Hi FJ,

The agreement includes something that is pretty unusual for large semiconductor IP deals which is that terminable by EDGEAI without cause on one month’s written notice.

This indicates to me that EDGEAI may still be evaluating Akida or may be early in their design process. So the deal is real, but not necessarily guaranteed to reach production, whihc might also explain why no financial figures have been disclosed at this stage??

It states "The license is global and non-exclusive. The term will be for so long as EDGEAI continues to use the Akida IP, unless otherwise terminated. The agreement is terminable by EDGEAI without cause on one month’s written notice."

Re royalties, it says they will be tied to EDGEAI’s sales of products incorporating the licensed Akida technology. so, BrainChip would earn a percentage of the chips that include Akida, payable quarterly once commercial shipments begin.

Naturally, the value of those royalties will depend entirely on the eventual sales volumes of EDGEAI’s chips, which at this point remain unknown.
Morning Bravo,

Yes, the one month stuck out to me as well. Maybe EDGEAI wanted a get out clause in case there are problems with the AKD2500 reference chip.

As for the royalties, we don't need a dollar figure attached at this stage but we should at least know what the percentage is. With FG, we gave them the license for no upfront fee but we get 10% royalties on the back end.

This is good news but we need more detail.

EDGEAI already has an existing NPU, the EGAI-001S, which I noticed referenced on their website.

The EGAI-001S AI accelerator chip reportedly delivers around 4 TOPS of compute while consuming less than 1.5 W, placing it squarely in the low-power edge inference category.

Given that the announcement refers to integration into EDGEAI’s forthcoming SoC product line, it may be that they are planning to incorporate Akida 2 into a future generation of their products.

Maybe this chip doesn't actually exist. Everything about this ann looks dodgy. Like it's set up to capture some Korean Govt grants.

Please, can someone point to this company having more than 2 employees, please?

I feel that this magnificent deal will set us up for years to come and we will see Akida in many fantastic new wave electronic products. Therefore Seans legacy will now be assured and we shouldn't be too concerned if he is head hunted to an even more needy company than BRN. And so we should wish him well in his future endeavours and encourage him to move on and help other companies in dire need of his explosive revenue philosophy, just as we were.

So we finally have a price sensitive announcement that contains no financial information.

How much are we spending on this collaboration?
How much are we going to earn for reaching any of the "milestones"?
What percentage will the royalties be?

Call me cynical but this reads like an example of the type of ramping announcement that the BoD claim they won't release due to ASX rules.
Keeping the figures confidential is usually the smarter move. If they publicly announce details such as milestone payments or royalty percentages, it gives future customers a reference point to negotiate against.

EDGEAI is partnered with ASICLAND (via TSMC).

Their short-term goal is to commercialize their chips by 2026, then begin mass production and enter the global market in 2027.

‘edgeAI’, a startup that aims to create an AI semiconductor ecosystem using Korea’s unique technology

Currently developing edge-type AI semiconductors based on NPU IP made in Korea

Its ‘Two-Chip SoC Structure’ as a key competitive advantage

edgeAI aims to realize the future of intelligent terminals through domestic AI semiconductors and hardware/software platform solutions. The company is driven by a vision to build an AI semiconductor ecosystem using Korea’s unique technology. It was founded in January 2024 by CEO JUNG-WOONG YANG (50).

Its flagship products are AI semiconductors based on the Two-Chip SoC structure and edge device platforms.

“We are developing edge AI semiconductors based on NPU IP made in Korea and plan to commercialize them in 2026. Additionally, our product, the Edge AI-Box, enables real-time AI inference in various industrial settings, including smart homes, smart factories, and smart parking.”

Yang also emphasized the importance of the K-NPU training board based on domestic AI semiconductors, stating, “Through this, we aim to build an educational ecosystem that cultivates next-generation AI talent. I believe that only by combining technology development with talent cultivation can we create a true ecosystem.”

Yang cited Edge AI’s ‘Two-Chip SoC architecture’ as a key competitive advantage. “This architecture reduces costs, solves yield issues, and ensures scalability. Using a domestic IP is also a major strength. It reduces reliance on foreign products, enhances technological self-reliance, and enables adaptation to diverse applications through modular design.”

edgeAI has already demonstrated its technological prowess and market viability by partnering with TSMC VCA members, such as ASICLAND, AIM FUTURE, Chonnam National University, Honam University, and GIST, and securing government projects. The biggest differentiator is that it’s a technology with practical verification, not just theoretical.

edgeAI is pioneering the market primarily through direct B2B sales and strategic alliances with system integrators. edgeAI is building trust with customers by conducting proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstration projects in smart cities, smart factories, and IoT devices.

Yang said, “I believe showing how our technology actually works in the field is the most effective marketing. We are also working to expand the ecosystem by collaborating with universities and research institutions based on our education platform. Our goal is not just to sell products but to grow the entire ecosystem.”

What made CEO Yang decide to start a new company? “I believe that the AI semiconductor industry is strategically necessary for the nation. In particular, I was convinced that domestic technology was essential. I started the company to contribute to Korea’s AI semiconductor industry, leveraging my experience accumulated over the past 25 years. We secured our initial funding through government support programs, project wins, and self-investment. Securing a project worth approximately 2.5 billion won within one year of founding the company confirmed our growth potential.”

Regarding future plans, Yang stated, “Our short-term goal is to secure and commercialize our chips by 2026. Then, we will begin mass production and enter the global market in 2027.” He added, “In the mid- to long term, our objective is to become the global leader in the domestic AI semiconductor ecosystem. We also aim to grow into a company that creates social value by nurturing next-generation AI talent and practicing ESG management.”

Founded: January 2024
Main business: development of AI semiconductors and edge device platforms
Achievements: Currently executing the 2025 Early-Stage Startup Package project

Yep, disclosure of % locks them in on other to come deals. So confidential.

Hi buena suerte,

Just to avoid any confusion, the Edge AI Foundation (based in California) is unrelated to EDGEAI, the Korean semiconductor company referenced in the announcement.

EDGEAI’s website is also a little tricky to locate because it’s mostly Korean-language and doesn’t rank well in English searches, which can make it easy to mix up with other organisations using the “Edge AI” name.

Frontgrade Gaisler Licenses Brainchip’s Akida IP

"Under this new commercial Akida IP licence agreement, BrainChip is entitled to receive a 10%
royalty on the Net Sale Price of Frontgrade’s first licensed product in exchange for providing Akida
1.0 IP that includes one hundred hours of integration support and twenty-four months of software
maintenance. After twenty-four months Frontgrade has the option to purchase additional software
maintenance for $125,000 per year. Frontgrade also has the option to obtain an additional Akida
1.0 IP licence for one more licensed product for a fee of €150,000 or a royalty of 15% of the Net
Sale Price of the second licensed product. BrainChip is currently unable to estimate potential
future royalty revenues. This licence for the product(s) is perpetual and no other material
conditions must be satisfied to execute the agreement."
