Come on Sweden!
Agreed; I did a bit of research and apparently, harness racing ("the trots") in Sweden (and Scandinavia generally) is BIG business. I kind of thought "really ?!" because I did live in Europe for many years but never heard of this because it was never covered (harness vs thoroughbred).
Culturally in Europe, it is similar to the US States, whereby if something isn't available in one country, they'll go over the border to where it is or where prices are lower. (This happened a lot in the 90s with 'booze cruises', where just before Christmas or other party seasons, people would regularly drive from the UK to France (where alcohol tax was lower) to stock up on cut-price beer, cigarettes, wine etc.)
Looking outside of Scandinavia - obviously horse racing is huge in the UK - France is big and amazingly, Germany; over the past decade they have made real progress and some of the best racecourses in Europe are (including the famous Iffezhiem Racecourse and Baden Baden) as well as some world-famous races.
