabriele Meoni for useful discussions and feedback on the paper. He further thanks his colleagues at ESA’s Advanced Concepts Team for their ongoing support. This research made use of the open source libraries PyKEEN [49], libKGE [18], PyTorch [50], Matplotlib [51], NumPy [52] and SciPy [53].”

This would be interesting to know but I suspect it will be impossible to know the exact % of extension to battery life Akida would provide. Only Mercedes would know this and I doubt that they would make such details public knowledge.
Perhaps some of the more technically minded contributors would like to comment.
The last Brainchip perspectives paper by Rob Telson provides part of the answer to improved battery performance/life due to AKIDA.

Further confirmation that Brainchip, AKIDA, Peter van der Made and Anil Mankar are leading the field by at least their 3 years:

Energy saving 1000 times! The artificial brain nerve chip runs ...

3 days ago — The researchers say their neural network achieves the same accuracy on speech and vision tasks as top spiking

“The team's ultimate goal is to make spiking neural networks train and run on a neuromorphic chip from start to finish, without the need for a traditional computer.

However, designing and producing the required next-generation chips could take years”

The headline to mislead and get you to read then in the final two paragraphs the sad truth.

To anyone who might doubt the incredible work shared by @Diogenese regarding analogue this article does explain very well all the issues that need to be overcome before analogue can become a competitive threat to the AKIDA Technology Revolution.

hi Hopalong.

Tricky question with a real hard to define answer so I just estimate only.

$5 for me means we have a $9 Bil MC. The Management have said 2025 (?) before breakeven but I believe strongly this is very much overrated! Far to conservative. Try end 2023.

We are doing what about $15 Mil(?) aprox year cost (not looking it up ok) which includes R & D as well as usual running costs , wages etc.
Ok so even if we just get $550 Mil in Revenue by the time we are at $5 SP, then spend $50 Mil on Costs (IP is 98% Profit) leaving roughly $500 mil that still gives us $0.25c Dividend.
When we reach $1 Bil in Revenue that should be my target of $0.50c Div reached and I will be very happy.
Come up with a figure, as all would now be just guesses anyway.

The Projected numbers which Management must have would be constantly being updated and changing as everything is moving ahead much quicker than anticipated by all. The new EU Law is an example of how that helps push our product into service very quick.

All figures are extremely rubbery and just wild guessing at best, but one thing is for sure and that is IP Revenue is going to be enormous very quickly and much sooner than we thought it would be!

The company can only "spend" so much on running itself, and then a major portion of leftover profits will have to be distributed via a Dividend.
Some money will be kept in the "kitty" as a reserve, maybe towards future acquisitions?

And ALL Management now have large holdings of Shares, so they will want Dividends as much as we do!

Hi Yak52
I'm pretty sure our CEO stated in a interview a while back he is expecting a breakeven point between revenue and expenses around the end of 2022.
The inspirational Fact Finder would be able to clarify if this was stated but I'm pretty confident this is correct.
Keep up the good analysis and discussion(y)(y)
