Sweden, home of TLGs graphite mine(s)

And Vittangi is not the only one where new mining plans are stopped by the local government. Oviken in Åre municipality and Brickagruvan in Hudiksvall are two other examples.

👉 Karin Karlsbro , a liberal EU parliamentarian, calls the attitude a double standard to say no to mines here in Sweden while being in favor of a green economy. 👈

Green Party member Pär Holmgren , who was the only Swedish party to vote no to the EU's regulation to prioritize mines with electrification metals, unexpectedly agrees with Karlsbro.

"I agree that there is a double standard. We need some mines, but there is a risk that it will become an unbridled capitalism, in order to get even more profits out of the transition," he says to SVT.
Interesting that the chief Green said..........We need some mines.

I can see his point as I fail to see why gold, iron ore or any other non battery mineral should share any special critical status like graphite, or lithium or copper as a few examples.

It's not about opening the gates to a plundering mining industry........or as he says

"in order to get even more profits out of the transition,"

But anyway.................... the way I see it is that politicians will not make any decision (in relation to the mining plan) that might be even a tiny bit divisive until they have to.

And let's face it they don't have to make any decision about over ruling the municipality until the Supreme Court dismisses the Appeals process.

So we can huff and puff in frustration as to why the Government will take it's time to decide on over riding the Vocal Locals but all this is linked to the Supreme Court.................just like project finance and offtakes are.

Yet again...............The permits are everything

I hope they can update the swedish law faster than they can apply it. Compensation sounds good and should be done properly. But please don't fight on the back of companies trying to get permits.
The announcement alone that she is open should override the main argument of the antis. We shouldn't care how long it ultimately takes, if at all. At least this government now has 28 months to investigate the issue.
Another obstacle out of the way.
And this clearly shows how important Talga's project is for the government. For me it's clear what will happen with the causa detailed plan. And the outcome of the SC decision now also seems more foreseeable. Everything points in exactly one direction.

Today is a very good day for Talga but also for us and there is hope for the climate again :) Have a good weekend!

"Ebba Busch open to new mining tax
PUBLISHED TODAY 12:06 P.M
Minister of Industry Ebba Busch (KD) is now opening the door for a new mining tax that will go from the mining companies to the municipalities.

- It could mean that the local authorities are prepared to say yes to a greater extent. The green transition is far too important, says Busch.

Many municipalities say no to opening new mines because they consider the compensation to be small sums. The EU has pushed through a regulation to become more self-sufficient in minerals that are crucial for the green transition."

Thanks Cosors

Interesting postscript to the article.

MUNICIPALITIES LACK VETO RIGHTS FOR MINES

Already today, many potential mining areas are classified as of national interest for mineral extraction. But the Swedish Environmental Code does not take climate considerations into account. The EU now wants to push member states to prioritise mines for more than 30 minerals that are crucial for the green transition.

Today, the EU uses 25 percent of the world's natural resources, but only 2-3 percent is mined. By 2030, mining will increase to 10 percent according to the EU regulation.

Among other things, it is about becoming more independent of China, which today dominates the world market
Municipalities do not currently have the right of veto for mines. Questions about the establishment are handled by the Mining Inspectorate, the Land and Environment Courts and ultimately the Government.

Now companies are doing something about the many problems like NV did. And that's one of the reasons why NV went to northern Germany with the second plant, to improve things. More housing for the employees. NV had or has big problems in Sweden. See also bin thread. This is also one of the arguments of the opponents against the Green Transition.

I will now change my posts a bit. I will post more URLs instead of extracting the articles. Those who like to read can do so. When in doubt, I always recommend DeepL as Google often makes blatant translation errors in the meaning. There is a DeepL app. Double click copy for the marked text an it's translated.
I don't want to lose even small pieces of information. But I also don't want to take the time to edit everything and put it in perspective. I am counting on you to form your own opinion.
It's getting too much for my head to fight against the wind that should actually be our tailwind.
I thought we had the same goal as them when it comes to climate and environmental protection, the Green Deal and the Green Transition. But now even these goals are moving into the almost unattainable distance as they have tightened their arguments once again. For example, no projects on land with indigenous people, no matter where. No projects where not even single living beings to find that are on red lists. No projects in own backyards etc. Now the common goals of the past are no longer achievable, together. Perhaps deliberately.
Of course I will post articles in full if they are informative.
This is just my opinion.
Of course, I will continue to put things in the right context from my point of view so that even those who don't want to or can't delve so deeply can follow.

I'm just thinking about that the Green Party wanted to end lime mining and thus cement production in Sweden (Cementa).

Talga gets neighbours opposite.
That is, provided that construction can take place at some point if none of the construction companies appeals to the city council's incorrect nomination again and again.

"Duroc Rail is Sweden's leading specialist in maintenance and service of railway wheels. The company is now starting to move offices, workshops and machines from existing premises in Svartöstan to a brand new building on Hertsöfältet at Luleå industrial park. Nordprojektering is mainly responsible for the electrical design in the new industrial premises.
Nordprojektering has been involved since the planning phase of the new premises, which should be ready by the end of 2025. Emil Lindgren, project manager for electrical design, is inspired by the task.
- It is a whole installation-heavy production with very technology-intensive equipment that must be moved and connected in a completely new building. The project is exciting and it feels good to be involved and support with our know-how from start to finish in such an interesting construction project.
Industrial projects for a green future
Within the framework of the Luleå industrial park on Svartön, a completely new business cluster is growing, bit by bit. In line with the world's rising demand for sustainably produced products, fossil-free energy and environmentally friendly transport, billions are being invested in new, green industries.
- I see with pride how our county and the entire northern part of our country are leaders in the green industrial transition. It feels extra exciting to be part of Duroc Rail's interesting relocation project to the industrial park of the future.
Long-term collaboration
Emil Lindgren also sees synergy effects in the collaboration with the railway specialist.
- We at Nordprojektering like this type of assignment, where we get to work long-term and in close collaboration with modern and competent industrial companies such as Duroc Rail. We hope to make new contacts and more opportunities to contribute with our expertise in interesting design assignments in the industry in the future."

Description of the case
The new assessment will be presented in full at the KSAU on 6 May.*

So that I don't have to search next time:
Kommunstyrelsens arbetsutskott (KSAU)
protocol, Industripark Hertsöfält
*"Ny utvärdering presenteras i sin helhet vid KSAU 6 maj."
KSAU stands for: Kommunstyrelsens Arbetsutskott (Municipal Executive Committee Working Committee)

Finally backfire against the critics in the south
Finally counterfire against the campaign from interests in the south who want to stop the big industrial investments in northern Sweden, writes Lennart Håkansson in today's column.

21 March 2024

I have been surprised for some time that no one stands up and defends the big investments in the north against the criticism from the south.

For some years now, interests in southern Sweden have published a series of reports, several of which pretend to be scientific, which question the large investments in fossil-free sponge iron, fossil-free steel and battery production that are made or planned in northern Sweden.

It is entirely in order that large investments, in which to some extent state money is involved, are questioned and debated. That is how it should be.

What has bothered me is that the counterarguments have not reached the national public.

I understand that business leaders shy away from going into public debate (Harald Mix commented on the criticism in his Summer Program). Their work is in the workshop. But there are authorities and a number of business support organizations in Norrbotten. We have a university. But no counter-offensive against actors such as the South Swedish Chamber of Commerce, the Scandinavian Policy Institute and the Institute for Business Research, and their campaign to stop investments in the north.

But now counterarguments are coming in public, from several big names.

Here in Affärer i norr, Per Molin, who had leading roles in the Swedish steel industry, and Lars Wikman, a former consultant in the steel industry, recently wrote a debate article that was a response to the criticism of the investments in the north from interests in the south. "Fossil-free steel is both possible and necessary," they wrote.

And in Sunday's Dagens Nyheter, Anders Sundström wrote a debate article with the headline: "When Norrland moves forward, the backbiters in the south are cut off". He writes about the eternal detractors in the south and that in their ignorance they highlight the "Stålverk 80 ghost".

He points out that several of the large investments are made by private, international capital and not by the Swedish state. And that state-owned LKAB, which is to invest 400 billion over just over 20 years, has delivered 100 billion to the state in the last two decades in shareholder dividends and corporate tax. In southern Sweden, people worry about not being supplied with electricity from the north, while opposition to new wind power is greatest in the south.

Wonderful reading. I'm just saying: Finally!"

Who could have guessed...

but, finally the other thing:
"Dutch companies won tenders for dredging"
bit Sweden=appeal

_______
The dredging of the fairway is a separate project from the harbour. When it comes to the expansion of the harbour itself, the municipality has not yet found anyone with an adequate offer that meets its requirements.

Today *should* be Swedish National Day, but has been delayed because the Swedes were unable to complete the paperwork in time due to a back log and then all went on holidays. Maybe next year
