Has it been 3 decades already? It feels like a long time but not sure it's been that long yet?

Some interesting information....

Howard William Lutnick (born July 14, 1961) is an American billionaire businessman, philanthropist and politician who has been the 41st and current United States Secretary of Commerce since 2025.

Lutnick survived the September 11 attacks when he was at the World Trade Center.
Lutnick owns 60% of Cantor Fitzgerald, with a net worth of "at least $1.5 billion".

Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm, was involved in a placement for AVZ Minerals Limited (ASX: AVZ) to raise $75 million for its Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) project.

Soooo.....
Lutnick knows a bit about AVZ.
Interesting stuff.

Sure sure sure 'national security' is important. But your missing the bigger picture even from your own quote.

What's more important to Trump right now than national security?
> Sticking it to China.
The problem may be that if Felix caves to US wanting all of Manono, then the Chinese may come for him.
So rock and a hard place, but it would make it more difficult for US to take all of Manono without some concessions.

So maybe AVZ needs to continue with litigation for longer than we all would like.

Based on what AVZ Minerals stated at 14 March 2025 and parties showed interest in the resource in the recent days I think it is (for sure - as there is no proof on the table) not totally clear why focus is on how much AVZ need to be valued for a so called fair asset deal ...

AVZ stated there " ... representatives of AVZ recently travelled to the US with a view to raising funds to support its endeavours to secure and develop the Manono Lithium Project including via a long-term commitment in respect to its share of the mineral offtake ... "
I read here they are confident in receiving confirmation via ICC and ICSID but will not of course looking for parties to sell their majority percentage to a high bidder. Funding the project is different then selling your asset and raising funds is a clear message at this point I guess. (Would be interesting to know in which pos. they trying to raise funds ... AVZ, AVZI, Dathcom ... ). Anyhow I'm not that sure we'll see a buyout based on this statement.
(Fun fact - they are not mentioning it there as the former "Manono Lithium and Tin Project". This could indicate that funds are exclusively reserved for their Lithium resource - JMO).

What's wanting to develop the mine got to do with actually developing the mine?
Not sure I got your point correct but this sounds like apple and orange ... selling my asset and have nothing to do with its further progress or raising funds to participate with them together in developing this project is not the same, isn't it?

No matter, the journalist is on point with some pertinent analysis of the situation.

However one imagines the US team has already done their DD on the DRC interlocutors given Comminere has already been singled out as not wanted...by Kobold from memory.

Hello, I am home (sick) and have spent some time deep-diving into our investment.

Recent developments in the DRC-U.S. minerals negotiations suggest a potential catalyst for our Manono lithium project, particularly with reports of Erik Prince engaging with Congolese leadership. According to an article in Africa Intelligence (March 31, 2025), Prince, founder of Blackwater, has proposed deploying private military contractors to secure mining operations in the DRC, targeting threats like the M23 rebels in the east. This aligns with President Félix Tshisekedi’s minerals-for-security framework, currently under discussion with the Trump administration, and could significantly impact AVZ’s position.

Tshisekedi’s administration is under pressure. The failed coup attempt in May of 2024 and M23’s control over 40% of North Kivu, with key eastern territories including mineral-rich zones slipping from the government's grasp into the rebel's hands has left Tshisekedi desperate.
In response, Tshisekedi has deepened his ties with the U.S, evidenced by the release of the three American citizens involved in the coup to U.S. custody following talks with Trump’s Africa envoy, Massad Boulos. This move, alongside the cancellation of Kinshasa’s lobbying efforts in Washington, signals a strategic pivot to secure American support and Felix's own confidence in a deal being met.

Enter Erik Prince, his reported proposal is to provide security services potentially including armed personnel and logistical support, which could stabilize regions like Tanganyika Province, home to MANONO. With the U.S. eyeing critical minerals to counter China’s dominance (notably Zijin Mining’s stake in Manono’s northern section, Prince’s involvement could facilitate operational security for Western-backed projects. For AVZ, this might accelerate the reinstatement of our mining permit and enhance Manono’s appeal for a takeover.

I am happy to hear your views on this!
