Nordic Semiconductor and Arm reaffirm partnership with licensing agreement for latest low power processor designs, software platforms, and security IP

Nordic signs Arm Total Access licensing agreement, securing access to leading-edge processor and security technology for its existing and future multiprotocol, Wi-Fi, cellular IoT, and DECT NR+ products

Nordic Semiconductor today announces it has signed a multi-year Arm Total Access (ATA) license with leading semiconductor design and software platform company, Arm. The ATA license guarantees Nordic access to the widest range of ArmĀ® IP, tools, support, and training for its current and future products, including multiprotocol, Wi-Fi, cellular IoT, and DECT NR+ solutions.

The new deal extends the long-term partnership between the companies, stretching back to the launch of the Arm-powered Nordic nRF51ā„¢ Series multiprotocol Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) in 2012. Since then, Nordic has shipped billions of chips using Arm technology.

Arm is at the heart of Nordicā€™s product portfolio

Arm is a vendor of energy-efficient processor designs and software platforms and its products have enabled advanced computing in more than 270 billion chips across the globe. Nordicā€™s current nRF51ā„¢, nRF52ā„¢, nRF53ā„¢, nRF54Lā„¢, and nRF54Hā„¢ Series multiprotocol Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), and the nRF91ā„¢ Series cellular IoT and DECT NR+ Systems-in-Package (SiPs) use Arm CortexĀ®-M class microprocessors. Nordic also uses related Arm IP in its products together with design tools that make it easy to develop application software to run on Arm devices. Nordicā€™s future product roadmap includes chips that will use Arm IP.

Moving forward, ATA will give Nordic unprecedented access to a comprehensive suite of Arm technology and a robust ecosystem of software and development tools, enabling them to offer their customers greater breadth of solutions at the edge, built on Arm.
Paul Williamson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, IoT Line of Business, Arm
ā€œWe are delighted to extend our partnership with Arm through this ATA licensing agreement,ā€ says Svein-Egil Nielsen, CTO/EVP R&D with Nordic. ā€œNordic has gained its reputation as a leading vendor of low power wireless technology in large part through its relationship with Arm. Today, our product roadmap builds on this legacy by leveraging even more powerful processors and multicore solutions to run the most advanced application software and machine learning [ML] models. Through this agreement we will have unlimited access to the leading-edge processor and security technology demanded by those products.ā€

ā€œNew workload requirements for AI at the edge mean embedded devices need more and more compute capabilities,ā€ says Paul Williamson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, IoT Line of Business, Arm. ā€œToday, Nordicā€™s Arm-based solutions are being used in everything from the smart home to connected health, and industrial automation. Moving forward, ATA will give Nordic unprecedented access to a comprehensive suite of Arm technology and a robust ecosystem of software and development tools, enabling them to offer their customers greater breadth of solutions at the edge, built on Arm.ā€

Developing the next generation of IoT solutions

The agreement will enable Nordic to develop the end-to-end solutions needed to power tomorrowā€™s IoT devices in sectors such as the smart home, smart city, industrial automation, healthcare, and wearables among other key sectors. Many of these applications will demand complex software and ML models that in turn require powerful processor resources to run ā€“ without compromising battery life.

Nordicā€™s fourth generation of multiprotocol SoCs, which includes the nRF54H20, points to this future. The nRF54H20 features multiple Arm Cortex-M33 processors and state-of-the-art security. The SoC has recently proven its world-leading processing efficiency, along with superior processing performance against EEMBC ULPMarkĀ®-CoreMark benchmarks. Such performance underscores the potential of the SoC to enable innovative IoT end-products that were previously impossible.

Arm ATA provides easy access to the widest range of leading-edge and emerging Arm IP products, tools, support, and training. With this advanced access, ATA removes technological and commercial barriers by allowing access to IP at any time during the lifetime of a project, the flexibility to explore multiple iterations, and support for several different products in development at the same time.

Question for our more technically knowledgable like @Diogenese or @chapman89

I did a search on a keyword and found @Sirod69 had been looking at it some time ago (though she sadly hasn't been seen for a few months?) as this evening I found what I thought could be an interesting entry on Github regarding the open source Zephyr RTOS.

Brainchip-India lodged a Documentation Issue a couple of days ago.

Now, is Brainchip-India "our" Indian team?.....can't think of any other Brainchip in India that might be playing with RTOS (Real Time Operating Systems) for SOCs.

Anyway, what caught my eye was the issue being related to the below and in particular "Nordic" SOCs.

Is it conceivable that our team are either playing with the Nordic NRF5 series of SOCs of their own accord or potentially (& preferably) at the request of a client using one of the NRF5 series SOCs?

Or is it a non (SNN) event...pun intended.

In December 2020, BrainChip and Renesas Electronics America entered into an intellectual property (IP) license agreement, enabling Renesas to incorporate BrainChipā€™s Akidaā„¢ neuromorphic processor IP into their system-on-chip (SoC) products.

By December 2022, Renesas had progressed to taping out a chip utilizing BrainChipā€™s spiking neural network (SNN) technology, marking a significant advancement in integrating neuromorphic computing into their offerings.

In March 2023, BrainChip announced the validation of its Akida AI processor familyā€™s integration with ARMā€™s Cortex-M85 processor, a development that Renesas, as a lead developer, demonstrated at Embedded World 2023.

Additionally, in March 2023, BrainChip introduced its second-generation Akida platform, featuring advanced capabilities for edge AI applications. Renesas expressed enthusiasm about this development, indicating plans to leverage the enhanced features of the new Akida platform to support vision, perception, and predictive applications across various markets, including industrial and consumer IoT, as well as personalized healthcare.

Coming up to 2 years of having access to akida 2.

Wars will end, interest rates will drop and inflation will be in the rear view mirrorā€¦ will 2025 be the year of the BRN.

Hi Everyone,

Looks like CES 2025 is starting to get some good press, plenty of demos being promoted already.

I would guess that a number of shareholders are hoping or expecting an announcement or 3 between now and
the end of CES 2025, I personally feel, if this is the time to announce something, well then CES 2025 would be that time.

May I also say, thanks to all our forum contributors throughout the year, I have enjoyed reading as many different view
points and articles as possible, so from Perth and currently in New Zealand, I wish everyone a very happy festive season,
enjoy a few drinks, some nice food, but most of all, appreciate those around you, both young and old.

May 2025 be a fantastic year for our company, thanks to all our staff in Australia, India, France and the USA.

God Bless...............Tech (2024).

Thanks Boab. Knew about that but what concerns me is we have no Licence agreement, yet 20 cameras have been installed unless it was a trial. Prob not us but suited to this.

Well my 2 bob's worth would be at least 1 shilling each way.

The Cvedia deal is a partnership, so no licence fee, just sales.

The partnership is using "Akida neuromorphic IP", ie, it does not specify the SoC, so it could be software, and from the date it could be Akida 2/TENNs.

The user is a not-for-profit, so probably charged at mates rates, so 20 cameras would probably not raise a blip on the radar (unless you're using that Doppler one we a week or so ago).
